Whilst the salaries look great and all, it comes at the cost of hours worked. The salary per hour (salary/total hours worked) for analysts is around £20/hour, which is still decent but doesn’t sound nearly as glamorous as £50000 a year. I think it depends on how you wanna balance work/free time, me personally I could never spend that many hours working so Im not considering IB. What were your working hours like?

Hey - thank you. I do try to be as transparent as possible. And yes you're right, going to a good uni isn't as important as it once was - but obviously it still does really help. Save money, (so don't spend on stuff you don't have to) - live at home if you can. Invest a lot of your savings if you have found something worth investing in (shares/watches/property - something you're educated in). Or go hard and set up your own business - this is the real way to become wealthy

can confirm it's on the money in terms of numbers for the basic salary. Bonus was a little on the optimistic side. We now have them capped as a lower max percentage of salary basically until managing director. I would say the figures here were basic plus 1/2 of the bonus figures quoted

Hey, im interesting in getting into finance but I'm wondering what sort of degrees would work? Would I be able to get in with any STEM degree? And how much would I realistically be getting in the first few years? And what is the work like, is it intense or more relaxed? Thanks a lot

Work as a trader in London, VP. The numbers are pretty spot on for salary. With regards to bonus its usually 1.4x salary from ASO level up - give or take. As you get to director level you are usually capped at 2.0x salary for bonus (regulatory requirement). The key point you touched on ....alot is not cash but shares which are deferred for years.

Hmm I work for an investment bank in back office and have friends who work in front office and none of us get ANYTHING as near to those saleries. A MANAGER earns about 40-60K a year as basic salary. I am an analyst level in back office in my 2nd year and I'm on 22K basic salary with a 1.5K bonus.

My mindset is the opposite of yours right now. I work as a design engineer in construction. Went into it after finishing my masters degree because I loved it. But now it's getting monotonous and doesn't pay so well. I regret not going into a more lucrative career like banking.

Worked for virgin media sales at 21 to 23 made about £50k per year. Then worked for Lloyd’s from 23 to 24 in a rectification project and made £65k. Now I’m learning to trade/invest lol - but have rental income coming in as I invested wisely at 22. Sales is so underrated and people look down at it but without sales I won’t be where I am now - it’s a gem 💎

The only job I’d like to do for a bank is actually trading the Forex. Luckily nowadays you can just do it for yourself with MetaTrader. Make a tidy little extra every month from it. Less pressure with your own money and once your playing with the houses money there is literally no stress. Keep up the great content mate 👍

True wealth is not defined by how much money your making but from the relation money/freedom, if you make 200k a year but you have to work 8h/day in a place you hate your "effective" wealth is way lower than the wealth of a self-employed working online 4h a day, traveling the world, making "just" 30k a year...
