Yeah, i have the Xiaomi Smart Home System in the studio and the Smartthings Smart Home Ecosystem at home 🙂 so i believe your choice is towards the Xiaomi Yeelight bulb then?
@natecv86 жыл бұрын
Not sure why it matters? There's no need to invest in anything in the Xiaomi ecosystem to use Yeelight. Firstly, it has the option of local LAN control so you don't even need to use the app (I use homeassistant), and second it has a standalone Yeelight app anyway, so there's no need to use Mi Home which controls the other Zigbee Xiaomi products. Essentially, they're totally separate.

I do like my philips hue. The lifex seems little more bulky but I want to see how the colors and brightness compares in person. Colors have philips hue have improved over the years.

Just another comment, I have a Philips Hue system, great bulbs, but they are dear as poison. However I managed to integrate some OSRAM Lightify bulbs (much cheaper, make sure you update the bulbs using the OSRAM gateway, unpair them, then pair them to the Hue bridge), into a Philips hue system, and it works brilliantly, even colour change works as well. The OSRAM bulbs use the same protocol as the Hue (Zigbee Light Link), and it plays well with the Hue bridge. N.B. The American version of OSRAM Lightifys will not work, as they use the Zigbee Home Automation protocol. Also, they won't work with Homekit, but work fine with Alexa and Google Home. I hate Apple, because they have an "our way or the highway" attitude. Also, the OSRAM Lightify app absolutely SUCKS. You are forced to sign up, plus the app has more bugs than a rainforest. Do yourself a favour, update the bulbs firmware, and replace the gateway with a Hue bridge.

This video got so many things wrong I even don't know where to start. Most obvious - did you even measure many of the things you talk about or did you just read a spec sheet which doesn't even tell you half the truth? The stated power usage for every bulb is only valid at a very specific white color temperature as is it's stated brightness. The Hue bulbs has their maximum brightness at 4000K so at the "normal" 2700-3000K they do not use close to the stated power - neither are they as bright as the stated 806 lm. I don't know the Xiaomi but take the IKEA Trådfri RGB which is also stated 600 lm. The interesting thing is that it is valid at around 2700K so at 2700K it's actually a hair brighter than Hue at that color temperature even though it's stated specs are lower for both power usage and brightness. For such lights you *cannot* just read something of a spec sheet and present it as the truth in a KZbin video!! Everything else is like believing the car manufacturers mileage claims and think how you drive is insignificant. Then there's another very important power usage - the standby usage which is also very important as most smart bulbs will actually spend most of their life being powered off. And that was just what I commented. I'm not very impressed by this "comparison". Happy New Year!

Very good review and comparison. Also very good editing. I was torn between the Philips Hue and the LIFX. I went ahead and ordered a 4 pack of LIFX bulbs, went on Amazon and read some reviews. There are MANY people complaining about connectivity and the cheap build of the product, so i immediately cancelled my order. No doubt, the LIFX really wins in the color and brightness department, but i would rather sacrifice a bit of brightness and color for a better user experince and a more reliable eco system. The LIFX unfortunately takes up 1 IP adress per bulb, which can really slow down WiFi when you live in the city. The Philips uses ZigBee technology to create a "mesh" network, so the connectivity and reliability is dramatically improved. I'm sure i'll never have over 50 bulbs in my apartment, so the Bridge limit really doesn't matter unless you have a gigantic home. Philips will most likely release a 4th generation of Hue bulbs with 1000-1200 lumens with even better color productions. I'll give it maximum 1 year, and the colors will be almost identical between Hue and LIFX. Also i've read that LIFX bulbs sometimes suddenly stops working and even dies out of nowhere. Philips is really known for their reliability in the lighting department, and with the motion sensor, tap, remote and the expanding Hue family; the choice was clear. So in short: if you want the best color reproduction, and the most brightness, AND accept the connectivity problems etc, go with LIFX. If you want great colors, reliability, the ability to automate your home via motion sensors and expand on your smart lighting with for example Hue Bloom, Hue Go, Hue Iris, Hue Lightstrip Plus, Hue Tap, Hue Dimmer Switch/Remote; Go with Philips. They are a trusted company. Also the 4 pack LIFX is on sale right now for 235 euros. I bought the Philips Hue 3rd Generation Starter Kit with 3 bulbs + bridge for 160 euros. Then i went ahead and bought another bulb AND a motion sensor and ended up at the same price as 4 LIFX. So i got 4 bulbs, a bridge + a motion sensor for the same money. :) When gen 4 of the Hue bulbs arrives, they will be brighter and have even richer colors. I just sold my 1st gen of Hue bulbs and bought gen 3. I am happy i did. Can't wait for gen 4 of the Hue!

