What is the difference between using a prime 50 mm lens or using a 18-55mm lens set at 50mm? Will they take the same quality picture?
@PhillipMcCordall6 жыл бұрын
A prime lens is normally much better quality than a zoom lens. Although the real advantage of prime lenses is their capability of taking pictures in lower light levels as normally they will allow a wider stop. That all said I'm comparing lenses of the same quality level. A good zoom is better than a cheap old prime lens of from a bad manufacturer.

Cleaning lenses... s/o told me a long time ago to keep a UV filter on the lens to and then clean that the UV filter being essentially a neutral filter. Good idea?
@PhillipMcCordall8 жыл бұрын
I've never been keen on them, they can cause flare particularly at night, will drop image quality as well unless you have a very expensive one..

What is the difference between, for example, a 18-50 zoom lens that is zoomed to 35 mm and a 35 mm prime lens? Can you tell a difference?
@PhillipMcCordall8 жыл бұрын
. A 35mm prime will give the same image as a 35mm zoom but the quality will be better , the difference would be very difficult to see on flicker for example. Although on large prints it would be very noticeable

Great video, thank you very much Sir!I have a question please! What are the sharpest lenses for Canon aps-c cameras? ( Wide angle and up to 100 mm) Does it make sense to buy "L" lenses for crop sensors or are they to weak to fit the quality of "L" lenses? I want the maximum sharpness for landscapes and still-life pictures and I do use a tripod! Thank you and greetings from Luxemburg Sir!
@PhillipMcCordall8 жыл бұрын
No doubt about it L lenses are the best , they will last a lifetime which means whe you upgrade to a full frame they will still be great. I've an L lens that's almost 20 years old and it's as good as new. A good landscape lens is the Sigma f 3.5 10-20mm Mine is superb quality.

Thank you for your reply and advice Sir. I am going to check the Sigma, it looks interesting.
