This episode was fantastic. It really explains to me what has happened to Rock Music over the years. It is not the level of creativity & originality it was in the 60's, 70's & even 80's. It's like what happened to the novel that Benjamin goes into. People don't actually stop and listen to music like they once did. We would once put on an LP and actually sit and listen to the music only. Music is now more of just background noise.

Hi it's me again, please do more videos, I got from episode 30ish to 70ish now and I fear I will come short on episodes yet, we need more mr West :D just kidding, thanks for your knowledge I'm so glad youtube and Steven exists to learn about philosophy in traffic jams in a chronological manner. IDK why so few people listen to this show, it's worth so much more, I will, for sure, redirect any curious people to that show, it's amazing 👍

First of all, many thanks for the great content. I'm a philosophy instructor and a long time fan. Secondly, would you consider an episode about Roberto Esposito (eg "Immunitas), as he seems to be relevant to the post-Covid political scenery?

Thank you for your so very insightful take on this brilliant vanguard. I'm coincidentally just past the notes (A-Z) of Benjamins Arcade Project (& about to read the most final draft (a- ) of his actual composition. I humbly ask if you could cover the "WISH" (DIALECTICAL) IMAGE which seems omnipresent in that (never completed) opus, Arcades Project

I loved this podcast, but one little point I'd like to make. I've lived in Germany for 50 years and I speak fluent German. I realize that you think the letter "J" is pronounced like an "H" (like Spanish). No, German is a different language. Perhaps you know the German word for yes: "YA", that is how you pronounce Benjamin. Ben-ya-min. Real easy! :-) I live 20 minutes from Frankfort so if you're ever over here, we can have a beer and a bratwurst. Ya? Keep up the great work!

I wonder what Benjamin would think of art forms that were born from photography and the like, such as photographic art, cinema and music albums...? All of the above definitely contain stunning (at least immanent-feeling) art very far from the Marvel-esque mass culture.
@070spacecowboy3 жыл бұрын
The Irony of the video is the fact that the KZbin video of explanation of a work is also a mass mechanistic reproduction of the real work which also makes it a demystified version of the real work and that comes with a lost of the real work’s aura…. No disrespect though, its a good video ✌🏿
@hillbillyhippy3 жыл бұрын
Great episode. I would take issue with Benjamin's statements about art. I would say that of course artists create art with the audience in mind. Did Michelangelo sculpt David or Steinbeck write without considering who was consuming it? Take your podcast for example, do you not think about what your audience is interested in listening to before you put in all the work of producing one episode. Not a criticism of the episode, just trying to start a conversation.

He was German so his surname should be pronounced Benyameen, not Benhameen. I am guessing that as an american you are being influenced by your knowledge of spanish which is the language most US english speakers learn as their second language in school.
