Strange... I have the Fidelio X2HR (not the X2 manufactured by Gibson with problems of QC), a Sennheiser HD 598, an AKG K242 HD, a Beyerdynamic DT 770 Pro & DT 990 Pro and the Hifiman HE4XX... The Fidelio is the best for me. The one that gives me the most chills. Precision, soundstage, incredible stereo, warm sound without exaggeration, very deep bass, beautiful (but not as exaggerated as on the DT 770 Pro), etc. I've never had so much fun with another headphones. The Hifiman is probably more neutral (better for the mix) and very very good but the one that surprises me the most is the Philips.
@vitalieBu2 жыл бұрын
I just got a pair of X2HR.... unfortunately I don't have anything to compare them against.... but also can't really say that I'm blown away or really impressed.... You mentioned that you have dt770 and dt990 .... I was considering these models against x2hr or even sennheiser hd560s ... what do you think about these?
@ericouicestmoimeme2 жыл бұрын
@@vitalieBu The 770s are very good for my taste. They are one of my favorites. They have been a reference for a long time. But these are closed headphones. They are very close to the Fidelio X2HR in my opinion. The X2HR has a fuller, wider soundstage, and incredible low frequencies for open headphones (I've never heard that). I spent hours comparing them. The DT770s have even more punchy low frequencies but almost too much to be real. This is typical of closed headphones. It's very nice but it seems to me that the low frequencies of the X2HR are more realistic. Allow yourself time to fully test the Fidelio. The first few hours, I almost sent him back! I preferred the DT770. Then it maybe broke free, I got used to it in a few hours, found its strengths and today it is my favorite headphones. In front of the DT770 and far ahead of the 990, the Sennheiser HD598, an AKG K242 HD ... I even tried a Hifiman (planar). I sent it back a week later! I also had the DT990. I sold it after six months. Although very nice, it transformed all of my songs. He colored the sound in an exaggerated way. Too much treble. I don't know how to properly explain this in English. Then be careful, they are in 250 ohms. They need a lot of material behind to feed them properly. Maybe you should order DT770s and try them out, compare them? And, then, send back the one you like the least?

Hey it's all subjective. I've compared these to HD600s and I personally find these way more fun and the sound stage impresses me much more. I have a small head so the strap was almost too loose for me but after a few days they became the most comfortable headphones I've ever tried and you can pry them from my cold dead ears. I also compared them to the M560s (after burn in) and was not impressed although I might need a more beefy amp for those. I was happy to go back to the warm embrace of my X2s for now. Have you tried X2HR? Recently I got one and don't hear any issues with bass distortion or muted vocals. The highs are bright but they don't reach beyer's piercing territory. Looks like your pair was from time when there had been issues with quality control. They're made by different company these days. Still... I don't find them great for gaming since these don't have great positioning accuracy. Sennheiser's HD599 are much better in this department. Still I do enjoy X2HR at listening to most music genres. I feel like X2's are taking similar approach of relaxed easy laid back music enjoinment as Sony's Z1R at the fraction of their price.

