Be careful, the DJI fanboys might come after you! I had pre-ordered the DM2 and then canceled when I heard comparisons to the Rode Pro and thought it didn't sound as good. Call me crazy, but first and foremost a mic should be judged on sound quality and not all the ancillary features. On some other reviewer videos I had mentioned that I canceled the order and was going to stay with the Rode Pro and some people got all up in arms over that "It's 32 bit, sound quality doesn't matter when you can just eq it later and make it sound good and then you get all the features!" or.... and hear me out.... maybe I will just stay with a mic that I prefer the sound quality if because that is the #1 feature I care about. It's like some people just don't like how I chose to spend (or not spend!) my money. Never tried Hollyland, but I bought the Lark Max as a gift for my brother and he loved it. He might even like the M2 even more.
@PhillipSkraba10 ай бұрын
The Hollyland sounds fantastic, I think even DJI has to admit to that. The Rode Pro sounds incredible, used it a couple of times and it's superb. I'm not too bothered about the fan boys, I'm mean I'm a DJI drone fan boy but I'll tell them if they F up somewhere, like they did with the DJI Mic 2. They developed features before audio, which I think is a mistake. The whole point of a mic system is audio. 32-bit float is a cool safety net, but not one I actually ever use, though it could be beneficial in some use case scenarios.
@kneepayne10 ай бұрын
@@PhillipSkraba "They developed features before audio, which I think is a mistake" this is the best summary of the DM2. I love DJI in general. @@kneepayne I am big fan of DJI too, and I enjoy using their gimbals and drones, but they really should have put more effort into sound quality for the Mic 2, it's a shame really. The Lark M2, that seems like audio first.
@kneepayne10 ай бұрын
@@PhillipSkraba following up here. It turns out the sound quality issue was because by default there is a lo-cut filter enabled. I watched some other reviewers who initially butchered the DM2 in reviews retract their statements when testing it again with the filter turned off and it sounded much better. With that said, DJI needs to make matte covers for the mics. There is no good functional reason why a lav mic should be that distracting. I had the same issue with Rode but did find some matte covers which made a big difference in the visual aesthetics.

I was in an important call today and suddenly my Bose NC 700's mic gave up after 3 good long years of use. One of the attendees messaged me that I was sounding like I was talking from the depths of well. I took a pause from the meeting and immediately jumped for Lark M2. and let me tell you what a great decision it was. After the call the same person called me and said what Magic did you do as you were sounding like if you were using a studio mic. SO my friend! This is how good this M2 mic is. P.S I am still holding on to my DJI Mic 2 and haven't opened it yet as don't get time and thinking of returning it but will wait for DJI Lab Mice to arrive. Heard they sound great with DJI's own labs.

Have you ever done a side by side with movo? Say, like the movo duo mini? I use that and a power dewise lav; I know they are not the best but I would like to hear a comparison. It is the better budget option, not everyone can afford dji or the elite brands.

I’m afraid not, never tried it before. That’s true, it’s fairly costly for some.

Good video. I have the Lark M2 and it's great for use with a camera, mobile phone, and even with my MacBook Pro. It's a bit of an apples to oranges comparison with the DJI Mic 2. DJI Mic 2 customers may be more demanding for onboard recording and the ability to split the two transmitters into two channels even when recording via mobile phone. You can only do that with the Lark M2 when recording to camera via the camera receiver.

I've read you can use cable adapters to connect the camera receiver to an iPhone which allows for 2-channel recording. Basically, with an iPhone you do the following: iPhone -> Lightning port adapter -> TRS to TRRS cable -> Camera Version RX (Hollyland M2 receiver with the volume control knob). I haven't tried this myself, but others have noted that this works with the Lark M2 and an iPhone. Oh, and I think there is a setting on the camera receiver to choose between stereo and mono. I have no idea which one of those needs to be selected to enable 2-channel recording.

Lark M2 is way better 😬

It’s excellent, yes.

Would you rather get the Lark M2 or the Lark Max?
@PhillipSkraba10 ай бұрын
Well, it does cost an extra $100, but for that you're getting internal recording, the option to use a lav mic and a bit better build quality. If those are things you need, then sure, but for me the Lark M2 seems to do the job, and I really love the size of it. I'm guessing the Lark Max will have similar audio quality, which you can hear is very clear but full at the same time.

The HL M2 is actually quite nice! Even the noise reduction was not as tragic as in the case of DJI. However, I would love to see this microphone in action with the wind muff. M2 is the perfect solution for me because I record... while running. Therefore the weight + magnetic mount are key.
@PhillipSkraba10 ай бұрын
For running it’s perfect, small and compact, much lighter than the DJI. Yes, the NR is a lot less robot than what DJI have done.

Sent the DJI Mic 2 back to Amazon. Can't playback audio on a smartphone so it's useless. Gather that'll be a feature in DJI Mix 3. SHAME ON YOU DJI

It's a good mic, but it doesn't compare when it comes to sound quality to the Hollyland.
@petercofrancesco98129 ай бұрын
What I like most is the size, no logo and the adequate sound quality. I could see myself using it for behind the scenes or quick reaction stuff where ppl don't want to be laved up. I agree the noise canceling is terrible. Only downside I could foresee is wifi interference (without internal rec. backup) and longevity of non replaceable batteries.

I would also recommend giving a try to Hohem Mic-01. Another amazing Mic , focused toward mobile videographers but still great utility mic. Could be used with DJI Action 4 and DJI Pocket 3 and sounds great. + point. Has the ability to record audio on board the mic and uses a MicroSD Card.

The Hohem? Hohem has been innovating hard recently, they make pretty cool products.

I have Lark M2 it sounds good. And hopefully DJI mic transmitter will get it by tomorrow for pocket 3. But M2 is way better than DJI. However DJI is more flexible to use

The Hollywood Lark M2 does sound a lot better than the DJI Mic 2, I really don’t get what DJI did wrong. Well, good on Hollyland anyway 🤘🏻

The DJ or the DJI, as I'm normally the DJI in my household!

I've been using the Lark M2 for a month now, having switched to that from the first generation dji, which I still have. I much prefer the sound and flexibility of the Hollyland. I did my own review on my channel when I first got the Lark and haven't changed my view that it's the best 'plug-and-play' mic for traveling vloggers like me.

Fantastic audio quality from the Hollyland Lark M2 , this proves that you don't necessarily need the most expensive. Great review Phillip 👍

Yes, I totally agree!! Hollyland did a great job with the audio quality on this mic, I'm positively taken back.

Great job on your demonstration Phillip! I was thinking of getting the DJI Mic 2 mainly for the 32bit float, but now I'm leaning more towards the Hollyland M2 because it just sounds way better!!

Hollyland for amateurs. If you make money from your gear DJI. Simples.

Well, if it’s between those two, yes. In reality though, it’s rare a pro would choose DJI for a mic. Simples 🙄

The holly mark sounds so much better and the dji even seemed to clip some without NR. I hope dji fixes that stuff. Personally I still lean toward the features of the dji, but I’m not doing pro audio either. Great video though, not just straight commercials and fanboys like most of the dji mic 2 videos.
@PhillipSkraba10 ай бұрын
I'm surprised at just how bad the DJI NR is, I don't like using it anyway, but Hollyland has much better NR, and Saramonic has great NR too. Maybe DJI needs some more time and maybe when the Mic 3 comes out the audio will be much better as I don't know if they can fix all this in an update or two. Thanks!
