@OgMasterCuz so by your own definition, infertile women aren't women. Also, intersex people exist as well. @emmad4308
@emmad4308 4 жыл бұрын
@OG Master Cuz 2 I can assure you, trans people are painfully aware of the difference between sex and gender, it's in the name. Hence as you said, definition of gender has changed, as words do. Not going to lie, I am having trouble putting into words to explain to you that what you are doing isn't helpful, but I'm gonna try my best. If someone wants to identify as a woman, just respect that, because that's the gender identity that makes them feel more like the best version of themselves. You going BUT WOMAN IS LINKED WITH BIOLOGICAL SEX YADA is not being helpful. Again, trans people are painfully aware of sex and gender, and what they feel they are doesn't line up with the body that they have. From my understanding, gender is more to do with social norms and whatnot; not personality. I understand wanting things to be clearly defined (I'm autistic) but not at the expense of someone's mental wellbeing. Being overly pedantic about the meaning of words ultimately doesn't help anyone, and makes you look like a bit of a bellend.

They're men, athletes, models, brilliant in every conceivable way, as men. Is there a single man there, whose manhood you question? The folks arguing that tranwomen must be kept out of women's restrooms, forget this coin has two sides? Would you force the the black gentleman in the Jockeys to use a women's restroom because of his birth? Would you have any of these men in a women's restroom? See, this is the insanity of not simply taking each case on its own merits. Making knee jerk blanket laws has shocking repercussions if you're not paying attention to all the angles.
@annemarietobias
@annemarietobias 3 жыл бұрын
@@lawrenceacosta8644 You were asking about transmen... Abigail is a transwoman. Two different things. No Abby's not a dude. Let me help you out here; Everyone begins life female. At about week 7, if you have a Y chromosome, the single gene that makes a male, male gets activated and among other things starts a flood of testosterone. It is the presence of that male hormone that makes the embryo then fetus develop as male. In the first trimester, the embryo develops male reproductive organs. In the third trimester the brain become hardwired as male. If for any reason the testosterone should fail, in the first trimester, the sex organs remain partly or completely female. We call that condition intersexed. If the hormone fails in the third trimester the brain remains partly or completely female and we call that a transsexual. So a male to female transsexual who has gone through hormone replacement, and reconstructive surgery, is not a dude. Not metabolically, not physically, not socially, and not behaviorally.

This means you think part of this message is not genuine, as she speaks as an enthusiastic supporter of trans rights. I think her point was she wants to do it to help liberate herself and reverse the recent worrying trend of right-wingers suppressing trans rights in the UK. I must admit, that this is very surprising for me. I ironically thought of her as a good rolemodel for healthy masculinity. Well, it's probably not surprising that healthy masculinity means beeing comfortable not portraying a stereotypical male character and well as a trans woman, she obviously is.
@Guanglai_Kangyiii
@Guanglai_Kangyiii 4 жыл бұрын
She definitely inspired a lot of us in our reconciliation with masculinity, and imagine how amazing it is that many men who watched her videos on such topics when she still wasn't out and took her as a role model are now being proven that said role model (specifically, one that inspires you to be as healthy as possible as a man) can be anyone, not only another man. I'd say it makes the whole thing even better: men and masculine people being invited to think and reconsider their perception of masculinity by a trans woman, who would end up making them feel more comfortable in their skin. To anyone who considered Abi an example of healthy masculinity... That doesn't have to change at all. She still was there for us, talked to us about her experience and masculinity and femininity are constructs anyway. It's not like we suddenly can't take a woman as an example of healthy masculinity, because masculinity and femininity are relative anyway. If we're talking about a trans woman, too, we need to keep in mind that they especially find themselves in a situation in which they _need_ to deal with masculinity, with expectations, with "acting it out", so Abigail's message still persists and her experiences and struggles as an AMAB person are still something we can all take from to make ourselves stronger - she shared it with us, it's the least we can do.

I am honeslty jealous of her. There are some "Male" esk things I feel vaguely nostalgic about, I struggle to give up. Certain behaviours, I have kept, in part because I hope to do what she did. Lessons I would have given my younger self, when I was in the closet. I wanted to bridge those gaps, tell guys there are other ways. Yet, you guys have already nailed it on the head. She did give you as much of that as she could, for as long as she could play that masculine role. And I am sure, the best way to pay her back? TEACH YOUR FELLOW LADS WHAT SHE TAUGHT YOU ♡ Spread it around. Instead of being jealous, I hope to do my best to do the same. Show them there are alternatives. Show them we can create new things, that we can change. Be there for others how she was for you, be there for each other. And that shit can change the world, fellas. I may have changed myself, with my transiton journey. But just by being herself, Abby could change the world. It's the same kind of magic Hbomber guy talked about. It may seem silly, but. We need some of that right now. Go, and support others like she supported you. Support trans folks, and each other, as she looked out for you. Sorry if I am ranting. I am just super happy for her. And proud of you all ♡

I think healthy masculinity applies to everyone regardless of their gender identity or biological sex. As a mostly cis woman, I think I too have bought into toxic masculinity and internalized misogyny when I was younger.
@perchy22
@perchy22 4 жыл бұрын
I have to say that the "healthy" part of healthy masculinity doesn't have much to do with masculinity, and more to do with just being a decent and ethical person, who happens to be masculine in this case. We need things like compassion and understanding to be core values for people and society as a whole, and these are not gendered. Also, the portrayal of a role model can be just that, a portrayal. I knew "Oliver" was an act, I didn't realize how far that act went. I don't think, though, that the character that Abigail created is any less worth being a role model for being a fictional character. While we're on the topic of good role models, I feel the need to mention that I think Abigail is a good role model, too.

