i love these old shoe box fords! my first car was a '50 ford. i bought in 1973 for $135.00 when i was 15. it was a 6 cylender car. but previous owner had put a late 60s v8 truck mototr in it. he was gonna make a circle track car out of it. but discovered it was too solid to just beat up that way. and sold it to me. i drove it for a few years. what a beauty you have there. thanks

My dad bought a new Hawaiian bronze '50 in late '49 for $1,610 at Bob Ford in Dearborn Michigan. A lot of WW2 vets treated themselves to a new car back then and he was one of them. Due to high demand, labor strikes causing no production and inflation (price gouging) the '46-'48s were tough to get. By '49 cars became more available. It seemed like everyone in our large family of Aunts and Uncles bought a new '49 or '50 model car. Someone hotwired Dad's '50 when he was at work on Merritt & Junction in Detroit and went joy riding with it. The cops found the car and it never ran the same. He traded it in on a new '55 Ford Fairlane. Great memory of the first nice, new car our family had.

My family bought their first new car, a '51 Ford, basically the same as the '50, for $1,650! In just a few weeks, someone stole the distinctive Ford hood emblem, which was never replaced! It was supposed to be my first car, when I reached driving age, but only lasted until 1960, when I was 14! Too bad!

Man! Thats cool! You can find an old flathead engine for it. Ive always loved the 1940 Ford business coupe. I coulda had a 40 awhile back but they wanted 20 thousand for it. Worth every penny. But I just bought my house and had 3 kids to take care of .So that was that! Lol!

In 1968 I purchased a 1949 Ford Business coupe for the sum of $150.00! It had great paint and body with a Flathead 8. I got rid of it in 1969 because it developed a cracked block and was throwing coolant out the exhaust. Often I would grind the starter not realizing it was running, it was that quiet, Great find sir!

What a great find.Those doors close better than my Tahoe. '49s were more prone to rust than a '50, so it makes it even a nicer find to be a rust free '49. So CQQL! I love your da's stories from back when. My dad had a lift like that when I was a kid.

I love the '49 Ford and Mercury the best. The front ends were cleaner and purer than the '50. Ford really created a winner with that design.
@davemckolanis46832 жыл бұрын
Actually, The Mercury Was Suppose To Be The Post WWII 1949 FORD Car. But The Company Executives Felt That It Was Too Large And Too Heavy, Resulting In A Higher Pricetag. So They Went Back To The Drawing Boards And Came Up With The Bullet Grille Cheaper Ford. That's Likely Why The Mercury Still Had A Humpy Type Hood, And Shared The Body Style With A Less Expensive Lincoln, As An In-between Model Selection, While The Ford Hood Is FLAT Across. I Have The August-September "Special Interest Autos" Edition From 1972, That Shows The Design Prototypes Of The Post War Mercury That Began Soon After The War Ended. And Which Designers Final Concept Won Out. The Mercury Had A Slightly More Powerful Engine With A Longer Throw Crankshaft To Drag Around The Extra Weight Of The Car. But Both Still Had Block Heat Risks With The Center Cylinders Sharing The Same Exhaust Outlet INSIDE The Engine Block. And The Hood On The Mercury Has Springs To Hold It Open, Where As The Ford Used A Prop Rod Instead. There Were Other Improvements That The Mercury Had Over The Ford, But BOTH OF THEM Are Favorites For Old School Guys Like Me. However For The 1950 Mercury That I Have; After I Bought The Car I Had Restored And Installed A 1949 Mercury Dashboard, That Had ROUND Gauges Instead Of The Sweep Type Gauge Dashboard The Car Came With. Not Only Does It Look Nicer, But I Was Able To Install The Modern ROUND 12-volt Gauges Inside The Gauge Holes To Eliminate The Old 6-volt Ones. Instead Of Mounting The Newer 12-Volt Gauges UNDER The 1950 Dash.

@@phillipsrundripbubblecompa9232 One big hurdle with a Ford V-8, is the the front dump, so you'll have to source a rear sump oil pan. I've heard Broncos had them. Also, the oil-pump,and pick-up, will be at the wrong end. All that nonsense made me go to a small-block Chevy in my 51 Ford Custom, as the sump was in the rear.

Sadly soon all combustion cars including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-( In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025 on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime.!!!! (BABBVEN LAWS AND TEBBVEN ORDERS)!!!!!

The Goofy Idiots want to do all this while they don't even have enough electricity for homes & business right now! So with all gas cars gone how do they think they will charge these electric cars? Down the road they might get the technology but right now they can't even supply some areas with enough electricity without all cars being electric! So they are dreaming!
