Went smelt fishing in the finger lakes in New York when I was in high school. We could get 8 quarts each. You use a wire net on the end of a pole about 5 foot long. Just about the same size as a basketball net. But, with the bottom closed in with the same type of wire. We got back to my friends house around.1:00 am and we're up all night cleaning them. Snip the heads off then snip up the belly. Thank GOD the sink had a garbage disposal. That sure helped keep things moving. We worked all night cleaning them and in the morning the mother came out to relieve us. Just about noon when we got up. We started cooking them. Egg wash then flower in hot oil. You use hip waders and a Colman lantern to fish with. All in the middle of the night. I guess we had about a lawn trash bag full of them. The females would have the row (not sure of the spelling) eggs that are orange in color and the males would have some kind of white stuff. Not sure what that was. lol Thanks for bringing back a great memory. I voted on the 31st of October. Now ten minutes to three am on the 5th. It's the last day for voting. Until next time, be safe and stay inside during the storms.

Nothing like the Finger Lakes in the fall. Such a beautiful area. We lived in northern PA. We're retired in Batangas now.

@dann547 I'm now in Delaware and hoping to get to the Philippines in 2025. It's just that I'm in panic mode about mandates. Shots, masks. I was hoping to long term invest in the Philippines. But, all of the visa renewal ever 30 or 60 days I suppose I'll keep my investments here in the states.

Thanks for sharing your "smelt' experience Joe. I have eaten a few and read about it but never involved in the process.

Good video Rod. I remember right after I moved from Negros tropical storm Sendong came through and was pretty devastating. You are right it doesn't have to be a typhoon, you just have to catch the worst of it. Sendong made beaches where there were non and wiped out beaches that already were scouring them down to rock. I'm told that a subsequent storm reversed the process. Imagine getting a beach lot and building and a storm comes through and your beach is gone overnight? Take care.

Good points Robert. That beach front property is tempting but their are additional risks as well.

They call it 'tuna' in the Philippines but it is really 'bonito'. They are similar looking but taste very different. Be careful buying tuna in the Philippines. Interesting video, Rod...thanks for sharing...Jim

Interesting. Thanks Jim. There have been tests on supermarket and restaurant fish in the USA, DNA tests, and much of it is not what it is labeled as.

When we built the causeway for the Cebu Cordova bridge, reclaimed from the sea, some people came there and squatted saying it was their ancestral land and was theirs. The police came and told them this isn't land but reclaimed and moved them on. Some people will try it on with the hope of getting some sort of handout.

LOL! I might try that.

My Dad brought home thousands of smelt from Northern Michigan each year and my sister and I had to clean them 🤢. They were tasty though 😊

The smelt I had in Minnesota were quite small at a bar but an interesting snack.

He will never be found or seen again. They are just putting out bs to pacify people because it was a foreigner. Nothing will be done it's all lies there. If it was a Filipino they would be crucifying the Foreigner that kidnapped a Filipino. Thanks for the updates Rod. Cheers!

The rights of land it's like China already in the Philippines 😂

They are under Spanish law with compulsory heirs as I understand it so all land gets divided in a probate. There may be half a dozen probates needed to work out all the ownership and hundreds of owners.