Hello, you should consider checking your sources or search more deeply when doing such comparison :) 6 wrong or not given facts you said about Yeelights in order of the video: 1) Yeelight have the music mode since they exist 2) Yeelight have at least as much accessories as the Hue + controllers like the Mi Cube does not need any bridge, where Hue need a bridge for every single product 3) Yeelight can be integrated in HomeKit (not officially supported, but very easy to do): forum.yeelight.com/t/homebridge-plugin/83 4) You say Yeelight and LIFX have delay controlled via Google Home/Amazon Echo compared to Hue that connects directly. In fact the contrary happens: AI communicates with the Hue bridge then the bridge communicates with the bulb. For Yeelight the AI communicates with the bulb directly (no bridge). 5) Via Amazon Echo you can set colour, intensity, sleep timer and even scenes of your Yeelight. 6) Yeelight RGB costs 18.5$ with free shipping worldwide. Out of these disappointing facts, great video!

LIFX lights rule! Yes they can hiccup on firmware updates but will resolve themselves thru reset. I have over 30+ bulbs now for more than x2 years Gen 1, 2, + and they all are working as needed with my smart home devices. Hue completely suck when it comes to color, not even close to LIFX. I bought these originally then purchased some LIFX to test, all HUE went back to MFG. Xiaomi I have not a clue but I am certain they cannot match the Color & Software of LIFX. Sure they are cheaper but you get what you pay for. Good reviews, but HUE (lol) really? They suck compared to LIFX. The LIFX + for indoor/outdoor cameras are great, giving you more expanded vision at night for your areas that have cameras. .And yeah none of the others have this ability or option. TRUST ME, if you have the money purchase LIFX as they RULE!!!

I bought the Yeelight from Xiaomi. It was just $9.99 each at a China warehouse (banggood). I would never spend so much money for a light bulb. Only because it's "new" and innovative for your smart home doesn't mean that the companies have to push the prices up in the air. Four yeelights instead of not even one of Hue is a big deal for me.

I enjoyed the video, and agreed on most points. I have the Lifx, Hue, and some Sylvania Lightify (as they were low cost and paired with the Samsung SmartThings hub). I would like to point out that YeeLights will pair directly with Google Assistant and Alexa. I would have liked to seen what the color range/comparison was with the YeeLight as it was with the Lifx and Hue.
@MikeTrieu6 жыл бұрын
I don't get why you're comparing power usage like that. The number on the marketing materials is at maximum intensity. Of course the LIFX will consume the most energy at that level. You should have reduced both the LIFX and the Hue to the same lumen output as the Yee and then measured the power draw of all three. That's the only way to make a fair comparison.

I think there's an important factor you missed here, and that is reliability. I ultimately went with Hue over Lifx because of this. Each Lifx bulb emits its own wifi signal which can cause major network congestion, especially if you live in a busy area or don't have the best internet speeds, resulting in a bulb not turning on here and there. While still a minor inconvenience, it would completely kill the experience for me and everyone else who don't want their fancy color changing lights to be an extra hassle. Sure Lifx is brighter and more color accurate but at the end of the day you can get the same effect with Hue and be completely happy with it. Just my 2 cents. Thanks for the vid!
@AdamLoboTV7 жыл бұрын
Hey there, i did mention about the connectivity issues at minute 6:32 onwards with LIFX and i have mentioned that i personally choose the Philips Hue as well :)
@natecv86 жыл бұрын
Same for Zigbee bulbs like hue, which also transmit on 2.4GHz and also all communicate with a wifi-like protocol. The worst part is that when you use Zigbee based bulbs, which Hue is, it interferes with 2.4GHz wifi which almost everyone has at home and affects both.
@cookster696 жыл бұрын
For a room light lifx is still great though, I just use one in my room and so far no problems, only that the colour cycle feature is a bit underwhelming.
