Number is not really important. Real strength is the personnel/expertise. How much and strong the weapon itself, it cannot compared with/or buy peace (avoiding war). Many things can be learn from Malaysia. One of the example is how diplomatic, expert and professional Malaysia has achieve in its history of defence. example, during the Lahad Datu attack 2013 (sulu terrorists attack), black hawk down mogadishu, insurgency malaya, malaysia-indonesia confrontation, and independence of malaya and many more history. That's why Malaysia is different and cannot be compared in general comparison with any country.. In other aspect, different countries have their own different view, scope and needs of defence assets that suitable for their geography, climate, type of land, type of threats, budget, etc. For example, the philipine is an island country which surrounded with islands and this means philipine suitable needs are ships, towed cannon and helicopter to make easy to mobilise army, equipment and patroling compared to tanks and armored fighting vehicles meanwhile malaysia more focuses for tanks and armoured vehicle.

It's depends on your Armed Forces General long term strategies. Those military assets depends on the strategies & tactics. Less assets doesn't meant weak. The most important is the resilience of people in those countries to resist any incoming attacks. But & however in my opinion if Philippines, Indonesia & Malaysia make a alliances at economy and military it will be the greatest and powerful alliances in Asia. And of course US , Japan, China etc will not allow this alliances to happen. Cheers.

Well, what's the point of having a lot of soldier if you have very few military equipment including the time to mobilization on each island and don't forget that bridge is a good option but there's isn't a lot of bridge that is connected to all of the island and don't forget about the Cost and Transport vehicle. Also most of the military are paramilitary but is not formally part of a country's armed forces . Just like other countries that is most of their military are paramilitary.

@@AquaWhiteZ well, for first there's no ideal way to know because Vietname is a forest country while Philippines is a country made off with a lot of island. Vietname have a more access way to ambush or flank the American force and it's more easy to be supplied by their communist Allie china and some access on laos. While Philippines is made off with hundreds of island and it will be a hard time to deploy troops on one island back to another. And yes I know Philippines is a country with a lot of forest but because Philippines is a island country with water around it. Naval ship have a more easy way to bombard the island and cutting off supplies chain but this is only my opinion so don't take it seriously

Note: "light tank" The Philippines tanks are all Light tanks, none of them can sustain 1 hit from a MBT, So in reality, the 25 new "tanks" can be destroyed by autocannon fire and that's not even comparing the Malaysian MBT with a 125mm L/46 main gun.

@@nathaniel7121 Remember, that's a MUTAUL DEFENSE TREATY. If the Philippines attacked first, that Defense treaty won't and cannot be activated. Also remember that Britain also has a Mutual defense treaty with Malaysia, along with the Five powers agreement making the US less likely to directly support Philippines, It will be more likely that Philippines gets it's ass kicked by Malaysia while Britain and America won't help either side with their militaries but will start negotiating for us.