The X2 was highly praised by innerfidility ( made it to hall of fame after analyzing the heck out of them) and Zeos Pantera (two guys who know a thing or two about headphones) and that's why I got them. I was not disappointed but rather wow'ed by them. They were described as fun headphones and they truly are. Philips nailed it by tuning them based on experts hearing rather than target frequency response and that's why they sound so good with a frequency curve looking the way it is. They are also excellent for gaming due to their amazing sound stage. comfortable, both in wearing and listening and built like a tank. Personally, I would highly recommend the X2 based on months of using them as daily drivers for music, movies and gaming. At the end, reviews are subjective and other opinions need to be factored in for those who want a good headphone for $300. BTW, your last three reviews has covered three of my headphones, the M1060, Argon and X2. If your review the Audio Technica M50x next then you will freak me out.
@mishalharbi7777 жыл бұрын
Talking about different opinions, I totally agree with you that the M1060 could be an end game and an amazing headphone for $300. Verum Sonus, on the other hand, described them as "rather mediocre headphones". The subjectivity and personal taste when it comes to headphones is just confusing for those who relay on reviews to find a good headphone to enjoy. my advice, to viewers, sample reviews and roughly average ratings with more weight given to experienced reviewers. it will help reducing the pressure of making up your mind.
@ritwik07 жыл бұрын
If this Zeo Pantera is the same guy from Z-reviews then I am sorry to say he is the worst reviewer I have ever seen. And I don't know how knowledgeable that person is coz he never talks much about intricacies of sound. Some of his fans told me he makes fun of audiophiles for writing about those 'intricacies'. I am not an audiophile but I do own quite a bit of audiophile products and if you don't have the knowledge of the technicalities you certainly are not fit for making an audio channel. But nowadays everyone with money to spend on gear proclaim himself to be an audiophile and starts his own channel/website. That's what I think about Z-reviews. In comparison, DMS3 you are doing a 'better' job. Signing off.
@heavyharmonies7 жыл бұрын
Slagging on competing reviewers is low class. Just as going onto Z's channel and talking shit about DMS3 would be uncool. Different reviewers have different styles, different focuses, and different targets.
@mishalharbi7777 жыл бұрын
If you read my post carefully you would realize that I am not faulting the opinions of the reviewers but addressing the elephant in the room, the subjectivity of those opinions. You see, reviewers are giving a recommendation of a product to their viewers and many of those viewers are trying to make a decision on where to invest their money when it comes to headphones/amps/dacs etc. What the viewers don't realize is, as you mentioned, it all boils down to the reviewer style, focus and targets which is generally unknown to the viewers (what is reviewer favorite genre of music for example ? is he bass head ? ears sensitive to bright cans? anal about neutrality ?). Viewers confusing personal preferences with a general verdict/stamp of approval of a product may lead some to buy things that may not work for their taste or miss on things that can be totally matching theirs. It is an intelligent discussion that I am sure DMS3 appreciate and invite so please let's not go to what you mentioned in your comments.

He is often very entertaining, but often I am not sure how to digest his reviews... He absolutely hated Shure SRH1540 which I love and pretty much everyone's praises... According to him they were boring which in my opinion is absolutely not the case. Innerfidelity has them on the Wall of Fame... At the same time Z also absolutely hated Audio Technica M50x and I agree with him a 100% and everyone loves them... This is all very personal and depends on your preferences... He claims that all "good" DAC devices should sound the same in the category above a $100... In theory I would think he has a point, but in reality that is not the case... DACs sound differently. I guess it all depends who you trust and your ability to dissect the bullshit. Personally I was absolutely flabbergasted by Schiit's Fulla 2 reviews across the board including Z, DMS3 and the bunch of others. I was very disappointed in the Fulla 2 and returned the device, but everyone is positive about it. Either no one wants to burn the bridges and to be honest about it or everyone hears things differently. So I guess you gotta to consider entertainment value with reviewers like Z and make sure your likes correlate with with tastes of reviewers you trust. Which is kinds of a black hole... Everyone loves Senns HD650 and you think 'This guy really knows what he is talking about!' and then the same reviewer praises something which is a total garbage... Just compare DMS3 reviews of both Philips headphones he did with Z reviews of the same items. Without ever listening to Philips my common sense tells me that a cans that can be had for $55 brand new can not be that great... Then there is bunch of people who claim that they are amazing audiophile quality...

I have tried other headphones like HD600s and I agree that the X2s sound coloured and not as neutral compared to them but it's not to the point of having a V-shaped signature and also saying that its not hi-fi is also quite misleading because the definition of hi-fi is different for everyone. Maybe it is just what I think about the X2s. Aside from that, I really like how you review headphones. Your presentation style is very addicting and I will definetely be watching more of your videos.

I have used these daily for about 6 years now. I think his criticism on them is spot on, but these aspects of the headphone didn't really detract from the enjoyment I got out of them, this could also very well be influenced by the types of music we listen to (I very rarely listen to music with vocals or electronic music). As a side note, the build construction wasn't as good as it seemed at first, a screw got loose (impossible to screw in without disassembly) and caused the headband to break I think. The earpads broke a couple years ago. I do take very good care of my things but the daily use was too much for them.

