After looking at the matchbook, it was required that we started on 0 with our elevation turret! That's the reason why I held over starting with target number! Which brings me to my second comment that I always zero my rifle at 100 yards. Mainly because its convenient but also when going to confirm my zero at a match, they MD's will only ever have 100 yards to confirm. Thanks!

Being a left handed shooter i will absolutely agree get a left handed rifle. I argue this with a buddy of mine thats a fellow southpaw all the time he says oh well i just use my support hand and my firing hand stays on the grip i said yeah but while you're readjusting your support hand ive already sent my 2nd round😊

What would you recommend for a shooter like myself who is left-eye dominant, but shoots right handed? I’ve shot right handed my whole life so it’s definitely a challenge to practice weak side but I still do it. Do you think the advantage using my dominant eye justifies going to a left-handed action?

Nice observations, the one question I have is why in the world wasn't your 323 yd shot, much much closer to the center of the reticle. Every time I have set up for long range shooting. I have always zeroed the rifle out to about 250 to 300 yd. I try and get it as close to zero at 275 as I can. In this situation, if I knew that 320 yards was going to be my first shot I would have zeroed it for probably close to 400. You even your farthest shot is not at the transonic change because I don't think that that bullet is going to go transonic till you get to about 900 yards so that shouldn't even be an issue. I know that there are guys who do operations who don't like the Christmas tree reticle. But I like it. Because I like opening the bolt and leaving it open Between shots period I found that that helps the barrel to stabilize how much quicker. My very first time I started shooting Precision rifle. Was not with a Precision rifle. It was with a Ruger Model 77 7 mmhg with a 26-inch really thin barrel. And I paid 20 rounds into a hole that was no larger than 0.33 inches. I did that twice the first day that I fired the rounds that I had loaded. 140 grain Spire Point Sierra. And it literally fired a group that was Center Center spread of 0.046 in. That was in 1979 and I haven't looked back I did sell that rifle to a man who wanted to use it for some moderate to long-range game hunting. And I gave him my original targets and I gave him 20 rounds of already loaded ammo that I had made up for that rifle I think I had only fired less than 70 rounds out of it when I sold it to him. But he paid $200 more than my total investiture for the rifle, scope, everything. And it was a 3 to 9 Redfield Widefield scope. Not a Precision scope by any stretch.

Why not zero for 300 before the start and hold over for the rest? I know this was a holdover stage but I assume you were allowed to make an adjustment before the start? I'm quicker when using less of a hold and not searching deep into the reticle.
@lateralus19722 ай бұрын
Who down with ADD, yeah you know me. 😋Phil did you commit your holdovers to memory or did you have them written down on the back of the triggercam on a little sticker? I'm pretty good with numbers but I could see myself forgetting in the heat of the moment, that would really suck!

@@Longrange1760 you can start with your scope dialed to what ever you want. Just can’t adjust after. Typically we have the first target dialed and then the hold overs are less. For the rest.

@@InfamousTacticalyeah I know that portion, I just assumed you had to zero your turrets and do all the holdovers because he didn’t. 😂 I only like to hold over wind if I can help it as I don’t have a good reticle to do both.

My right eye doesn't work these days, so I don't actually have a strong side any more. Can't see the scope, much less thru it. I may be delusional, but I'm not ready to give up on right handed rifles
@Tincat6712 ай бұрын
Skyloading is inherent to shooting support side. Your hand can't be in two places at once - closing the bolt and supporting the rear of the rifle. I'm left-handed and have seen plenty of lefty's running right-handed guns, and they are arguably skyloading every shot. It's just something everyone (shooter, RO, observers) needs to remain vigilant of.

Something that's crazy to me as I see a lot of guys run their 4 to 20s or 3 - 18 on 10x but then the same guys give me grief for just running a straight 10x
@MasterEngraverTV2 ай бұрын
You run what works for you, and there’s a heck of a lot less to go wrong with a straight 10. I love my high power scopes but I also appreciate the simplicity of a setup like yours.
@clintivy6232 ай бұрын
Pros and cons to everything. If you ever need the extra, you have it. Also sometimes the image at 10x of a 3-18 will look better than 10x on a 10x max power scope. Yours is probably lighter though. Just food for thought. Bruiser industries has some good info on that aspect too.
