As a Jamaican I herd few people call it Malanga, but in my home (in Clarendon) as well as friends and market sellers called it Dasheen🙏🏿

Yes, I grew up knowing it as dasheen too!

Ackee, saltfish and ground provisions, it does not get much better than that! In cooking provisions I place in water first the ones that take longest to cook. Leave for awhile then the others placing last the one that cooks quickest. Cooking ends for all at the same time. Same result, different technique.

Exactly ... in the Bahamas I only saw and used the gray looking sweet potato. Now I just find the orange ones in the U.S.
@YardieBelly7 жыл бұрын
The orange potatoes make a great juice too. look for my video on potato juice.

Why you say you don’t want to eat a lot of the American sweet potato 🍠! It’s very healthy and full of vitamin c.

The first provision, Malanga(?).... been a Trini my whole life, eating callaloo my whole life. First TIME seeing or hearing about that provision. I ain't no Gordon Ramsey but I can certainly tell you we use DASHEEN leaves, not Malanga or Cocoa... unless it's the same thing and we all call it a different name... but, I know Jamaicans know about Dasheen, so I don't think that's the case. I only know the chocolate-making cocoa.
@YardieBelly3 жыл бұрын
We do use the same things but with different names! Malanga is the Spanish name for either coco or dasheen
@colinblack39417 жыл бұрын
I like this but, we call it coco, in the lovely, beautiful Jamaica

So do you just use water when cooking ? I was thinking half water and half broth for flavor
@YardieBelly5 жыл бұрын
you CAN BUT BECAUSE WE JUST USE THE GROUND PROVISIONS AS ACCOMPANIMENT TO THE MEAT WE DON'T FOCUS SO MUCH ENERGY ON FLAVORING IT
@LisaJJohnson5 жыл бұрын
Yardie Belly TV gotcha ! I’m going to try to make this dish ground provisions
@Cavellification5 жыл бұрын
Can ground provisions be cooked in coconut milk? and how this is done?
@YardieBelly5 жыл бұрын
Yes it can. There is a Caribbean recipe for that. it's called "Oil Down" I will make it real soon.
