One of the best days of my then 19 year old life. Had never seen the Phillies make the playoffs.

I was 19 as well, listening to the game on the radio at work. I'll never forget hearing the crowd in the background start cheering before they announced that the Mets were losing in the 1st. Don't remember much of the game itself other than it feeling totally surreal that they were finally going to the playoffs.

Here I am 21 years old now and haven’t seen the Phil’s in the playoffs really , I didn’t start watching sports til I was about 10 years old so my first year I watched was the last time the Phillies made the playoffs , I can’t wait for the day man hopefully Harper can get it done

Me and my grandma watched this on TV the day it happened. We recorded it on vhs, dancing and yelling after that last out. We were so psyched. She died April of 2008 and never got to see the world series win. I still think she gave me that win. The Phil's won because she willed it from heaven
@leostenson44764 ай бұрын
It was awesome to win the whole thing the following year, but this right here was so special for me because I was 12 the last time we made the playoffs before this in 1993 and lost the world series to the Blue Jays
@PaladinLarec5 жыл бұрын
This game is special to me because I sat at home with my grandmother, who was a huge Phils fan and we watched this. Even recorded the after celebration (with the hose) on VHS. My grandmother died of lung cancer 6 months later and never got to see the 2008 world series champs. But this moment, she got to see with me.

God I miss Harry Kalas. And God I miss the days when Phillies baseball was fun. I'm old enough to have gone through the years 1975-83 when those Phillies teams went from learning how to win to finally winning it all to their final year of glory before sinking to the depths of mediocrity and finally the end of the career of the finest ballplayer I ever saw in Mike Schmidt. It would be 4 long years after that before baseball was fun again. That only lasted 1 year. Then the 2000's came and we had a front office who recognized talent and built us up a farm system. We had J-Roll, Utley, Howard, Ruiz, Hamels, Myers, Burrell, and say what you want about Ed Wade but he refused to part with any of them. This gave us 5 season of utter bliss. Sadly we only got 1 championship out of this crew. Now, this team is hard to watch.

This was the first memorable feeling I've ever had as a Phillies fan. Prior to this, the last time this team won their division was 1993, but I was three. When this happened, I was like "FINALLY!!!" or "PHINALLY!!!" with the short-term reaction. With the long-term reaction, I thought about all of the Veterans Stadium hold overs like the Pat Burrells, the Chase Utleys, the Jimmy Rollins, etc. etc. All the suffering they went through, playing in front of half-empty crowds, watching the Braves dominate their division. On this warm, sunny afternoon, this was their moment as much as it was everybody's.

I just remember watching the digit to the right of FLA change from 0 to 1 to 4 to 5 to 7 before the Phillies game even started. It was like “Okay. The Mets choked. This is really going to happen.” Because remember, the Phils JUST MISSED the playoffs in 2001, 2003, 2005, and 2006. Then after they took a one game lead on the Mets with 2 games to go, they immediately lost the next day 4-2. Meanwhile, New York obliterated Florida 13-0 on the strength of a combined one hit, 15 strikeout performance by their pitching staff. The Mets had Glavine for the last game. We had Moyer. It was supposed to be a stressful day. That went out the window when the Marlins put up a touchdown and the extra point in the first inning while the teams were warming up for our game.

One of the only times I can tell you exactly where I was when a moment in time happened for me. I was sitting in my brothers car in the parking lot at Big Diamond Speedway. When Myers struck out that last batter, many car horns started going off in the parking lot, that was really cool to hear. This was the start of something special. I think it could have been a lot more special than what it turned out to be but still every special. I was around for the 1993 Phillies and I LOVE them, but I think I love these guys just as much. Man..............2007 through 2011 were such great years. The highest of highs and lowest of lows.............but mainly miss that sweet voice of Harry the K...........

Yeah, they probably had used up most of their emotional energy just to get to the playoffs, and Colorado pretty much won every game from mid-September until they dropped off a cliff against the Red Sox in the WS that year. But the Phils really used 2007 to springboard into 2008... nobody could touch them in the playoffs, 11-3 record. Which, by the way, no WS champ since then has lost as few as 3 games.
