I am still blown away by my headless GW2 Eart and it has become my go to guitar when ever I have spare time to play. I do think that I'm going to try a Seymore Duncans Hot Rodded humbucker set in it, not becuase I don't like the pups in it right now, but only becuase I happen to have a set I found for a great price.

Phillip, thank you so much for your first EART review. Because of you, I got an EART Tele, thinking I would remove the neck for a project guitar. But.... it seemed like a good guitar aside from the pickups, and it became a test bed to try Kinman "noiseless" pickups. The EART (with some action work) and Kinman combination was fantastic, worthy of any gig I ever played. That led to another EART (strat), and more Kinmans. Now, I have 5 EART's with various Kinman pickups, and they are as playable and enjoyable as my core PRS's.

Thanks - great review. At 8:37 you point out that they are not shielding the inside of the pickup cavity - but that looks like a shielded cable coming from inside the pickup's metal case, so I don't think additional shielding is necessary. They have shielded the control cavity, where there is plenty of unshielded wiring.

I'd just like to say how much I appreciate your no nonsense approach to sound testing guitars. Some reviewers run the signal through so much software they could stretch a fishing line across a wooden broom handle and it would sound like David Gilmour's live rig. Your method is much more realistic and useful.

The design of the bridge is also very impressive. Pinch points are elevated with contours to the form of the string making string break uncommon. I see no need to replace anything involving the bridge however it would hold tune with a trem routing and locking tuners.

I have an Eart E-3S that i bought as open box but never played. It was good out of the box, with no fret issues, but like this one it needed a setup to bring the action down to a comfortable height. Fingers crossed it is still good after two years in a very variable climate here in the UK. Eart make some good guitars, but like any brand some samples are not so great.

I totally agree with your initial impressions, I thought the same thing when I got my Explorer from them. The frets were the nicest of anything I had ever played, action was great. The problem is after about 6 months I picked the guitar up and suddenly I had dead notes all over the fretboard, quite literally 60% of the notes were suddenly dead out of nowhere. Being in the northeast it's not super uncommon for necks to move and it happens all the time with my other guitars so I checked relief and spot on. Saddles were good. I had used a fret rocker on it when I got it and everything was perfect across the board. To my surprise all of a sudden the fret rocker was tapdancing down the neck. I was like wtf happened? I had literally played it 2 days earlier and it was perfect. So I inspected further to figure out what was going on, looking at the neck from the side I could literally see daylight between the fret and the fretboard at the edges. Some on the bass side, some on the treble side, and some on both. Some of them were so high off the fretboard that I could slide 2 sheets of standard printer paper under it. I would guess that you are totally correct in how they do the hemispherical fret ends, I just happened to get one where the frets were either not properly secured when pressed in, or the neck twisted just enough to dislodge them but not enough to see just looking at it. I tried to use a fret hammer to re-seat them but to no avail, the frets would not stay down. A good fret press to do it myself is 60% of the cost of the guitar, and I'm sure it probably wouldn't be cheap to have a reputable Luthier fix it. I now have a guitar that any intermediate or pro player would deem unplayable. It's absolutely beautiful luckily, so at least it looks nice hanging on my wall. It's so frustrating, because it was genuinely incredible until this happened. I was in the process of filming and editing my first guitar review on it because I was so pleased with it. I ended up not posting it because all of what I said in the video would have no longer been accurate based on my experience. So it has hung on the wall for almost a year looking pretty. I'd be genuinely curious if others have had this happen to them as well, or if I was just unlucky lol.

I've had my Eart Explorer for exactly one year and so far the frets are fine. Some of my other Earts are older and they are fine, too. I'm hoping it remains that way, but it looks like you may have gotten one where they failed to glue in the frets. I live in Oregon and the weather is much milder here than where you live, so that may have something to do with it. I have a fret clamp, so I should be able to fix them if it happens. My Explorer is beautiful, too, and I'd hate to see anything happen to it.

