Philipp Weber is Sustainability Officer at EMBO and co-founder of Green Labs Austria. He discusses how EMBO and various international funding organizations are increasingly acknowledging their significant role in advancing more sustainable research practices. In May 2024, EMBO hosted a multi-stakeholder workshop that brought together funders, representatives from research institutes, tool developers, and grassroots initiatives from across Europe to collaborate on environmental strategies. The outcome of this workshop is the Heidelberg Agreement on Environmental Sustainability in Research Funding.
