I did complain it before, but from what he said about the equipment, I think it might be that the original audio quality was too high, like over 16bit. and after youtube compressed it, it created this hiss noise.

I can't believe I haven't found your channel before. One of the only reviewers that uses accurate terminology and explains the physics/technology behind audio products without buzzwords and cloudy adjectives. Your description of how headphones sound is conveyed far better than other reviews I've seen, bravo. I'm very keen on the X1 and X2. The price on the X1 looks like it could drop to around $200; is the sound improvement of the X2 worth the price difference in your opinion?

Just picked these up a couple days ago. WOW. I can't get over how clear and precise they sound. They are definitely warm, but the treble is just fantastic and vocals are rich and more balanced than I anticipated. These sound absolutely amazing for just about any genre of music. I haven't listened to anything too high-end, but these are without a doubt the best headphones I've ever listened to.

I'm thinking of buying an open headphone, and for several weeks I've been doubtful about whether to get the HD 598, HD600, or AKG Q701. This may sound strange but I feel that the X2 is source dependant, if you give it a warm source off course it will sound dark and muffled and to bassy. But give it a neautral or maybe even a brighter source the highs come up, bass tightens and mids come out a little bit forward. Paired with my HTC 10 & Shozy Magic the X2 truly become amazing. I sold my Senns Hd650 & Oppo Pm3 because of this. My ATH Msr7 were close to being gone but the portable factor saved them. :) Philips did an amazing job. And Gibson has fixed all the QC issues and also updated to the X2 sound. They going the right way in the audio industry finally. 😂

Tyll, based on your review, I purchased the Fidelio X2 recently. It seems that there was a manufacturer change, from Woox to Gibson. From my listening, it does not sound at all like how you describe. There is a huge further discussion on head-fi.org. Mine are super super dark, boomy bass, muddy throughout the frequencies but especially towards the low-midrange, and very small soundstage. I find my HD600 to be better in every way other than bass amount, currently. Have you heard any current X2's? Would be interesting to determine if this sound difference that we seem to be perceiving is real or not or if you agree.

You say on your review page that this can come close to the hd600 in this price range. What about the akg k701? Not in the same level? Or is it cause is more "analytic"? I am looking for new phones at the moment. I have the k701 and i dont really know what to do... something with less impedance like the UrbaniteXL(will you do a review on the xl?) for mobile use, or something wiht higher impedance to replace my 701 and use 701 for "mobile" despite its a open phone. Is the hd600 better than a 701 or just different? The other thing would be a hd800. But im not sure if its so much better than the 701. I use the 701 with a meier stagedac which can compensate the lack of bass nicely. So... I dont know. really difficult.

Hope to see a review of the Fidelio L2's. I'm not sure which way to go. So, I would love to get your thoughts on those. X2 or L2 hmmm.
@mav95049 жыл бұрын
Depends on the application, if you're primarily using them for home use go for the X2's, they will most likely be superior in sound quality anyway. But if you want to take the headphones outside the X2's won't really allow that - big size not ideal for portable use and you need a device that can power the headphone loud enough. So for portable use technically the L2 is better, it's what I've been listening to now for a while and it's really excellent, but.. doesn't isolate sound very well ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Look, for outdoor commuting I'd go for the Sennheiser Momentum 2.0, indoor I'd go for the Philips Fidelio X2.

When you have to choose between Hifiman he 400i/s, sennheiser hd 600/650, and this x2, wich one do you prefer? I want to buy after my koss porta pro is in the base to massive. Keep in mind I have a headphone amplifier and DAC the audinst MX 1. I want warm sounding but balanced and not like akg lightness and beyerdynamic harshness in the highs. What about audeze le 8? I think, that planar magnetic headphones are more the choice for movies because of the rich and tight extreme low frequencies. Good video how ever, I looking forward to see review from auduze le 8.

