I heard about an independent audio technician did an analysis on this amp and discovered it actually puts out 27 amps. Must be those dual 6l6’s that can’t be helped when juiced up. I bought two of these a couple of years ago. Great amp. Love setting up dual 212’s for that stereo environment for my Strymon’s on the clean channels.

Nice amp at an affordable price tag... which is probably one of the best decision from Mark Tremonti and not have an ego that get in the way in the race of the "most expensive signature amp" an artist could get. Because let's be honest, there's not 10x more components nor labor between in a J-MOD 100 than in a MT15!
@riffsnreviews
@riffsnreviews 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah this is a good move from PRS, it'll sell really well except if there's any major conception flaws, but I doubt it, yeah the only thing that costs 10x more in the j-mod is probably the transformers, the labor probably costs a fair amount more as well, but for sure the j-mod doesn't offer 10x more of an amp/tone, but when is that not the case on expensive gear ? But then high end quality comes with a high end price.

So, honest to goodness true story: got a friend that is Mark's cousin and had a chance to hang with Mark during his Cauterize tour with Trivium. Mark had the guts and she'll of what eventually became the MT15. Mark was super jazzed about it then, and that was 2 years ago. It was also a week before he took delivery on his PRS concept guitar. Mark is a cool cat and the real deal. Thanks Phil for this inside look, awesome vid. ("I ran out of room"...hilarious!!!).

It is an impressive sounding amp and the most complete thing you will find for the price. But in my opinion there should be some things updated. - Log Pot for Mastervolume! Makes it easier to dial in low volumes at the moment you acutally feel that the amp is at the end when master is at 50 % because of a linear pot. - The Amp sounds huge not only because of 6L6 Tubes but most likely because of the full reactance that is in the feedback loop. Please consider making it controllable in the back of the amp. It is way too boomy in the lowend especially with an open back V30 Cabinet. It would be so great having this controllable. The other benefit would be that the amp is getting a tiny bit more headroom. Dont get me wrong! It is a very nice amp! Everyone should have one :)

That comment he said about Harley Davidsons being detuned, he is 100% correct. Its only done this way because they need to pass emissions. Once you get an exhaust and intake, you can squeeze a hell lot more power out of them if you tune the bike on a dyno … & yeah that MT15 keeps up and is right up to par with my Archon 50W… unfortunately they sound and feel very similar.. or more importantly, you can make the Archon sound like the MT15, but you cant make the MT15 sound like the Archon. The difference is in the mid frequencies. MT15 is more scooped than the Archon

I always prefer the sound of 6L6 tubes over el34. EL34 have too much top end sizzle for me, I like the big bell like bottom end and clean headroom they have. I've converted most of my el34 amps to 6l6 because it just sounds better to me, and they seem to run cooler and last longer. Great video too Phill! I really would like to pick up one of these amps, sounds great for what I heard.

I think I'm one of the only customers who has it at the moment. Got mine in May. It's a fricken killer amp. And it's not a joke when we say it's loud. On 7 watts it's a struggle to keep it on home volume xD. The thing sounds huge though. Hopefully I'm gonna review it when I get my cab later this month :)

@insanegamer1992 6 жыл бұрын
Mason Laboski I've not had the chance to get out with it just yet, as I'm using a loaned cab until the matching cab comes in later this month. But I'm fairly confident you could EASILY play a bar, with barely touching the volume. Sometimes for home use, I run my Boss ME80 in the effects loop only because it has a master out to the cab and it keeps it at a reasonable volume and I can turn the amp up a little more. If you're concerned about getting over a kit, it should be the other way around. The kit should be concerned about getting over you xD It's definitely not TOO loud either. It really does everything well:)

The gain structure sounds a lot like a Krank rev jr, well the 20w Krank's with 2x6L6, the gain structure sounds dry and percussive, I've noticed the dry gain style on all the mt15 videos, I believe the dry gain has something to do with the low b+ plate voltage and high plate current on the tubes, as opposed to your standard higher plate voltage and lower plate current.

Love the amp, love the sound, but really hate the FX loop noise (as many of other owners) and there is still no solution for that. The led lights are too bright and a bit too gimmicky for my taste so I put a bit of gaffer tape over them, also swapped the knobs which feel awful and cheap. If anyone has a solution for the FX loop, please share.
@intrinsictube
@intrinsictube 2 жыл бұрын
Agreed. I tried swapping out the fx loop tube for a 12AU7 tube as some have noted, but it just reduced the volume. This does lower the noise but not in a real way. I think it is a ground loop causing the noise. I am going to try a few things. Will keep you posted

Its a free amp modeling program that you can use with solid state amp's . You can switch from Marshall stack to Fender Twin Reverb , Mesa Boogie ect. & so on . If you do a search on KZbin you can get a better explanation that's how I found it . Someone linked it to people who had bought a Boss Katana that's how I learned about it. You have to have a amp that has PC interface capabilities . Check it out its cool either way , there may be other ways to use it I'm still learning ??