@imnotthatguy4765
@imnotthatguy4765 Жыл бұрын
@@Miloshe71 Great question. Being outside of the return policy by 5 months, I felt it unreasonable to ask the company for the replacement. I've tossed around the idea of just posting the video with an addendum to discuss the issues and see if they reach out to amend the situation I'll know they are truly above and beyond. I did however find it interesting that they stopped selling the Explorer-1 on Amazon shortly after this happened so I couldn't even post a review on there, which would have maybe made a difference at that time. Being someone who has had generally terribly luck, I wouldn't be surprised if I just got a dud. I just want to make sure people are aware it does happen so if it happens to them they know it wasn't just them. Also felt this was a great platform to see if anyone else has faced the same problem.

The HB Fusion lll models with the Wilkinson term are about the same $399 price or even less. Now REVERB also has them with shipping included inside U.S. .Those are made in Indonesia are these Eart guitars Chinese or Indonesian ? , I know they are not Korean! Thanks for your work…

I have been through more guitars since getting "restarted playing" 4 years ago. Gibson Custom Shops, Fender Custom Shops and probably 30 others in between. My Eart "335" is hands down the best playing (and maybe sounding) guitar I have run across yet. It is what I pickup and feel like I can play anything on. Now on a PRS kick but this Eart 335 is staying with me. It is my always on a stand beside me guitar. Full disclosure, I also bought the Eart NK-C1 Tele. FANTASTIC quality and feel but it never grabbed me by the nuts like their 335 does. If I wasn't headlong into PRS now I would get one of these. Always love your vids! Thanks!

My ears perked up when you mentioned the tuner ratio, 21:1. More 'budget' tuners tend to have a lower ratio. (eg12:1). It also looked to have a nylon washer between the button and gear case, another good sign of better quality. Rounding and nipping fret ends is a great process improvement! Are they listening to us in these reviews? A big YES I'm thinking!! I'm a little like Phil in that I buy/save maybe even hoard pups!! LOL Also HQ parts! This one might be good enough to refit for gigging use!! I hope the US big_3 are paying attention!! Great review Phil!! I may have a go at this model!! 8) --gary

Great review of this guitar Phil. I have been looking at this model for a while and wanted to see a really good review of it. The weak link is the pickups. Thanks for revealing that. What would you suggest as replacement pickups for a blues-rock, jazz-rock player? This makes it more like a $550-$600 guitar. Would it be better to just go with Epiphone or perhaps Sire? There are many areas where the EART looks better in consistency and quality but at least the pickups would be OK with an Epiphone or Sire.

04/26/2023: I bought one in white, and I love it. The only thing that I would have liked more would be rolled edges on neck wood. Nope, the wood edge is not rolled as some people say it is. Also, the rounded "bullet shaped" fret wire ends actually hurt my first finger. The bullet shaped fret wire ends are too high (need to be angled downward like all other guitars). And, they are too bumpyish and thumpyish (are they real words?). Yup, I feel this painful bump/thump, bump/thump, bump/thump as my hand travels up/down neck. But, I can fix that with a jeweler's file myself. It will then be a great guitar matching the $1,000.00 guitars.

Another thing that improves a cheaper guitar's sound is upgrading the saddles. Most of them come with a very light saddle made of pot metal. For about 10 to 20 dollars, you can get solid brass machined saddles which add lots of sustain and reinforce the tone of the guitar.

First off,..I love your reviews! Great job! I just received a T-380 and agree with and love just about everything about this guitar. However, 2 things I noticed is that the bridge plate rested on the body, and did not free float. That was just a simple claw adjustment to make the bridge plate float parallel with the body and float smoothly. The thing that I find inexcusable is that the neck is very flat, borderline convex, and and even after loosening the truss rod Till it has no pressure on the neck, and put in a humidity controlled room at 50% humidity, it has not moved in a day. I even tried the old “put downward pressure on the neck physically” and it does not move or give at all. Needless to say, I’m going to return this one and have ordered a second one to see if there is any difference. I’ll let you know what happens. Q; Did you find that there was ZERO give to the neck? Do you feel it’s because it’s been “roasted” , finally does it feel like it came shipped with 10 gauge strings on it? Any feedback would be really appreciated. (I’m sure you have thousands of comments to read through) Sincerely, Mike
