My friend used a stop leak for his radiator on a 2008 Buick Lucerne same brand, Blue Devil, i had no expectation that it woukd work. While the engine was running steam was coming out of the driver side of the radiator. He let it idle for a while and then drove it for a couple of hours........it worked, doesn't leak a drop now. 4-18-24 update, it started leaking again after a month or so.

If your about to sell car for scrap, might as well try at least cheap version of this stuff. Works best on Toyota for some reason or smaller engines. The first car i did this to a Corolla was blowing crazy white clouds. It eventually worked and put another 150k on car before something else went. I also had success on a toyota 4 runner v6. I tried on 3 American cars with v8 engines and didn't even help even a little. I think they create too much pressure!Actually made it worse and some types gets messy. You can clean out when doing head gaskets. Most importantly gotta take thermostat out, let it heat up to normal temps, let cool all the way down, repeat up to 10 times if it gets better each time. I had a equinox head gasket start to repair but ultimately didnt hold up because of type of gasket failure. That failure was allowing hot exhaust gases in the coolant. It was just too much pressure for it to handle. Had to just fix the right way. If you got a 4 banger or a inline 6 just read a manual and fix right! Their not near as hard to do as a v6 or v8 with two heads. Even if only one side blows, do both head gaskets. Always check heads if their warped. Get milled if they are. Some places will do for 50 a head, other places want around 100 a head but if you do this extra step it will help make a better seal! I do think if you have a nice car, you should just fix the right way! If your in a beater trying to get every last mile out of it before junkyard , i say go for it!

I used Bar's Leak Head Gasket Sealer with Graphite in my '88 Chevy work van in 2011 after I found bubbles in the radiator coolant and steam coming out of the exhaust. Had four spark plugs that were covered with combustion deposits steam cleaned from their combustion chambers. Installed 4 new plugs set inside nonfoul adaptors before using the product. It's added to the coolant so left it in for 6 years. Changed the coolant to end up giving the engine a second Bar's Leak treatment. The first treatment held up for 15,000 miles. The second treatment lasted 20,000 miles. Drained that out in 2022 then barely drove the van for the next two years. Took it out on the interstate for an Italian tune-up which created another head gasket leak a few days later. Fixed some other issues that arose from the high speed run before adding the product by pouring the contents inside the upper radiator hose. The engine problems returned after pouring that in so the product is stuck inside the radiator. I poured some out into a container to ensure none would spill out of the radiator hose when set back in place. Emptied the container into the radiator after siphoning out some coolant so check out the dried residue. It was a white film that crumbled up easily and dissolved when mixed with water. It should mix in well once I get this engine running again. This is stuff works and is much cheaper plus easier than tearing the engine apart to replace the head gaskets

But then (wasn't keeping track of the mileage) one morning, the level hadn't changed. Then a few mornings later (I check every morning) the coolant level was touching the cap. But do what you gotta do lol. But I’d recommend for the 5.7 or bigger don’t let it get to this point. Do little things to keep your engine cool if you got a heavy foot like me if I drive more then a hour in summer when I get home I always open the hood let the heat out let the vehicle sit in park for 1-3 mins before you turn the engine off and the last thing I do is turn the key to on and turn the heat up on the floor. Engine still off and let the heat blow out the floor vents for couple mins. Trust me it helps the plan is to prevent blown head gaskets is why I do what I do

Beware this can ruin your water pump. I believe you should take out the thermostat. Used last night. Customer brought to me. I poured it in very slowly. Same as you. Idle for 50 minutes. Started to leak at water pump and started to over heat. Why would it make a leak? If it is to stop leaks. Smh I believe it fixed the head gasket. But it made another problem. Now the waterpump is leaking. Vehicle has no heat. Car had no coolant leaks. Just oil getting into the coolant. Did it exactly as you described. I did notice it hardens up like a rock. I believe it got caught in the water pump. Brand new water pump also. I dont see oil getting into coolant. So it took 1200 job turned it into a 350 job. I hope its not temporary.

I rather be real about it. Take it to the shop and get the heads taken off, get it hot tanked, buy new Manley valves, check valve seats, get a three angle valve job, get the heads ported, polished, port matched then , look at the block, make sure the pistons are good, piston rings are good and make sure the surface of the block is not warped and check the edges. New Fel Pro gaskets and thats it. Your choice to keep the stock exhaust manifolds or buy headers but i rather save the trouble and keep stock exhaust manifolds especially if its a regular daily driver.
