@@KhiMm30 Three quick years of brutal occupation of the Japanese Army didn't make a significant amount of influence in Filipinos. We were occupied by the Japanese just as Indonesia, Malaysia, Burma, Hong Kong, and Vietnam was. The most profound influence is from Spain mostly in our religion, habits, festivals and customs. After that, the Americans, first enforcing the American system of education, and during the age of the media explosion from newspapers (in English), radio, music, movies and television. The major Chinese influence is clearly seen in our food from the lumpias and the pancit. We have more Chinese blood than Spanish nor any other due to the centuries of the Chinese being in the archipelago centuries before Spain came.

That is the best way to describe our culture. It is a mixture of every other country’s influence. Aside that the country’s history is all about getting colonized, the American Influence played a big role on the Economy and the English language. In every family in the Philippines there is always at least 1 member of the family who is at overseas, working in another country and they bring back that country’s culture to the Philippines. I see Cali Vibes, Las Vegas vibes, Dubai Vibes, Singapore Vibes, Italy Vibes in Manila from Vlogs.

Oh if you like aubergine, you have to try "tortang talong." It's quite a common dish in the Philippines. Talong is the Filipino word for aubergine aka eggplant. And torta can mean different things depending on the location, but it commonly refers to a type of omelette dish. While you're in Tagaytay, I wish you got to try bulalo, which is a beef soup dish with bone marrow, that's famous there.

Just as a cool FYI, in case you were not aware already. The lake you were overlooking is Taal Lake. In the middle of the lake is Taal Volcano, which is the worlds smallest volcano. The crater of the volcano holds a small lake. So, it is the only place on earth where there is a lake, inside an island (taal volcano), which is in a lake (taal lake), which is on an island (Luzon). Also, thank for the link to airBnB.

@@2Passports1Dream The idea for putting grated cheese in a lot of Filipino sticky-rice items is similar to that one where they add salt to caramel. Salt helps enhance the sweetness and flavor of desserts, which is why you'll find recipes of cakes and sweet pastries that will often need "a pinch of salt". These Filipino desserts and snacks are somewhat unique though, mainly because a lot of them straddle that sweet vs. savory border -- having a saltier profile than most western desserts. You'll even find some variants of bibingka with slices of salted egg. Foodies visiting the Philippines are often fascinated by these, and I believe some visiting chefs from abroad are even incorporating some of these concepts in their menu back home.

Congratulations to reaching 100k subscribers!🎉😊 Adriana, may i suggest “ensaladang talong” eggplant salad. roasted aubergine mixed with onions, tomatoes and a light dressing of vinegar, fish sauce, sugar and kalamansi (local lime) Hope you’ll like it.

If you like aubergine, or ‘talong’ in Tagalog, you should try the ‘ensalada’ there in Balay Dako. ‘Ensalada’ is a salad made of talong, tomatoes, onion, mangoes, and sometimes, bagoong or salted egg. It goes well with pork belly aka liempo but can also be enjoyed by itself.
