Hue is very versatile, has tons of functions in the bridge and bulbs. The lights have very accurate colors, decent brightness and can be dimmed further down than any I've seen so far. No other product I tried out matches their quality. I still have products of other brands in my home, OSRAM plugs and IKEA kitchen lights. Thanks to ZigBee they are all compatible with the Hue bridge and work seemlessly in one system. Makes me strongly disagree with Linus here.

I’ve never ever had an issue with Hue. It works every time. By comparison, I’ve worked with other smart bulbs integrating into other systems… and those occasionally have issues that require I delete, re-find and install, and then rebuild all the routines involved. And Hue can often be purchased at discount; just last week, I got a pair of Hue strips on sale for $20 less per strip than usual. So this is less about ‘ripoff’, and more about “you get what you pay for”.
@rtyler1869 Жыл бұрын
that is a fair comment... I am currently using a mirabella system of lights in Australia and even with dedicated ip ports on my network I am getting occasional drop outs... will progressively move to Hue now that I have bitt the bullet and gotten the hub to work with an pair of sensors.

My thoughts exactly, maybe they have improved since this video, but not only they are less expensive than mentioned here (got most of them on discounted bundles) but to me the main appeal that gives them the edge is how everything just works, and the app is very intuitive as mentioned by Linus. Yeah, I question the "thousands of dollars" drawback of Hue and Lifx, too. Who's replacing 40 lights with smart bulbs in their house? Majority of those lights are assuredly hardwired overheads controlled by switches. They don't need to change color (use a few lamps to set mood lights), so just hardwire in smart switches to control them. $35 bucks each to control a group of light bulbs rather than $60 per bulb.

One of the reasons why I argue that phone screens should have square corners and to put buttons/fingerprint scanner/cameras/speakers in the top/bottom bezel area. If you have more screen at the top, but with curved corners cut out and notch in the middle missing, to view rectangular content (basically everything) you either miss part of it or it is moved down to where the square corners would exist. At the bottom where the corners are cut out make you miss part of the content, or again move it away from the edge. Same thing with the buttons-swipe up for on screen buttons that reside where the captive ones used to exist...the same area that content gets moved out of the be able to not have the corners clipped...so why not just leave the actual buttons. Phones might have more of an "art" to them, but we are taking steps backwards in terms of use.

Also, Ive tried quite a few but in secret so my Lifx and Hue bulbs dont know Iam sleeping around - but NO bulbs on the market Ive come upon are able to produce the amount of light that Lifx and Hue can when used in a color mode. The low end stuff does the range oif whites fine especially for the price, but as soon as select a color the light output seems reduced by quite a bit... to the point where no amount of them in 1 room can adequately light a room. I get full color bulbs to use full color! Doesnt matter if its 10x cheaper if the functionality i bought it for isnt there then its just e-waste. I was a relatively early adopter and the amount Ive spent is painful to consider for light bulbs but man, I freaking love them. Oh yeah Sylvania Lightify actually had a decent full color recessed / can light product in the sense that it could put out good light while in a color mode, and like the Lifx and Hue the colors were vibrant but man their firmware is so buggy, and they ended up closing up shop, shutting down the Lightify cloud... luckily they pushed one last update that made them fully local control so the product wasnt just instantly unusable - sucks thats a big plus for a company these days but not many actually do that, so its points in my book.

I agree to an extent. I've used hue bulbs and light strips for a few years now, software reliability is great. The bulbs I haven't had an issue yet other than the gen 2 bulbs and gen 3 bulbs have the exact same markings on them so if you mix them up you can't pick them apart again. What the hell hue. And the light strip quity is bad. Every light strip I have owned from hue, has had a one foot stretch of lights that just decides one day it is always going to be a random color other than the one you choose, and after googling, is a common problem. That's a big issue for me. I didn't fork over that money for less than 6 months out of a lightstrip. I tried lifx for a while, the lights themselves are FAR superior. But I think I got 1 bulb to actually pair correctly. I tried two batches. Had to go back to hue

Four years later and I'm totally sick of all wifi switches and plugs. They constantly disappear from my network. From kasa to lifx. WiFi was an easy choice, but not a smart one. In contrast, my lutron switches have never disappeared in the same timeframe. Not once. I'm switching to hubs and not looking back. I use them almost everywhere in my appartment. I use motion sensors to turn the lights on and off as needed and the LED tech makes them use less energy. different colors make sense during different times of the day and the ability to turn off the lights when I forgot after leaving home is an added bonus. some rooms also run on a timed script so that I do not need to come into a dark house. location scripts help there as well btw. And I love my voice commands through Siri or Alexa if my hands are full and I want to turn the light on or off.

In the 2014 Target hack that exposed customers' credit card information, the hackers got in through the air conditioner control network. What is to say poorly secured lights couldn't do the same? Further, a number of routers and smart appliances were compromised and took part in the Mirai botnet which attacked cloud flare and crippled parts of their network. I want no part in that.