From my position of privilege, I had honestly never even considered the fact that cis people can get HRT with so many fewer barriers than trans/NB people. It always seemed so simple to me, "well they've got to be sure", "we don't want to medicate on a whim", but this made me realise I should really question that attitude if I still support cis people getting HRT so easily.

and that also goes for gender affirming surgeries. Like here in Italy I (a trans man) have to ask permission to a judge (after a lengthy and heavily medicalised process) to have top surgery while a cis woman can have breast reconstruction surgery covered by the state (as she should) without any of that. Both of those surgeries are gender affirming but one requires you be stripped of all of your agency to get it. And don't get me started on the fact that it's easier to undergo elective plastic surgery than to get gender affirming care.
@gferraro2916
@gferraro2916 Жыл бұрын
@@subs4794 I agree there should be an in depth explanation of all of that, but what about a tribunal of law is helping achieve that? Why should I have to wait at least an year just to "make sure I'm sure" when I'm an adult fully capable of facing the consequences of my actions, but a cis person can schedule an elective surgery for next month? Can you se the obvious double standard? Also gender affirming care for cis and trans people is not the same as cosmetoc surgery: a cis woman getting breast reconstruction after a mastectomy for cancer is not the same as someone getting a breat augmentation for aesthetic puroposes and they shouldn't be treated the same. Informed consent practices apply to both but that's about all the similarities between the two.

I was going to write a much longer comment, I think for the sake of not coming across as if I'm virtue signalling I will keep it short. Regardless of your family, there is a community that is loving, welcoming and occasionally toxic as fuck so we'll make a more than suitable substitute, at least until your family learn to accept you for who you are. That being said do not come out to your family if it is going to put you in danger. If you are a teen or still live at home, do not risk being kicked out onto the street and do not risk coming out if your family are violently inclined against LGBTQ+ people. Its difficult to do this when your own identity is not the one you are known by but, your health and safety should be your priority. You will have time in your life to come out and have people recognise you for the person you are, do this when it is right for you.

Someone else has already brought up safety so I'll say something I wish I had been told. It might not go the way you think - for good or ill or just sort of neutral. It might take time for them to get it. As of now I am in the middle of the conversation myself (that is, my folks kinda get it but also kinda don't). You might need time away from them while they deal with it. There is a community there for you in the meantime and a world out there of people who will love you as you are. Best of luck!

I’m absolutely not invalidating your identity :. I’m just contextualizing. Your family is using another set of criteria to communicate with you. You use one (gender), they use another one (sex). That’s it. No evil here. It’s not because they are referring to your sex that they are denying your identity. And it’s not because I’m explaining that to you that I am denying your identity! I don’t see how warning about gender theory is being offensive. Gender theory reinforces stereotypes, stereotypes that make people transition in the first place. So yeah maybe, in the current society, at an individual level it’s freeing to say you’re neither a woman nor a man when you are a female. But at the group level (man and woman/male and female) it’s alienating and making the current system stronger. By supporting gender theory you are not fighting the system you are just playing along with it. Btw, if you think that what I’m saying is making nonsense like you suggesting in your comment, please feel free to ask me any question, I’m open to discussion :)

There were several people i worked with that taught me so much about gender issues and how people feel than I even knew about. And i am a gay man who thought i understood all of it well. I learned that i still dont totally understand it all but I will gladly like to hear peoples story and i support them. I think the more accepted that it becomes the more we will learn that people have these feelings inside. Similar to how everyone seems to be gay these days where when I was in school there were only a few gay kids. (and oddly i was bullied by them lol)

I cannot even imagine how hard it is to transition in such a public position. I've heard Contra/Natalie talk about it before so I do understand it takes a lot of bravery and strength. I think it's super admirable. Congratulations, I hope for every mean comment you get ten better, supportive ones!!

Good for you, do what makes you happy. Thanks for mentioning the Suffragettes. Emily Wilding Davison goes down in history as a heroine who gave her life for her political activism. To thine oneself be true is a beautiful statement. And remember those poets mentioned who fought in the utter hell of WWI trench warfare, Siegfried Sassoon who wrote and lived and Wilfred Owen who wrote the famous Dulce et Decorum est, one of my favourite poems, who died at 25 a week before the Armistice. Perhaps be mindful that your cause is important but avoid comparing it to soldiers who fought and died in Gallipoli, the Somme, Ypres and all of the other well known areas fought for in WWI, it’s a vastly different struggle.

@Yeetus debeetus Talking from experience there? Because if not, how about you don't claim it's "very easy to do" when every single trans woman in the public eye who I've heard commenting on this says the opposite?

@OgMasterCuz The definitions of words are malleable. Just because a word is defined one way in a specific dictionary doesn't mean that trans people are claiming to fit that definition. There is nothing "scientific" or "unscientific" about slightly altering the meaning of a word in everyday use. On top of that the fact that being trans isn't a choice is supported by science.

You're instantly iconic, Abby, im sure you know already since you experienced much what I have, but this video brought me to tears, your coming out video brought words to feelings i have never been able to fully convey, accurate in a way only someone who has experienced it can feel resonating in their bones, every word a strike on the soul, feeling like the voicing of them can lift away the confusion temporarily.. I cant wait for the world to accept us, you are incredible, thank you for standing up for our community, we all love and support you!!! Sincerely, and from the deepest pits of my conscious, a trans man.
