Just discovered this singer, Philippe Jaroussky, all I can say is WOW! Never ever heard a voice so pure in that range with great clarity. Now I guess I have to go out and get some of his stuff, God! when am I going to stop adding to my already vast collection? Thats the trouble when you discover someone so great and rare as this, you just got to have them in your collection! If an angel came to earth he would sing like this. Sarah Mclachlan is also another angel, 2 voices of heaven!

Actually, one can use head voice and falsetto at the same time. It is generally referred to as a mixed voice or voix mixte. It is becoming a heavily used teaching method for many countertenors being trained nowadays. The head (or chest -- as some like to refer to it, in terms of female descriptions) is taken up until a little bit before middle C, then a mix is usually taken up about an octave or so more with "reinforced" falsetto accentuating the top of the voice.
@CountertenorJ17 жыл бұрын
The goal is for it to sound like a fluid transition between the falsetto sound to the mixed sound to the head/chest voice. Often, as the transition towards the "natural" fach approaches the sound has to be lightened and brightened. Bejun Mehta is a good example of a nice smooth transition, and his mixed voice at the lower registers is amazing. Check him out singing Mozart on here.

I think the difference between falsetto and full voice is the amount of body contact on the vocal folds, ie falsetto only uses the upper edge which is thin ,loud and beyond colour or tone, full contact allows colour, tone and richness of voice. Where voices have not broken fully in male voices it allows the singer to reach the upper notes with tone and control (full body contact of the vocal folds), as with Jaroussky. That has been my understanding. (500 c)

His coloratura is spectacular in that it's so legato, unlike most other coloaratura greats such as Bartoli and Genaux. Makes me think twice about it. I always prefered well-articulated aspirated executions, but his is very special, with apparently an excellent breath control.
@HerrWarja13 жыл бұрын
@2batswana The voice of Fairnelli was made by the soprano Ewa Malas Godlewska and the countertenor Derek Lee. They mixed there voices in a computer to "re-create" a castratovoice. The male singer Derek Lee have tescticals.

@x0x0wnx0x You're right he is not a castrato! The piece he is singing is the story of a Castrato. Just like an actor in a movie playing a murderer is not ACTUALLY a murderer! So he is simply acting the role of a castrato, so to speak. Anyway, hope that clears it up for everyone.

Yeah he's just a counter-tenor not a castrato the last one of those died in 1922 if I remember correctly though there is Radu Marian whose voice never changed due to a hormonal disorder he's had since birth. Radu's voice is that of a castrato which sounds exactly like a little boy.

am not jumping into conclusions dearie. i am simply stating a fact. castration has been banned for over a century now. men have themselves castrated not because they want to retain their high voice; they do it for the purpose of becoming women. and philippe could not have castrated himself. he would have gone to a surgeon for the procedure :-)
@oberon0616 жыл бұрын
have you personally asked every single castrated man in the world why he castrated himself? i thought not. and btw, not all guys who castrate themselfs because they want to become a woman. there are people called eunuch.
@oberon0616 жыл бұрын
well originally thats what happened. they castrated boys before puberty so that their voices would be change and therefore remain high like a womans. but i think this guy just has a really really high voice. maybe he aint castrated. somethin like that anyway
@jemdyar1716 жыл бұрын
to become a countertenor is not the same as castrato . . . it requires immense amounts of training and vocal exercises as a man enters puberty, and throughout. Today's countertenors should be regarded as just as manly as any other man, they have all their body parts intact.
@CatholicBoy195716 жыл бұрын
So are you saying, it's the story of a castrato, but not performed by a castrato? He should , perhaps, give everyone a slight hint, and grow some small sideburns, or a small moustache. That would kill a few comments, perhaps.
16 жыл бұрын
he's obviosly not a castrato.... i mean... who in this time would cut their child testicules just for hime to be a singer??? i think it'd be consider a crime... and it's actually not necessry because as well as the instruments evolve, so does the human voice, so he's just the bearer of a butiful voice and a very accurate technic, so that's all technic and good taste

YOU SHOULD KNOW... IF YOU KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT WATERN MUSIC, THAT THE HIGH PITCHES ARE CONSIDERED MORE BEAUTIFUL AND MORE EXPRESSIVE THAN LOWER ONES... HE'S NOT SINGING LIKE A WOMAN, HE SINGS LIKE A MAN IN A HIGH PITCH, IT HAPPENS IN POP MUSIC AND ROCK MUSIC TOO, AND NOBODY SAYS THAT THEY SING LIKE GIRLS it's just a matter of taste... of good taste i mean

actually is quite insulting to say the word falsetto, a countertenor and a falsettista r not the same thing, a countertenor voice is as richer as any female singer and full of harmonics if the technique is good u should learn more about music specially about countertenors before post this kind of comments, im a countertenor and as i say before the fact that u say that countertenor sings with falsetto is stupid and insulting
@pianoenthusiast1116 жыл бұрын
i am not sure which of us hwsp1 is refering to, but i would concur that i am on the same planet as him, although this style of so called music is both tragic in its origin, and simply farcical in its continuation. a man singing like a woman is at best something to ridicule, and at worse a shameful embarrassment for the poor character whose voice it is! how people make a living from this outside a comedy routine amazes me to be honest!
@TheWisdomer11 жыл бұрын
His singing is great but still too flat after the listening to Maniaci's performing.

poor sod! why would any man unfortunate enough to have a woman's singing voice want to actually put their face up for public ridicule?? and although i detest italian opera more than anyone else i know, this has to have lunacy and farciality added to it!
