This was presumably the spare continuity suite NC3/Sub Control, which is smaller than the main NC1. It was here that the "broomcupboard" name was originally coined to refer to.

@@travellingshoes5241 looks the same apart from grey hair. After Philip came andi Peters presenter lol. I used to think cbbc and citv where competing which was the best programmes. Remember children's ward with Danny dyer at those times on citv and finders keepers. It was shocking back then to find out from dad back in those times that the citv show the krankies was actually husband and wife with the wife dressing up as the school boy with the shorts and cap and freckles.

@doubledeckers That is cool. I used to love video. And my sister STILL has and uses a Ferguson vcr! It's really old and clunky but it works a treat and she clearly has an emotional attachment to it. ;p

@theblazingangel - it would have been a video-recorder from Radio Rentals in those days, so a Ferguson or JVC. I can't check the brand of tape right now but I'll be able to look in a couple of months. Tapes were good quality in the 1980's. I seem to remember they still cost about £5 each at that time? The tapes have been looked after and I think people underestimate the quality of VHS. And once it's been captured it can be filtered so it looks even better :)

We had a Ferguson or JVC video-recorder at the time then too. Also had a lot of the video tapes of course to go with it-many of which I still have too now then today! Thank you too.

@2012GST - you're right, the copyright date is pretty conclusive. Looks like 1985. I wonder why I thought it was 1987? I'm not sure which tape it is on as the and it will be a few months before I can look at them again :)

Re, the date of this clip; well, the vid in the first few seconds states 1985 (at the end of the credits); it could have easily been a repeat for the past 2 years hence making Phil and Andy being here in 1987; that's my 2 cents :)

@steviegr - at most there will just be the opening titles and a minute or two. I never recorded the show, just a little bit when the video recorder was on timer for something else.

@doubledeckers 1987 would be when Andy Crane took over on a permanent basis (when Phillip Schofield went to Going Live), but he'd been deputising for Schofe for some time before that.

@2012GST - according to Wikipedia: "Crane succeeded Philip Schofield in 1987 as the in-vision continuity pesenter for CBBC". So why would he have been on screen in 1985? I don't have the tape to hand but if I labelled the clip 1987 then there would have been a good reason :)

@doubledeckers Andy would have been covering for Philip while he was away either on holiday, or filming some other programme (Take Two perhaps)?It was normal for the stand-in presenter to appear during the back end of the week before they took over in order to introduce them to the audience.

Definitely 1987. Gordon the Gopher was only introduced at the end of 1986 for a start, and Andy Crane did stand in but only in 1986/1987, NOT before.

It's 1987. The Newsround clip is Newsround Extra , not the regular newsround which were documentaries not the current news and it was a repeat from 1985. There's also a Thundercats drawing in the broom cupboard which wasn't shown in the UK in 1985. It was in 1987 though!

HELP!trying to find a kids TV show[UK] in 80's not a cartoon :was with this bald man[then in his 50's,Bushy eyebrows]] who would wear this yellow sort of overalls+when the opening credit's came on at the start his face+ the backround would appear on the screen going different colours from red to blue to green can you help driving me nuts I think it was on before Knighmare can you help!
