What a gift Yancey has been to mankind. Thoughtful and deep yet accessible and interesting.

Oh please. Gift to mankind? He's just a delusional clown peddling the same old evangelical crap. It's childish nonsense from start to finish. He's an insult to the intelligence of anybody with a particle of self-respect. He keeps asking the same questions about a non-existent god. He might as well be asking "Where are the magic unicorns when it hurts?" It's comically asinine nonsense.

I am so excited to see Nicky gumbel introducing Philip yancey. I have been following Nicky for several years now and have always found him inspiring and now his introducing Philip yancey made me hugely interested in what Philip was saying and I wasn’t disappointed- it was so elevating and thought provoking and of course gave a lot of answers to questions I am constantly battling with myself. Thank you both so much for giving of yourselves both in action and in word. I thoroughly enjoyed your wonderful talk Philip and can’t wait to order some of your books. As an afterthought I’m not of your persuasion as I’m a Roman Catholic- a very committed one but did the Alpha course in Ireland several years ago and can honestly say it was responsible for bringing me back to God after my husband died. I fell out with God for a good while but now Thank God I’m back with him and can feel happy again. Also I followed up on the Alpha Course with “The Bible in one Year”. It is so great to have such talks as these to listen to. Many thanks and keep up the good work

The opioid of the masses on full display. You fell out with your god did you? Did he send you a telepathic message? If you want to feel good let me suggest a trip to a desert during a moonless night, and gaze up at our galaxy and understand there are two trillion such galaxies with hundreds of billions of solar systems each, and enough scientific knowledge to appreciated it. You don't need this made-up childish nonsense from some carnival barking grifter to fulfill yourself.

Where is Jesus when it hurts, . . . . . . . Hebrews 12:2 fixing our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of faith, who for the joy set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

What nonsense - there is no meaning in most suffering, especially when it comes to terminal illnesses in small children. What point exactly is God trying to make here and couldn't an almighty, all-loving God have figured out a better way to accomplish whatever the purpose of suffering was suppose to be for? God's ways are cruel and unfair and there are no limits to what unspeakable cruelty he will allow to the most innocent and vulnerable just to make his point. And then at the end of the day he has the gall to demand to be praised for his inaction. Just remember a lot of these people who get the nice smooth ride in life will still end up in heaven just like the ones who God put through Hell so to speak. This means God plays favorites so let that sink in.

God does not send suffering any more then the Sun sends the clouds or rain. The human experience is tough & can be cruel. God loves us, helps & heals us, and not always that we expect. I myself have a serious challenge but I know that God is here with me through it all. Not all Christians have the same perception or understanding of this..

@@denisezimmernrealtorwithco6108 So when Christ said the girl with the blood issue, suffered So that God would be GLORIFIED. Help me on this. An innocent person suffered, basically tortured so that God would be GLORIFIED. The same God that made the Sun and other Planets needed a helpless, tiny creature to suffer pain, and endless humiliation for years to be GLORIFIED. Pls explain

@@mao4324 God is not glorified when bad things happen , or people die or suffer sickness and suffering. God is glorified in everything reaching full fulfillment of Life in it's highest potential. Christ died a human death so He could rise from the dead and live forever and ever. It was human pride and envy , treachery and cowardice, greed and perjury ,weakness and bigotry that united to make Christ suffer crucifixion. God allowed his own creation to torture his innocent son to prove the full extent of a love beyond all telling !

@@peterj6740 search Glory or Glorified in the scripture and more than often you will find someone having suffered of no fault of their own being healed for the glory of God. Jesus said, “This sickness will not end in death. No, it is for God’s glory". This one was for Lazerus and many others I have come across. It also states that the reason many suffered and were healed by Christ was so that the works of God may be DISPLAYED in their life: girl with blood issue, so many. Let's no get into the fact we were born onto sin. You can claim it's my fault then the bible contradicts that out of Christ's own mouth " it is not due to his sin or his parents sin" after being BORN BLIND.
