I met Philip Sayce in 2003-2004 when I was in my late teens at a back yard jam fest and I was sooo annoyed at how every girl that went with me and my two guy friends forgot we existed and just melted at how perfect everything about him was from his face, his height, his bone structure, his playing, his glowing aura, and to top it all off he has a super insanely peaceful calming personality.. 😑

One of my inspirations, playing the music of one of my biggest inspirations. I've met Philip at a performance in Hamilton. He signed my grandfather's 1920s Regal resonator. He is a truly humble being and an insanely good guitarist.

Talented player. I would get tickets to see him. Not fair to compare him to SRV, though he invites the comparison. He has lightning and intensity. I certainly can’t approach what he is doing. The first thing that jumps out is his timing. Stevie had an amazing clock in his head. That is very different here. The other thing I notice is a difference in musicality. Stevie had great technical chops. But there was something extra that made you want more. Again, hats off to Philip Sayce. Impressive player.

I love his skills and like his voice, but man for me that's just too much. Too many notes and not enough melody. I know I'm getting old but when I was able to see SRV play, he really grabbed your mind with his skills, but he got your heart with melodic playing and depth and soul. And his ties to his hero's was obvious. Tight Rope and Crossfire and many more that make me fly to the top emotionally and similarly with Gary Moore, wow speed and soul and a killer vibrato, Still Got the Blues. But I wish nothing but the best for Philip. Just a 71 year old guitar players opinion. Rock on.

I mean the question i'm asking to myself is the following: What's the point? The guy is uturly skilled and fast, i'd say faster than Stevie Ray on some of his own licks (praticing it i guess make it easier) but WHAT IS THE POINT ? Stevie is gone as long as we wished otherwise, and i'm sorry to say that the music is ONLY the representation of the human being that is playing it and on another level the expression of the SOUL which is inside the flesh. On this regards i'm asking it again: What is the point? Stevie's music and playing style makes only sens while played by him and himself only ! Sorry to crush the party guys but there's not point. Look what a guy like Eric Gale is doing! His own style ! that the point of being an artist, it is to express and discover YOURSELF through your art. So my dear Philip Sayce, whith the ridiculous skills that are yours and the lovely voice of yours, BECOME YOURSELF, and bring what you have to offers to the world. When I miss Stevie I listen to his records and whatch HIS shows... And I'm too young to ever had the opportunity to witness him so i know i never will (36 youngsters). God bless every one hope you'll here my words, coming from my heart. Stevie you'll always be missed and forever in our heart.

Yeah he is a killer player. But I do see what a lot of commentators are saying. He does tend to overplay. If you think of how Stevie did it the entire song wasn’t a lead. While Phillips playing is fantastic, I’ve begun to notice when you play lead through the entire song it becomes not so musical. Stevie’s songs had one lead break. It feels like he is way way over playing. It’s just a barrage of notes flying at you or blaring at you. A half an hour of this to me would be really exhausting for my ears. I hate to say this cause he is such a nice guy. I think he’s trying to hard. Just saying if you have ever been to one of his shows his songs are all like this. It can become exhausting to the ears if every single song is like that.

Agreed. Marino may be the most underrated Hendrix disciple of them all. If the second song of this set was the only time that Phil “showed out” like he did, and put the song in the middle of a set of “song oriented” material, then it would carry a lot more weight IMO. I love everything he’s doing, don’t get me wrong, but dynamics were where SRV made his hay.

@beyondthemainstream-localbands
@beyondthemainstream-localbands 9 ай бұрын
Based on your perspective, it seems you may not have firsthand experience as a musician or performer. It's important to recognize the dedication and passion that musicians bring to their craft, regardless of their level of skill or the size of their audience. Whether playing at a local bar or a large stadium, musicians invest their time and energy into sharing their music with others, often with the hope of securing a record deal or simply for personal enjoyment. Philip Sayce, for example, has undoubtedly been influenced by artists like Stevie Ray Vaughan (SRV), but that doesn't mean he's trying to replicate SRV's style. Rather, he brings his own unique interpretation to the blues genre, showcasing his individuality and talent as both a composer and performer. Similarly, Kenny Wayne Shepherd emerged in the 1990s with a distinctive Texas blues style that may evoke comparisons to SRV, but he's carved out his own path in the music industry, separate from simply imitating his influences. It's unfair to dismiss musicians like Philip Sayce based solely on comparisons to their influences. In fact, playing at renowned venues like The Baked Potato can be a dream come true for many artists, as these venues hold legendary status within the music community. Artists like Joe Bonamassa, Steve Lukather, and Larry Carlton have all graced the stage there, solidifying its reputation as a prestigious venue. Appearances on platforms like Tiny Desk(Taylor Swift, Sting, Dua Lipa and so on) are also seen as honors for world-class musicians, providing an opportunity to showcase their talent in an intimate setting. The capacity of venues like Blue Note further underscores the significance of such performances. Ultimately, it's important to appreciate and celebrate the individuality and achievements of musicians, recognizing their contributions to the music world on their own terms.

@@buzzedalldrink9131 It's fantastic to hear that you've been playing for 30 years. I appreciate your openness, and I apologize for any misunderstandings. In the world of music, there are typically two types of players: those who perform live, whether at small local venues or festivals, and those who primarily play in private settings without much experience performing for audiences. I warmly welcome the opportunity to showcase your talents on my channel, which focuses on highlighting local bands and introducing undiscovered talent to a wider audience. Please share your performance video and profile with me, as I'm eager to see firsthand the originality of your music, and I'm confident our audience will appreciate it as well.

@@beyondthemainstream-localbands it’s not about me ,you simply don’t like my comment. What I said that Hotel you didn’t like was,get your own life ,get your own style ,be your own person . If you’re going to play in bars and play covers or pretend to be somebody else, you will always be playing in front of 20people. There’s nothing wrong with that if that’s what makes you happy make you happy. Make a statement, but this guy should be more famous than he is , thats, thats never going to happen when all you’re doing is impersonating somebody else.

He's pretty good but he's not Stevie Ray Vaughan

Sounds like a typical shredder. Not much soul.

I've been wondering what the definition of "soul" is in the music. I kind of understand what you're trying to say but not sure.. exactly.
