Thank God for those years. Jeez, we would going on like nearly 40 years of futility otherwise. But those 2 years were quite magical, and almost got there in 2013. The 2014 season was wild even though we didn't win it all. And 2015 was such a comeback year for us and quite a magical season. Hopefully we can get back there again before the next 20 years or something lol. It's been so bad this year.

Red Sox barely scraped out almost every game they won that series

Their World Series Hangover has lasted 70 games so far. We'll see how it goes for them. They hit their peak last year and are due for regression. The Mariners have younger talent than they do and a blow up and rebuild is inevitable for the Astros in the future. Astros fans can say that's impossible but it really isn't. All dynasties have an end at some point. You'll be back to sucking at some point.

Great compilation, but 2017 Game 5 NLDS Cubs vs Nats definitely should be on here. With two outs in the fifth inning, Nats gave up three hits (two w/two strikes), a passed ball/catcher throwing error, a catcher's interference, and hit by pitch to let Cubs score four and take the lead. All of that was with Scherzer on the mound in relief. Absolutely wild to watch in real time. To add insult, Bryce Harper struck out to end the game, series, and season for the Nats 🤣🤣🤣

That series vs the Tigers was crazy. If I remember correctly the Sox had 2 hits through the first 14 innings. Verlander took a no hitter into the 9th or 8th inning in game 1. Scherzer looked even better through the first 5 innings of game 2. It looked like our season was over. Going down 0-2 and moving to Detroit, we would have had to beat Anibal Sanchez in game 3 and then pray to god that we could get to both Verlander and Scherzer. Plus the Tigers offense led by arguably the greatest hitter of a generation in Miggy. 8th inning of Game 2 of the ALCS that year is easily my favorite Sox memory….Ortiz’s Grand Salami was right up there with his heroics in 2004. What a time that was!

I was at game 1, was studying in my sophomore year. The entire year was crazy since the marathon. Got standing room tickets to game 1 and we got our first hit in the 9th. With a stolen base we almost tied it up. But it was a tough loss and it was so COLD for October. Then papi puts the fuckin city on his back and we don’t look back. Still get goosebumps every time I think about it. Oh and I also got standing room tickets for Game 6 in the WS against STL. Yep got to see the Sox win the World Series at Fenway for the first time in almost 100 years to top it all off. It was unreal man

1:35 Daniel Descalso is one od my favorite players for some reason. He was never a star or anything, just a somewhat decent .240, 10 homerun hitter every year, playing around the infield and occasionally outfield as a utility player and frequent pinch hitter. Like I said, never a star, but productive enough that he got solid playing time, especially for the Dbacks (My team), and I got to watch him in 2017-18 when he was in AZ. As a Rockies players he had his highest career batting average at .264 (8 HR, hit 10 and 13 in AZ), so I always saw him as solid, plus he was a decent defender. Anyways, he just seemed like a really cool dude, and he was always pretty exciting and energetic on the field. In 2017 I got to see my second Dbacks game (I live in Tucson, roughly 1:30 from Chase Field in Phoenix), and it was the first win and Dbacks runs I saw after we lost 2-0 against the Rockies in 2014. He got the walkoff hit in that game, which was really door to me. He also kind of looks like one of my dad's best friends, and my best friend and I always brought him up for some reason even though he doesn't like sports at all (Same with Eric Sogard lmao), so I always had a special place for Descalso. Would love to meet him someday, he's a total stud and legend in my eyes :)

I was listening to the game live, and I immediately knew it was a horrible decision for Bochy to yank Moore after the eighth inning. Moore was dominating the cubs on two-hit pitching. As it turns out, not having Moore start the ninth inning was the precise moment when the Giants' little every-other-year dynasty finally ended. And Bochy should have known better, because the Giants beat the Nationals two years earlier in a game when the Nats' manager stupidly yanked the starting pitcher with two outs in the ninth. Also there was the legacy of Dusty Baker costing the Giants a potential 2003 World Series victory with his "yank the starting pitcher" move in Game 6 of that series with the Angels. Managers out there: in the playoffs, if your starting pitcher is dominating the other team, do not, repeat do NOT, remove him because of "pitch count" or because it happens to be the eighth or ninth inning.

I was originally thinking 2020 Cardinals vs Padres Game 2 and 2019 Dodgers vs Nationals Game 5 in place of 2015 Royals vs Mets and 2022 Cardinals vs Phillies, but maybe those would be more good comebacks rather than chokes. Adding 2022 Dodgers vs Padres Game 4 as well as a shoutout, but I can be okay with this list. There was some sort of mistake with all these teams as well on the list.

I wish there were still teams like those 2014-2015 Royals. Singles up the middle, stolen bases, sac bunts, timely hitting. Team was fun to watch because they’re weren’t flashy, they all did their job and did it well.

I agree. There is a time and place for the home run, mind you, but too much of that gets dull. I'm not a Cardinals fan but I remember the Herzog teams of the 1980s and they were a LOT of fun to watch precisely because of what you said. Good place hitting, fast runners, I can't help but think that a team like the 1985 Cards or the 2015 Royals would do very well in our longball era. In the past 200 HR was considered very impressive, and intimidating (I think of teams like the 1982 Brewers or the 1977 White Sox as being real power teams). But today it seems like a team that hits 200 HR is low on the totem pole. I'm not sure I like that, but I guess I'm just old-fashioned. Lol

That 2013 ALCS game 2 was something special man. The night before I was at Game 1 and the sox almost got no-hit (got their first hit in the bottom of the ninth). It was COLD in Boston for October and we thought this series would be trouble. This was the year of the Boston Marathon Bombing. David Ortiz literally put the entire city on his back that night. And I ended up getting tickets to Game 6 of the World Series where the Sox beat the Cardinals at Fenway. Some of the best days of my entire life were in that October 2013 postseason. Still have Fenway dirt folded up with my ticket from the WS.

Fun fact about that game: The A’s had known about the Royals’ aggressive base running before the game and they started their backup catcher that game, who was better at throwing out base-stealers but worse at hitting, than their regular starting catcher. However, in the second inning, that backup catcher suffered a thumb injury when a runner from the Royals made the rather careless decision to run for home while a rundown was going on between 1st and 2nd base. The backup catcher from the A’s was removed due to an injury sustained on that play, while led to the original catcher being put in, which was a huge part in why the Royals could steal all those bases

I think game 5 of the 2011 NLDS between the Phillies and Cardinals deserves a mention. Not because the Phils had a lead but blew it but how, with Roy Halliday on the mound they couldn't even score a run. When you have a lineup of Shane Victorino, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Hunter Pence, Ryan Howard, and Raul Ibanez and you can't scratch out a couple of runs that is a choke if there ever was one.

So much of Kershaw’s postseason legacy has been managers making the worst decision when deciding to pull him or leave him in. When they would actually take him out, the bullpen allowed nearly all his runners to score. Something like 80% of inherited runners scored after Kershaw was taken out of postseason games, which is far, far more than the league average. Then of course there’s the elimination games where they just left Kershaw in to wear it. And yet in the history of MLB the pitcher with the most postseason starts of 7 or more IP, 0-1 R, 3 or fewer hits is Clayton Kershaw (7x).

The A's Royals WC game was one of the better MLB playoff games ever. One of the few times I can watch a game as a non-fan and be as riveted as if I were a fan of one of the teams. Royals first playoff appearance in 29 years, huge comeback, Lester getting exposed for not having a pickoff move, back and forth with the A's taking the lead again, clutch hits and clutch stolen bases, walk off win. Truly fantastic. If I had to show a non-baseball fan 1 game to explain why baseball is so awesome, that game would be on my short list of choices.
