Whenever I'm struggling to unpack my university readings (currently Canguilhem & Bergson on Vitalism) I come and listen to Philosophize This and then start to get my head around it! Much gratitude!

I wonder how my child self would have reacted if knew that I one day will scream of joy for a video of dude taking 25min about Bergson.

Thank you! You helped me understand Bergson's time concept. I'm at the last 50 pages of Proust's Remembrance. Your examples and explanation were so clear.

Binge watched the $h!t out of you over the last month. This channel is one of the most underrated/underapprecitated on all of youtube. I made a video on my channel that mentions the limitless benefits of binge watching the best educational materials online, and mentioned this channel big time. May the fly of happiness pee in your coffee Sir.

I wish more people would discover this great show. Not many who succeed in making their subject matter as interesting as this. Very thankful that it exists.

Steven, good to see you're still releasing content. Big fan of your style/summaries of sometimes quite complex readings. Keep it up!

I haven't heard this episode yet, because I didn't want to "skip ahead". I'd listened to a few random episodes of special interest to me, and realised that I enjoyed everything more when heard in continuity But anyway, I wanted to leave a comment, thanking you for what you do. It has enriched my life, and made me consider so many different worldviews as I navigate my everyday. Above all, it made me a much humbler and more appreciative person. I'm currently at episode #54, and will be on to the Kant series next (mad excited!). My absolute favourite so far is still the Hellenistic ages. Can't wait to catch up!!

Received my first government artist grant to create a sound/sculpture piece informed by Bergson. Love listening to these when my brain is tired of the academic jargon and unnecessary descriptors. Ohhh the institution ..

Thanks! I'm an adjunct Phil Prof and I really enjoy your videos. While Dennett has a take on laughter counter, I always preferred the idea that laughter functions like a captcha, social cohesion through the acknowledgement of intersubjectivity. As dynamic beings we can see the holes.

This process vs mechanism is similar to what Alan Watts talks about with boxes vs wiggles. He goes on to say that the world is not made like at a factory but it is grown like an organism.

I don't like this theory of laughter, or the superiority one 😫. Maybe laughter is more about relief. The temporary relief of freedom when certain rules, ways of thinking or illusions are broken unexpectedly. The relief that a potentially dangerous situation isn't as serious as it could be. The relief that you were fooled in a safe way. The relief that nobody is perfect. The relief of perceiving things less seriously.