I got the hue lights because they're the leaders on the market. So many apps only have integration with hue lights and no other lights. Sleep as android and flux is two examples. You did not mention the powerusage of the bulbs. Yeelight consumes much more power, when in idle. I don't know the exact numbers but it is not that little. This is because the alsways on WIFI connection uses much more power than the Phillips HUE connection. So if you turn off your lights (via your lightswitches) Yeelight will be cheaper. But if you only use the idle mode you should DEFINITELY consider Phillips HUE. You could also implement the xiaomi smart light switches to controll your yeelights 100% wirelessly.
@MURTOE426 жыл бұрын

@@notmenotme614 It's not just the convenience to me. I see an actual practical use with smart lighting systems. For example, as a photographer I can easily change the light temperature in the room where I edit my photos, making it easier for me to get accurate colors. After I'm done I can change to a more relaxing color temperature and dim the lights. Then there is the option to use the lights as a wakeup light, which is something I already did in the past with a separate light on my nightstand. The Hue Sync app is also great, syncing the lights to what I see on my screen while playing games is really cool! While Playing DBZ Kakarot the whole room was red with flashing lights as I beat Frieza to a pulp while Namek was exploding. It was awesome! Same in Doom Eternal. I wouldn't make the switch to a system like that all at once. I would switch out lights one by one. Hue is just an obvious choice because a) it's a very solid system and b) since they are so well established you don't have to worry about the company going bankrupt so your lights suddenly become useless. It's a luxury compared to regular lights though. That's for sure.

I have been using smart bulbs in my apartment for a couple years now, and had several brands until last month. I had LIFX and a couple value brands from Amazon. It was fine until I had to change my router password and had to reprogram all 21 of my bulbs. If was frustrating enough that I bought Hue lights to replace all of the bulbs. To save some money, I went with all white bulbs since the functionality of the RGB was never utilized on the LIFX bulbs. The software compatibility is what is now a high priority and Phillips Hue works pretty well with Alexa for voice control. After spending 450 bucks, lighting has been finished and I am pretty satisfied.

Got Philips hue all throughout my house and it was completely worth it. Buy the startersets including the hub when they are at a discount and sell the hub. The price per bulb is very low that way and I also bought some white lights for places like bathrooms where I don't need a disco effect. I have all my lights powered 24/7 and I connected all wall switches to a z-uno that passes the wall switch signal through z-wave to my domotica setup. (home assistant on a synology, also using z-wave motion detectors) It's also great how the philips hue is integrated in everything. My domotica system can control them very well as well as google home (voice) and from apps such as plex. (lights go out when a movie starts and they go on again on pause or stop) All in all I will not switch easily from Philips hue to something else, the only thing I miss is ps4 integration so that the color matches the game/video I'm playing. That does work in windows with an app which is a really nice feature.

I've got a few of the Ikea lights with my hue lights and they are fine. It depends on the light fw though.. It still works as a dumb light though..

I started using smart lights because everyone leaves lights on in my house and I was tired of coming home to an empty house with every light on.... I figured there'd be a company like YeeLight eventually when I started buying the Hue stuff. I have 6 bulbs in total in my place and 2 LED strips and I feel like the money I invested was worth it. I haven't looked back and thought, that was a waste. I also think the Hue setup on my phone was super easy to use and once I setup a few timers, programmed the remote/switch and stuff, I haven't had to adjust it since. I think eventually the Hues stuff will get cheaper... there have been some really good sales that bring down the prices to half in most cases for me.

I have wanted a smart home for a while. I started November with a google home for my Birthday. I had used it 80% of the time on my phone. I got a hive hub on eBay brand new for £43.00 inc p&p. I Started off with the smart plug as I was sick of them cheap timber lights. We have a hall table lamp. But the timer kept clapping out. I would go to bed and it would either not be on coming home or it would be on till 12:30 AM when trying to sleep. I loved it so have ordered some GU10s I only order when things are on discount or and offer. I have loved been able to turn off my lights when out. I work in care and have funny hours. I set my bed table lamp on to wake me up on days off I just switch the main lamp switch off.

After my father passed away and my mother was faced with being alone after 50 years she surprisingly was accepting of the hue setup I installed in her home. She learned to control them with her smart phone and home automation was a plus that made her feel more confident. Installing motion sensors in dark areas of the home with switches difficult to reach (older home) made her ask me why didn’t I she have this years ago?! Surprisingly I’ve found more millennial aged individuals that were against it, which had me shocked. So this is one of those things, you don’t know unless you ask or get them to try.

What i really want is Syncing my lights with my games and movies, i feel this is the most overlooked and underrated feature that HUE has going for it. i think all of our entertainment is going in the direction of syncing lights to our TVs and monitors. I Have LIFX but stubbornly they still haven't created this option natively yet. and its a real bummer considering how much brighter and more colorful the bulbs are. HUE is so far the only options to do this out of the box. and its making me consider buying a few just to play all my PC games with some cool lighting for more "immersion" x)

As far as I know, the processor in the Hue hub is the only thing fast enough to process the color changes at or near 60 fps.
