Dear Filipinos, there is no shame in this defeat. This Serbian team has won U18 Eurobasket without a sweat and lost to USA by 92-88 just a few days prior to this tournament. Most of the players present here have senior experience. Also note that Alen Smailagić, drafted by Golden State is available but not playing here. That being said, I can see talent on your squad, but I don't see any plays being called. This kind of wild basketball takes you nowhere. Yes, you may have some results in Asia, but that's just a mist. You can do better. There is no shame in getting knowledge from European coaches and applying it or just sending the most talented players to Europe. You should also abandon god-awful NCAA system that slows development down. Guys should play senior basketball way earlier than that. I wish you well and I can't wait our matchup at the World Cup in China!

Yes I agree. You can see the talent from the Filipinos. Gilas was killed by how Europeans moved the ball. Also they needed more pick and roll. Still no shame. They only practiced a month before the tournament. Unlike the Europeans, they were training months and months before this tournament.

I agree. The coach didn’t have a good playbook. Mostly one on ones and self strategy. And the main factor they played lazy and un inspired was because they lost their other main man, 6-10 AJ EDU to an ACL INJURY after playing only two minutes in their first game against Greece.

Dušan Ristić was arguably the most talented center in Europe. He decided to go to Arizona but his development stagnated. Now he is out of rotation and bench warmer on Red Star.

RONALD LEE CASTANEDA yeah i agree, European basketball and Ph basketball is really different like the offense, ph basketball we rely on isolation plays we do plays but we just go through the motion and then we do isos to bail out. Admu right now is at the top of collegiate basketball because their style of play is like european basketball plus some of their players that are athletic. Iso ball can be very effective in the ph aswell but still its easy to guard thats why when we get into the big leagues like fiba we have a hard time defending cause everyone in the other team is moving.

you can see how systematic the serbian coach is...in the first few minutes of the game the batang gilas was able to match but then the serbian coach made the adjustments and it was smooth sailing for them from then on...this is were we are lagging, a coach who knows how to adjust the system being used by the other team...we really need a foreign coach at this stage so our local coach can learn and later on be at the helm of this very important tournaments...

his adjustments were also simple and straightforward. notice how different the structure of possessions between the two teams are. serbian PG brings up the ball without doing anything fancy, while the other 4 are already moving into position of whatever the play in that possession is. theres no guard pausing at the perimeter after bringing up the ball because he hasnt called a play yet and the other 4 are still just getting into position. theres a lot of time wasted by PH when they do that stuff

The Philippines are still a young team when it comes to international completions outside asia, as you can see 1:body built wise this europian under 19 are already developed for competion, so the conditioning methods should emphasize on that, as you can see the comparison, euro players are agile , tall and very slim players while philippines are still heavy and slower than them. 2- Point guards should be developed,..as I can see they are still afraid to take charge,,parang larong barangay pa din looking at opponets foot to make your own move,..instead of looking at team mates or space to make plays,..Playmakers should open up the inside for big players and consistently fire outside shots,..to have a triple threat..3= defense is a suspect,..side defense is very poor,..outside defenders feels like they didnt know what they are doing kaya napapasukan,..But still I know they will improve,..still young I hope they will not just conquer asia but as well as the rest of the world, Kai Sotto should be given good plays,.. best center in Asia,..go Phillipines!!!

Look how lousy they move, the guards are just standing in their areas while their fellow forwards are battling for defensive rebound. Just look on how they play the game. even the NBA is now more fast-paced and euro movement-based tbh. just look at the skillset and pace that were highlighted in the last NBA finals. screens and more screens, lots of movement, outside shooting, quick zip passes to diffuse defensive pressure, mostly positionless offense. teams that still stick to old NBA style and cant adapt wont get near a ring

Too many 1 on 1 plays, predicted dribble drive offense, NOT GONNA WORK!!! If you play against European and American teams it will be a disaster. Even though you have a lot of preparation but style of plays are the same and not right it won't work. Look at Korea they already adapt the European system of plays. And now they're already consistent on there offense and also being one of the powerhouses in Asian basketball. Gilas Squad must adapt European style not US style. Not effective anymore