I bought the X2, and then I returned it. I don't know if Philips has some sort of QC issue, but I was not impressed. I agree with most of DMS description of the sound quality of the X2, especially the recessed mids, which sound very veiled and vocals are distant taking a back seat. Also not a very detailed or resolving headphone and very warm signature overall. This is coming from someone who owns both the SHP 9500 and 58X Jubilees (58X is my daily driver). This is just my 2 cents, because I hear people even in this comment section who absolutely love the X2's and I am wondering if we are hearing the same thing or maybe the drivers in the X2 have some QC issues with some coming out phenomenal or bad. Anyone looking into the X2 should keep this in mind as it seems to be a very polarizing headphone which leaves me feeling the X2 has a QC issue.

I own a pair of the cheapest Philips full cans: SHP2000s. After looking at some of the teardowns of X1 and X2, I can say: Philips utilized same design principles on both products. Both are open back, angled drivers. Both have driver mid domes blocked by a physical plate towards the ears, both bleed through rear sound via fabric coated slit. Only difference being: SPH2000 uses 40mm drivers, X1/X2 uses 50mm drivers. I concour the fidelity is not that great, but the overall performance is. Philips has made a deliberate choice on how to present the audio: as pedestrian as possible. Its designed exactly to those people who want to have a well OVERALL performer, be in games, movies or regular music. In the defense of these cans: the sound stage aka triangulation is great due to angled drivers. This suits movies and gaming, where the mix is filled with V or U (tometo-tomato) shaped sound effects. And when music is concerned, they perform just enough above the cheap ones to justify the cost, but also gets the sweetspot on low quality MP3 tracks.

To put into context mine are Gibson made, not glued on pads, around 2 years old (box says just X2 not X2HR) I've had senns 580, 600, 650, 6xx, AKG all of the 7 series, plus beyers 880, 990 and the 1990 and iMHO these X2's are way up there with all of those and for my preference the best cans I've ever owned, I absolutely love them! Soundstage is the WIDE, warm velvety mids, detailed treble and not not harsh either, I honestly think when I see reviews on these that mention all these so called bad things about these they're listening to a completely different set of cans. I can only put that wide difference of opinion down to the QC issues. I guess I got lucky when I bought mine. But having said all that I do think headphone listening is very subjective perhaps more so than any other HI FI genre, our ears are different I suppose? Anyway that's my opinion and I know there are loads of people out there who agree with me about the X2's and also some who don't, this is what makes this such fun!
@greeliegtdp79987 жыл бұрын
Almost entirely spot on. Although, I do think the X2s have excellent bass for OB headphones. I noticed pretty good sub-bass response when compared the the HD650s. While it does make them more "fun" at low listening levels, that cut in the mid/vocal range is far too strong for my tastes. I agree that if one can find them for a lot less $ (I'd say < $160) then they are an excellent buy for gaming or low level listening. I would like to note that they were very comfortable for me. I hardly noticed their extra weight while wearing them. They did a decent job of "disappearing" on my head after sensory adaptation kicked in (which was short in length).

This review is a farse! No sub bass? while 30hz is at the same db as the mids! And 20hz is not far off. Peaking trebles? Nope, they do do not extend above the mids by one db... Youve been listening to sennheiser crap for too long, you dont even talk about the amazing soundstage on these ot detail levels. I'll give you the 3khz drop, since they were designed that way to not cause resonating treble! Amateur.

No need to be disparaging. I feel this review is a little off the beaten path. I love my X2's, and I love my 650's -- they are two different beasts. The X2's I throw on for bassy music (because they do have sub-bass), and the 650's I put on for classical, and more mid-centric music. And, as you say, I hear no peaky treble (although it is a bit grainy, but not distractingly so)

I wish I had seen this video before I bought a set of X2HRs. I thought my ears were bad when I compared the sound I was hearing to the many reviews on these things. Finally someone agrees with me that these are not that great. The build quality is fine, the comfort levels are fine. The sound however is just too bassy for me. I really can't live with that bass bump and it's for that reason the X2s have been re-packed in their box and will be returned tomorrow. I see that your review is getting some grief from the bassheads out there. Here's one that is on your side.