PRS comes out with an amazing line of Amps and remembers what Doug says about Fender being the staples of Amps and Guitars from the same company........... Gibson then basically goes out and buys Mesa Boogie (RIP). So the companies with guitar amp pairs has grown loads. Fender + Jackson + Charvel + Gretsch + Fender Amps + EVH PRS + Sewell Gibson + Mesa (so sad) Friedman + Friedman Washburn + Randall Peavey + Peavey Warwick + Framus Kiesel + Kiesel (RIP) Anymore I wonder? One big player who could suit up with someone great would be Ibanez. If Ibanez bought Mesa that would have been amazing. Another player left on the market is MusicMan..... We shall see how the music landscape pans out.

There's going to be a fair amount of these showing up on reverb and eBay when owners realize that despite it's size, this is no bedroom or apartment amp. In most cases, even these 5-watt jobbers are simply too loud...ya gotta have a 1/4-watt to 1-watt option though I suppose an attenuator could solve that issue if the amp itself is simply too righteous to let go.
@CedricSatterfield
@CedricSatterfield 3 жыл бұрын
You can always build a box and put a resistor in there, and put it in the effects loop with a volume sweep. Easy project, or even premade one is only 30-40 bucks. MT15s have a serial efx loop so any number of Amazon pre-made passive attenuators will work- in the efx loop ONLY. For any readers not sure what I mean, a passive attenuator can't take a speaker load so you put the attenuator in the efx loop but still have the speaker hooked up. A passive attenuator is not a "silent solution". For that you need an amp with its own switchable load or an attenuator that is external (like a Suhr, or a Two Notes Captor, or a Weber, etc) that has a DI out or a speaker sim/headphone out. Otherwise all that voltage normally going to the speaker has no where to go and will toast your power section.
@Maxx61
@Maxx61 3 жыл бұрын
@@CedricSatterfield As you know, an effects loop attenuator is nothing more than another master volume. It won't push those bottle rockets.
@CedricSatterfield
@CedricSatterfield 3 жыл бұрын
@@Maxx61 Yeah, I know but if someone doesnt' have a volume pedal, sometimes these little boxes are a bit cheaper, and at least will make the volume more manageable until they can save up for a non-passive attenuator. When I didn't know as much I thought that volume attenuator all had to be expensive, but once I understood that at least for at home a passive one would work, I make sure to at least toss them out as an option to someone. Heck, even Bugera has a halfway decent active attenuator for around 100 bucks. I wouldn't trust it for gig use, but for a home player, it would work until they could afford something more robust.
@tragicallymalicious1
@tragicallymalicious1 2 жыл бұрын
You can put a volume pedal in the loop. You'll never "push" 2 6l6's hard enough to get power tube distortion at apartment or bedroom levels anyway. You always have to play as loud as possible to achieve that. The whole point of overpowering the amp is to offer as much clean headroom as possible before the power tubes break up.
@Maxx61

@riffsnreviews 6 жыл бұрын
Yeah you can generally go from 6v6 to 6l6, but not always the other way round, but you always should check your plate voltages and everything before hand and chose your tube accordingly, coz they don't all support the same plate voltages and all that, there's a lot of technical variations. Let's say you have to chose your tubes carefully, like if your going from a low watt 6l6 no problem as the plate voltages are low enough for 6v6s, but if you go from a 6l6 "standard powered 50w" to 6v6 you're going to need a 6v6 that can handle 450+v, the JJs and EHs can but they aren't really considered "real" 6v6s, more in common with a 6l6 than a 6v6. As for from 6v6 to 6l6 yeah, i'd probably chose sovteks, as they have the capacity of going to very high currents or 500v plate voltage which allows them to be used in pretty much any octal tube situation. And remember always respect the watt dissipation the amp is designed for.

It's probably around 320/350vdc plate voltage, so yeah a sovtek 5881/6L6 should work ok when biased correctly, somewhere around 45/50mA per tube for those plate voltages to get 20 ish watts. Obviously it all has to be biased properly, tested and measured before hand.

IS there any other company besides Fender that is respected for making guitars and amps that are considered equally great?

In my perception the Suhr brand is just not as well known as most others listed but guitars and amps are pretty much equal to me. Pete Thorn signature model amp for one.
