Five years after this was posted and we're still finding it to fix our Philips' Sonicare toothbrushes. I will note that mine was the 9120 (with bluetooth). Apparently I needed to squeeze the sides (used a plumber's pliers with extra wide mouth and adjustable handle) and couldn't get it to release the bottom. I finally used the vice to squeeze, was able to pry the bottom off, the turned everything over and used skinny screwdrivers to open the two teeth holding the innards in. Tightened the screw and reassembled. (I do anticipate that I will be repeating this in the future with a drop of locktite or superglue on those threads.) Thanks Barry for your excellent video. As mentioned, great voice with a good script, no annoying music and clear instructions and closeups when appropriate. Thanks again.

Brilliant, thank you. So descriptive and the close ups are so clear, so that the tiny pieces are easily seen and identified.

I wish all KZbin instructional videos were so clear and to the point. No hemming-and-hawing, no crazy background music, articulate choice of words, clear audio and video. Next please show us how to rebuild a Ferrari V-12. I’d watch!

Mr. Dorfman, you can thank me by adding one more thing under "Show More Info" above: you can add details/links of the exact manufacturer you used for your replacement part, as we have the identical model of Sonicare and we are in the midst of a Trade War with China. I want the fabrication and shipping of this cheap little part to go as smoothly as possible (and with as little lead content as possible). -Writer *Update: Actually, I researched it and found I can get it in two days from Amazon, with their guarantee. The entire motor assembly is on Amazon as well, including the rod part (what you call the shaft) for only $7 more. The rod itself is about $16. I'll put the link here. And thank you again for such clear and concise work. -w. www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07GDH2RB8/ref=ox_sc_act_title_2?smid=A27KR42VZ8Q72K&psc=1

This was an amazingly helpful video, thank you very much! I recently purchased a new Sonicare HX9120 and it died on me less than two months after I started using it. It's still within warranty, so I'm waiting for its promised replacement, but in the meantime, I wondered if I could fix the broken one and turned to KZbin videos. I wasn't able to find a fix for the HX9120, but your video taught me that I could repair a THIRD brush, a Sonicare HX6930, that's been in my closet for a couple years. That one stopped working correctly after being magnificent for about 10 years and I just hated to toss it, so I stowed it and tried another brand for a while. Your video showed me how to take the link rod assembly off the broken HX9120 and put it on the broken HX6930 so that the older brush works again without having to buy a new link rod assembly! Your clear closeups and detailed explanations, plus the fact that there are no gaps in the video like I see in some others, helped this old gal TREMENDOUSLY. I'm thrilled that I can use that old, reliable HX6930 again, especially since so many of the newer models have known problems right out of the box. Thank you SO much!

Thank you for the video! One of the better how to vids I've seen. I was about to buy a new toothbrush, you saved me $100. Your demo on how to open the device worked perfectly. If I had not have seen it, I would have destroyed the bottom of the toothbrush trying to open it up. My issue just happened to be a loose screw. I used some thread locker as you recommended and it's as good as new. Thank you!

Great details. Thank you. One note, my sonicare is the HX682p, so once the bottom cover comes off, the mechanism itself is retained by a clip on either side. These can be released with a very small flathead screwdriver.

Thank you very much for this video. I have the exact same problem on my Sonicare DiamondClean. Unfortunately I discovered this video only after having bought a completely new toothbrush spending about $150. To be honest, this was for a pair of two brushes, an offering on the local Amazon. But even $75 for a new handle is way more than what the replacement part would've cost me. The other handle will go to my partner as a present. Anyway, I am going to try to repair my old toothbrush according to your recipe. This way, at least I'll have a backup in case anything happens to the new one.

Mine had a slightly different problem. The upper molded metal part is splined on the inside with one flat side and the shaft is pressed in (the flat keeps the shaft in the proper orientation for the toothbrush to face you). Well, the splines had become worn and the shaft fell out! After some puzzlement, I reversed the shaft and pressed back in. It is tight as new and everything works, you just have to put the toothbrush on backwards and hold it with the buttons facing away. A small inconvenience and better than buying a new part. Thanks again for explanation of disassembly.

your video is extremely helpful. I need to do a replacement of the metal shaft also but I see a copper wire coil wrapped around it under the rubber seal--the wire comes from the circuit board that is in the handle part. any idea how to deal with this copper wire when installing the new metal shaft/stem? is it safe to just cut the copper wire? Thank you.

It sounds like you’re trying to replace more than demonstrated here. That eventually happened to my toothbrush as well. The inner connections broke. If you look carefully I think you’ll see that you would have to break welds to get into that part of the toothbrush. If so, it’s not repairable.

After two weeks my toothbrush was wobbling again. I was worried that the metal had broken again. What I found was just that the screw had come loose. I’ve now tried with more thread-locker. I may need to buy some that isn’t so ancient to try again. We shall see in another few weeks.

If it turns out to be just a loose screw, and you don't have thread locker handy, nail polish will work to keep that screw from backing off again.

Hi. The shart on my toothbrush is also broken. However, it stuck in the triangle piece. How did you remove it?
@BarryDorfman
@BarryDorfman 5 жыл бұрын
All you should have to do is to remove the screw. After that the piece should just fall out. If that doesn’t work, I guess I would drill a small hole in the piece and use a screw extractor in that hole to grab it where you could pull better.

@citizenw 5 жыл бұрын
Sorry about your "shart"; those can be messy. My screw corroded into my shaft as well because I purchased it in eight years ago and use it frequently with water. I'm extracting it with a drill as we speak. The extractors, left-handed bits, bite to the left and so twist a screw out. I got my set on Amazon for PC repair. If you're DYI-ing often, you should get a small set. Cheap hardware will strip when least desired. -w.
