Yes a family in my city Wichita just had their father/husband detained and sent to Oklahoma. He overstayed a visa. But he provides for his wife’s kids, and the months old baby they have together. He paid all the bills, attends the kids events, he’s a huge part of their life. And she needs him to pay the rent and bills, as he had been doing. Now they’re at risk of becoming homeless. And I just got out of being homeless in this city, it’s horrible. They have a go fund me, but those kids need their dad. The mother needs his support to also watch the kids when she works. Their whole life has just been completely messed up. I pray for all these families. The man has been here 17 years and is not a criminal. He had a self defense case in the past that was dropped. That’s why they had his name.

I’m an elementary school teacher in a title 1 school in a southwestern state. We just had a meeting this morning about what to do when (not if) ICE comes for our kids, what to do if families are detained during the school day, and new security measures to make sure ICE isn’t allowed in without a proper warrant. It should be the other way around. Remove things like IP law, companies being able to buy other companies, and investing for non-startups and you solve most of the problem. It's so utterly frustrating that people will 100 percent ignore the detainment of Native Americans, and the legal argument that Native Americans aren't Americans to defend his birthright executive order. It's a clear indicator of white nationalism, and brings up the question, what do we do with Native Americans if they are deemed to no longer be citizens? At best Native Americans get deported to countries and lands that they have no ties in, don't speak the native language, and have nothing to build a life with, and at worst the Trump administration proves that yes, Elon was showing his true colors.

As a Dad with more jobs than hours in the week, since the 20th, I’ve made a much more intentional effort to sit with my daughter more. I turned a dad/daughter day trip to see grandma into an overnight trip. I have always been intentional with her, but she’s my hope. I’m a therapist and most of my clients are in 100% panic mode about the world. I am in disbelief every day. But when my daughter (who is sick today) says, Dad I need snuggles, my calendar was wiped to spend 4 hours snuggling on the couch (and I caught whatever she has but worth it). I am so lucky to have her and my wife who are my safe haven from the hectic in the world while I toil away to make ends meet and allow her to not have the fear and insecurity at home that I grew up with.

Health care worker here in particular working with elderly. I can not tell you how many of them has stressed to me, knowing I was a dad, to spend as much time possible with my kids and that they are only young once and when they grow up they won't always be around so take the time now. I heard them say this to me countless times. Not just one person but all of them. I really took this to heart. I sacrificed so many things for myself like going with friends places or nights out to spend it with my kids. My kids mom, we split and she had the opposite mindset. She is a great mom and we years later really get along I even went to her wedding but she always felt like you are only young once so explore the world and there is always time later to adventure with your kids. She has done lots with the kids but at the same time I have had way way more time with them as my focus was 100% them. I did not date for like 5 years after we broke up because they were so young and I didn't want to miss time with them. I am not trying to put my ex down she is a really good mom and very involved with the kids but I for sure have had like a 70/30 time share in my favor and I hope she doesn't one day regret not putting the kids a bit more first. I too snuggle with my kids and all my kids even the older teenagers who have to be cool they all say to me "I love you dad" or send me random text messages "I love you dad". The feeling I experience seeing those texts are indescribable and I think you will get that same experience as you too seem like a good dad.

Something i came up with when she was an infant and I'd be dropping her off at 7 am knowing full well that walk into daycare was the only time with her that day. Thanks for the encouragement.