Solid review, I've had mine for about 2 years now and as a casual listener, my biggest gripe is the low bass roll off like you talked about. To me I think the soundstage and extra mid bass is awesome for gaming. If these could hit those real low frequencies they've be absolutely perfect for me. It's just hard for me to upgrade because these are so damn close to what I want from headphones for gaming, music, movies Are there headphones that sound similar to these but able to hit those lower frequencies? Idk if it is possible to get all this in one sub 400$ headphone but a headphone with a wide sound stage, open back, V-shape, no bass roll off. My ears aren't great and I can't notice or hear the peaks in the highs you talked about so I guess peaks in highs/mids arn't a problem for me. Though I do have a pair of ath m50's and something about the mid/highs are fatiguing.

sony mdr1a. maybe the mdr 1am2 too but i haven't gotten to test them with good music. They have a similar sound profile but closed back. King of sub bass at that price point. 1am2 has balanced input if you like that too. They seemed slightly less comfortable because they chose harder foam on the 1am2. If you don't care about balanced, i suggest the 1a.

@RojasTKD77 жыл бұрын
Rajiv Bisseru Beyerdynamics DT 770 80ohms edition. I found them less harsh than the M50X and better in the mids/vocals. V shaped but we'll done. Built like tanks but very utilitarian looking, not necessarily pretty. Though I enjoyed the X2. They have a big roll off as measured by innerfidelity, though like To said in his review, I didn't sound as rolled of as they measured to his ear or mine. Yes, I little grainy as I recall. I liked them but of not really looking to replace them. The DT 770 (80 ohms) on the other hand, I just might pick up another pair at some point.

I'm an extremely treble sensitive person, and the X2's do not have any peaky treble that I can hear. Also, I do note sub-bass on my pair. I am beginning to wonder if our models are different, or if you might be more influenced by the graphs, or if burn-in is a factor (generally I feel burn-in is hocus pocus, but hey, I hear something WILDLY different from you here). Also, my hearing is not what it used to be, but I can still hear up to 17kHz, and the only flaw with this headphone that I find is the treble is a little grainy, and the lower treble is a touch absent. Both are not dealbreakers, and are even not even missed in many situations.

The trap these headphones make many reviewers fall into is that on the paper these look rather power undemanding. That is technically true, and you do can drive them with just any smartphone around, but... then the result is they may sound boomy and grainy. I have had these for 4 years, tried in many headphone amplifiers and also smartphones, including famed Sabre based Quad DAC of LG V series smartphone, V40 in my case. And honestly, I could not agree with your perception at all. What you described here seems to me as a result of falling into the trap I have described before, a mismatch in power source. Especially the missing sub bass in your perception proves it the most. These can play literally a palpable sub bass out of the relatively cheap Fiio E9K or K5 Pro desktop headamp. LG V40 is a bit better in this regard, but its Quad DAC is more suitable for higher impedance headphones. The best combo I have heard them play in was Teac UD-501 - the sub bass, the clarity of the bass register and also the scene and details were just incredible. These are really wonderful headphones for the price provided the user does not underestimate the pairing with an optimal source.

I think whether or not you like X2 is a matter of perspective. All I had heard before X2 was my SHP-9500's, and as a "step up" can, I loved them! They were my daily driver for several months. But once you've heard better headphones and put X2 back on, their flaws become painfully obvious. That being said, they've obviously always been designed and intended as a "fun" headphone, nowhere near Neutral. I also think you listen much louder than I normally do! I have old-person ears, and my normal listening volume is probably less than what 50% of people listen at. Waiting for your next reviews! *applaud*

I just got the X2s (not the X2HR) on sale for $184. I hear a little grain in the treble (not bad at all) but the rest of sound doesn't match your experience. The vocals do not seem recessed and it doesn't seem to have high distortion although I never blast the volume too high. Also, the bass isn't overdone on my X2s (I do NOT like bass cannon headphones--made the mistake of buying Sony MDR XB950BT and regret it). I wonder if your review unit had a quality control issue.