I already have the X2's and I want to compare them to the HD650's also! I wish I knew someone with a pair. I do have the HD600's and basically the x2's sound similar but with a fuller bottom end. So I wonder how similar in sound these are to the HD650's?
@josephharrison40887 жыл бұрын
got the x2s about a week ago because i found them cheep second hand and they blow my dt990s and ad500x's out of the water for pure sound quality but im interested in the neutrality of the 600s
@shameite747 жыл бұрын
HD600's are definitely neutral but lacks that bottom bass filler the X2's have when I a/b test them. I really can't tell you if I like one more than the other because that would depend on you use of the headphone and what amplifier you have also. My HD600's are used more than my X2's because I find the X2's too don't have the detail for gaming like the HD600's due to them having more bass. The HD600's are more comfortable to me also by a good margin due to their softer pads and lighter weight. If I had to make a choice and keep only one, I would keep the HD600's. The bass is real good to me on the X2's though and sounds really good with blues guitar type music due to their fun factor. The HD600's also scale really well with higher end equipment also. I do not find that the case with the X2's. My 2 amps that I like to use with the HD 600's are my BOTTLEHEAD CRACK and Aune T1. What amps do you currently have?
@josephharrison40887 жыл бұрын
Shane White think I might look for a pair of 600s then and nothing special atm just an smsl dac amp but don't have many hard to drive headphones, I am looking to upgrade my set up soon though
@shameite747 жыл бұрын
I would give the HD600's a shot. The s.m.s.l. might work, it just will not play them to their full potential. I use my FIIO E18 dac amp sometimes with them and it makes them play loud enough, just not to their full capabilities. Then later on down the road by an OTL amp for them. Let me know how you like them if you ever get to try a pair.

Those are fighting words about the HD600. :) I'm skeptical ... For a while now I wanted a HD600 with angled drivers and better bass extension - but without losing the excellent neutrality and the refinement and lack of grain of the HD600. The HD700 was supposed to be that headphone but sadly the HD700 is to put it bluntly - crap. I hear rumors about a HD800 successor. PLEASE Sennheiser fix the treble peak and the paint chipping and you'll have a headphone that pretty much renders all other high end headphones irrelevant. :)

Gday mate!. I absolutely love your reviews. I have always appreciated sound, but lately i have been getting onboard with the world of quality portable sound. I have bought a cowon j3, a nice portable amp, made some decent patch cables and am running some vsonic vsd3s iem's with my almost arrived silver upgrade cable kit. I am getting married in less than 2 weeks and i would really appreicate your advice on a set of cans for my portable set up. I currently own pair of AT m50x, so what would you recommend. I wanto relax, with all of this wedding preparation etc and im really stressed out as i type this. Something that just lets me be consumed by sound, cuts off the outside world and lets me drift off to enjoy my own little world for a few minutes. I don't have much money at the moment my friend, so what could you suggest? I really enjoy your videos and sincerly look forward to hearing back from you. Rock on, kevin,from australia.
@Deathrape200110 жыл бұрын
OMFG @ 'silver cable upgrade kit' HAHAHAHA =)) & what about the mile & a half (slightly exagerating) of super thin copper wire in the VOICE COIL (or other 'traces) in your cans? U R a SUCKER! People @ the hi-fi shops laugh @ VICTIMS like U & how they can trick U into wasting your money on that KRAP! There R 2 good types of cable sound-wise. The 1'st is when U mix copper on 1 lead, & aluminum on another (so it's not going through the same metal on 1 of the directions). ANother that improves this further is putting the copper in the middle of a thin sheath, & cladding that in aluminum foil (typical super-cheap 'RG59 video cable). Those sound truly awesome =) I don't really know the science behind it, just hear & enjoy the RESULTS! Simple 'lamp cord' that is copper on 1 lead & aluminum on the other sounds fantastic. Gang them in paralell if need more headroom. B sure not 2 mix copper & aluminum on the same lead. U want 2 force the signal 2 go through both types of metal, not a continuous path of hte same metal N E where start 2 finish.

InnerFidelity I do a lot of FPS gaming on PC and i'm looking to upgrade from my bland sounding Razer Kraken 7.1's....what would be the best headphone Sub $300 for gaming? I doesnt have to have a mic.....I plan on getting a Fiio E10K to power. I was looking for Open Ear so I can get that Directional Audio. Thanks and keep up the awesome job!!

Dont' bother with sound cards. Just make sure your motherboard has an audio chipset that does not force resampling. Realtek (everything from Apple or N E wehre else Realtek is used) forces resampling & thus sounds like absolute krap compared e3ven 2 a cheap 'Analog Devices' chipset based Dell or something thrown out on the street because the fool who tossed it thinks they have 'up'graded HAHAHAHAHA I have may such 'freebie Dells' & they all sound freaking glorious. No need 4 amps or N E of that aftermarket bulL$hit.

Hi InnerFidelity, great video. I'm between the Fidelio X2 (I found them 180usd), the AKG k 240 studio, Hifiman edition S, Audio Technica 500x. I want to connect them to my pc. Which do you think is the best value for money ? This will be my first headphones. Thank you

Tyll, may I please ask you a question? I really trust your ears, I have always agreed with your opinions. So I've been meaning to ask you, which headphone do you think sounds better, the NAD Viso HP50, or the Sennheiser Momentum?
@sapphiro10 жыл бұрын
I had both and liked HP50 better overall, but only slightly. Ended up giving Momentums as a gift to my brother and he was blown away by the great sound :) Momentums (over the ear model) have slightly better highs but HP50 are better balanced tonally across the whole spectrum.

