That tape at 7:55 must be from Denmark or at least of the recording is.. I can see the Danish railroads logo on the train. Denmark was a bit late to the game getting video recorders so I am bit surprised seeing a danish N1500 tape (Only one danish tv channel back then, whats the point !). Do you know what is recorded on that tape ?

Hi Colin great video I must say I've never had a problem changing the drive belts may be because I've got little fingers that helps a lot i do find the flat belt that drives the head drum tends to jump off the drive motor quite a bit maybe I'm using to large belts I don't know

That 1700 looks better than my 1700 in the late 1980s, early 1990s! I didn't know the white tool could be used for cleaning the capstan(?). I used it for years as non-conductive, non-magnetic screw driver.

Not sure if that's something you are looking for, but I'd have a Grundig BK 2500 COLOR that's sitting at my parent's place. Not sure if parts are interchangable to the Philips machines. It's quite a bit older than those. Here's a photograph: upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/34/Bk2500_color.jpg

The heads are probably not interchangeable though the tape format is the same as N1500. So it would only be useful if I could actually repair it, which would be a challenge. Send me an email via my web site, it could make an interesting KZbin video at least.

I think you should make a video where you get the whole family to talk about the struggles of this year.

I am already formulating a New Year video, hoping I can pull it off. It will be quite different to anything I've done before, if I can do it.

Yes i thought the replacement belts looked a bit weedy, but they worked :-D Maybe the motor is not as strong as it used to be, wearing brushes can change the connection quality. Or crap caps on the motor servo board, old enough to be high esr? I have one of those white tools, i didn't know what it was for or where i got it lol. I think the motors are similar to the capstan motor on the old jvc 3320 piano key machines.