+DMS3 TV Just trying to offer some insight here. At some point in the life of the X2s, Phillips changed manufacturers. The new manufacturer has had massive quality control issues and sound has been said to divert from the original path. I have the X1 and love them far more than my m560. I find them more accurate and slightly U-shaped when powered by an aune x1s. I got the X1 because Z recommended them and they did not suffer from manufacturing issues. Maybe give them a go? But perhaps you opinion will remain the same so nill.

taief miah My point was that I do not describe my X1s as excessively boomy. I also have m560 by monoprice and still prefer my X1s. @@DMS3TV I am disregarding " pasta"s comment, It's cheap, low brow commentary. I think someone who likes studio detailed sound would not like the fidelio's at all. Anyone who really likes the dt 880, and there are many people who do, would not like the FIDELIO either. The bass is definitely not audiophile bass. I own the lcd2c. That's closer to audiophile bass. The only distortion I ever hear in the bass is more like even harmonic distortion, if I crank them. It does give a bass overhang effect where the bass sounds, I guess I could say, tubby or bloated. Most of the time it just sounds a little overdone and slightly loose compared to most open backs in this league., but that's why they're fun. The treble is uneven, not the best. I think the main culprit in the treble is the 5khz. Peak. Having said all that the x2 is one of my personal top 3 headphones of the ones that I own, along with the hd6xx and audeze lcd2c. I also own the Senn. hd 598, philips shp 9500 and Beyer dt 990 ( 600 Ohm version.) and a couple of others. Enjoy your reviews, nonetheless.

I took a punt on the Fidelio X2HD and they arrived on Sunday afternoon. Out of the box they sounded as bad as the Audio Technica ATH-M50X, woolly, muddy and basically crap. I left the X2HD's to cook overnight playing some drum and bass to soften them up a bit ready for the next day, I'm glad I did as I was going to return them! After a few miles on them the bass, although still a bit thick now has more texture, the flat mid/upper mid has opened up and the slightly tizzy top end has mellowed. I don't hear any real air or soundstage but they're pretty good otherwise, vocals are a heap better. I've not come across anything that images like my AKG K550 mkii yet but they are totally different to the X2HD's in presentation but still very enjoyable. I simply hated the Technica ATH-M50X, how on earth they could be classed for monitoring is either deaf or likes listening to a turgid swamp of wallowng bass and little else. Can amps are Fiio EK09 and/or E17K, Little Dot iii, focusrite 8i6, Topping A30.

I definately agree with your review about these! I got these cause of the many good reviews. But I prefer my HD650. Like you said, they have WAY too much midbass and the peak in the treble is too much. They probably have subbass but that gets lost in the dominant midbass. Somewhere I read they sounded like they have room modes built in. A fitting description :) They are very far from neutral, but I guess that why peoples opinion about these differs so much. But somehow I can't believe someone "tuned" it like that on purpose. Lately I did a lot of comparison between the HD650, the Beyerdynamic T1 and the Fidelio X2. The X2s are not bad, but i prefer the other two. And for me the HD650 is the best "allround headphone" of the three For me neither electronic music, jazz nor classical music sounds better on the X2. I sometimes prefer them with rock and metal though.

Hi! First of all, great review. I just discovered your channel and surely will keep looking at your reviews =). I have the exact same opinion on the X2: the bump on the 55 to 100hz just sounded off to me. And as you said, there were not a good amount of real low end. I ended up keeping my DT990Pro (250ohms) over the X2s. Even though the mediums were handled a bit better by the X2s and the trebles can be a bit harsh on the DT 990 Pro, the Beyerdynamics still has a way better aeration/soundstage and low end (mine go as low as 25-30hz without loosing too many decibels). Now I'm waiting to be able to afford the DT1990Pros! Are you planning to review them btw? Keep up the good work man, cheers from France!