Marc Axelrod Thanks for the reply Marc, I've actually seen your comparison of the two. That video is actually the main reason why my decision is so difficult. Because I know your giving your honest opinion, but I also know other's have the exact opposite opinion. In a perfect world I'd just be able to buy both headphones and see for myself. But I don't have that luxury. I'm just trying to make the right choice here, and I'm in it purely for the sound and nothing else. Really wish I could get a reply from Tyll.

BarbecueGamer he already answered your question you was just too damn lazy to do a simple google search! Even from his own website!!! took me about 14 seconds to find... Idiot! Won't even give you the link all i can say that if you read both reviews(from his website) which you should have done if you are interested in buying one of them. And only want him to reply. Spoiled brat eh?

Emil Pedersen Boy, you sure just jumped the gun. I saw the reply numb nuts. I even emailed Tyll and thanked him on Twitter. Also, I posted this question on Oct 3rd. Same as the question on InnerFidelity. And he replied to that on Oct 6th. Haha, what a massive tool you are. I'm a fan of irony. ^_^

These vs the Nad's? I know it's a sealed versus open headphone comparison, but I still want to know what's better/worse and if it's worth upgrading/replacing. (Btw I own the Nad's)

Hi There, which would you pick between the Audio Technica M50X, Fidelio X2 or Sennheiser HD700 ? I listen to all genres of music, even bass heavy music, but i don't put a lot of emphasis on boomyness, I want something that sounds well defined, clean and robust but also with a wide soundstage. Thank you. Love your videos, keep up the great work!

+Alex Robete Out of those 3, the Fidelio X2 would offer the best bang for your buck, are they similarly priced in your country? What is source? Do you own a headphone amplifier? Do you happen to listen to music in a noisy environment? (Open back headphones leak a lot of sound, both ways, in and out) Do you care about portability?
@Veldoril8 жыл бұрын
+Alex Robete I would purchase the HD700, then apply a global audio EQ to fix the treble. It's considered bright, but you may like that!

+Visual Vel - Lets Player Thank you for your reply, i finally got the fidelio X2 and paired them with a fiio mont blanc portable amplifier and i really like the sound signature.

+Iulian Popa Thank you for your reply. I went ahead and bought the X2 and they are just brilliant! i LOVE the build quality, they feel so luxurious and the sound is superb. I have bought a portable amplifier- Fiio Mont Blanc E12 and i am really happy with the way they pair together. I listen to my music indoors, don't really care for portability and i'm not bothered by the sound leakage. Thank you for your reply.

How do these compare to the akg k7xx, hd600 and hifiman he400s?
@Miniklangwunder7 жыл бұрын
I own the Fidelio X2 and the AKG K702 and in my opinion the X2 makes everything a little bit more enjoyable for my taste. Same clarity on both but the AKG is just very analytic. The X2 is a little bit smoother in the upper highs. So even on high volumes it gets not annoying. With the X2 I get the feeling on many tracks that the volume get one step more up to get more fun but even on the highest level I have this idea. So most other headphones get a limit because of getting uncomfortable in some frequency areas. The X2 does not behave like this. For 300 a very grreat headphone even in 2016!
@Dinyu019 жыл бұрын
hey! great review. do you recommend any amplifiers with these or can I use them without?
@Marr0334 жыл бұрын
You can use them without, but it will slightly improve the sound, not in a way that they will get finally enough power to run like some high impedance low sensitivity headphones, but in a way that the DAC/amp will make a better job than a cheap phone/laptop/mobo DAC.
@seikochristopherward99088 жыл бұрын
i have been wanting this pair of headphones but i own a tube amp. after what you said about it not working well with tubes, i was wondering whether i should still get it or not?
@shameite747 жыл бұрын
Not really so much tube amps, its output transformer-less amps (OTL amps) like the Bottlehead Crack he is talking about which also have tubes just like hybrid amps but without any transformers. They are designed for headphones with an ohm load of 300 and up which is I use with my Sennheisser HD600's. I have plugged my X2's into my Bottlehead Crack and still find they sound good. One example of an Hybrid amp you can use with the X2's would be the AUNE T1 or Schiit Audio Lyr 2. Basically any hybrid tube amp would work since the headphone impedance is low on this headphone if you are looking for a tube sound.
