Please correct your description, it is not a "Muslim" folk dance but rather a pre-Islamic "Southern Philippine" traditional folk dance of the Maranao tribe. Thanks and wonderful rendition!

A dancer in this ensemble told me it was Muslim, but your correction makes more sense because it doesn't have to do with Arabic dances. Thank you very much for your comment!

Actualy it a muslim dance based on my reserch king and queens are from the muslim

+TDS Vlogs In these cases, religion and culture have no direct relationship. They may have strong influences but to be called a dance based on religion is simply inaccurate. We don't call the Spanish-influenced traditional Philippine dances in Luzon and Visayas (ex. Cariñosa, Tinikling, Maglalatik, etc.) Christian dances just because those groups were Christians; we refer to them as post-Colonial Spanish-influenced dances (Maria Clara Suite, Barrio Suite, etc.). Another reason why we refrain from calling this dance a "Muslim dance" is because it is also not representative of the Islamic religion as a whole (i.e. You don't see these dances performed in other places of strong Islamic influence). You can say the same of other Muslim-influenced dances around the world; we don't call Egyptian dances Muslim dances and we don't call Arabic dances Muslim dances. These dances are respective of their cultural and ethnic groups. Therefore, this video features a dance of the Southern Philippines

It is actually Pre-Islamic dance of Maranao tribe. It IS part of our culture, Meranao.

Not really.. we do have different drumbeats and usually use gongs for our traditional dances..😀
