Updates since producing this video. The CPU fan, despite having 4 pins, will run at 100%. There isn't even a BIOS option to change that. Also the physical 16x PCIe slot, gets detected by CPU-Z as only being 8x physical. Turbo Boost isn't working at all, so the CPU will run at Base Clock at the most. VRM temps check out fine though, 54C under load with CPU-Z.

for the 16x PCIe Slot getting detected as a 8x slot, could it have something to do with the GPU you have installed? Apparently PCIe 3.0 Cards run at 8x instead of 16x when installed in a PCIe 2.0 slot, considering it's a H61 chipset then it should be (most likely) a PCIe 2.0 slot so a newer PCIe 3.0 card would be running 8x anyway.

Well Budget-Builds Official, That's what it all comes down to is building on a budget. I am a mainly budget oriented gamer and buy and sell pc's pretty regularly which in turn pays for my personal system. I've used local classifieds websites to piece together some great gaming pc's for cheap. Had an x58 i7 920 oc@4.0ghz on an Asus p6t with 16gb 2133mhz ram,gtx 780,1tb hdd $300. Optiplex 9010 i5 3570,12gb 2133mhz ram,750gb hdd,120gb ssd,gtx 960 $195. Prices in CAD It's alot more fun making a machine that is fairly powerful for a small cost when all these people who believe you need brand new hardware every year are spending $2000 on a tower. Im currently typing on an i7 3770 system i just finished building for my girlfriend. Cost $350. -Gigabyte H61M-S2PV -i7 3770 -12gb DDR3-1600 -Optiplex 9010 stock cooler -500gb HDD -Gtx 1050ti Asus Cerebrus Edition

@@shiva_MMIV and Max Pain you can overclock on the H61 just not through bios. If you have a K cpu installed download Intel Extreme Tuning Utility which will allow you to raise your multiplier. The only downside is having to reapply it when you restart your system. Another option is ThrottleStop. It's a downclocking software for laptops to keep them cool which allows multiplier access. I have overclocked an i7 2600k on a Dell Optiplex 990 so it can most definitely be done!

My first Core i series motherboard was an Intel DH61WW with an i5 2300 and it was a whole new world but the board had some downsides as a large GPU covered two of the four SATA ports as well as the only X1 PCI-E slot, so no USB 3.0 card with a decent GPU. Also, my revision only allowed up to an i7 2700K but some revisions supported the 3770K. It was a nice introduction to the i series but also let me know how important the premium boards could be, as far as expandability goes.

I bought a cheap B75 board for my i5-3470, about a little over a year ago. The board still works fine for the most part, but a few weeks ago all 6 of the USB 2.0 ports just stopped working. Windows still sees the controller, but the ports simply don't output any power to the peripherals. Luckily, the 4 USB 3.0 ports still work, so I can still manage to use the computer. But take it as a word of warning. These boards might not last nearly as long as say, an Asus.

I've build 7 machines with i5 2400 early this year, I would not recommend getting this board, for these reasons. 1. Mostly only had 100mbps ethernet, and they even still list it with 1gbit Ethernet, it's fixable with $5 gigabit nic pcie, but considering the time we are now, gigabit should always a standard. 2a. Mostly only support gen2 (sandy bridge processors) now if you get one with Ivy bridge support, good for you, but just in case you get the older version of these boards, then good luck finding a proper BIOS update for non branded board you buy, because it's non existent. 2b. if you are stuck with Older bios, then you also stuck with older GPU, since most of the time if you are using GPU with UEFI (GTX 750Ti for example) you will stuck at boot logo (if there's any), this problem fixable if the bios had legacy option FORCE enabled, but if it's not then again, you stuck with it. 3. Bad placement of sata ports and various IO. if you are using long GPU it will cover 2 sata ports below pcie x16 slot. I've wasted $150 for shipping back and forth to fix these unfixable problems, and I gave up, I went to buy Q67 boards from acer used parts instead, and it was better, it has sata3, USB3, and 6 ports of sata, and surprisingly intel NIC gigabit)

If you need a BIOS file for these boards with identical layout to the one in this video (probably not working for the other variants they sell now), I can use my EEPROM programmer to read out the BIOS chip on mine. volt reg's seems to be the common item noted about these cheap china boards when referring to overclocking not being a good idea. They have an AM3+ version as well that is supposed to support everything from Phenom I all the way to FX as it has one slot for DDR-2 and 1 slot for DDR-3. It might be worth checking out for the novelty factor and to see if it actually works as the last time I saw a board that could support more than 1 kind of RAM was the old Asrock LGA775 "switcher" boards that had AGP and PCIe and DDR1 and DDR2.
@philscomputerlab6 жыл бұрын

Here ya go here is one, they have several last I checked.. tinyurl.com/ya69a9kb As you can see she has 2 RAM slots and asking the seller they confirmed one is DDR2, the other DDR3. It is called the "c61" and looks like its a cousin to your H61, probably the same company. Nice thing is it does support PS2 keyboard and mouse so might make for a good retro XP box with something like a dirt cheap Phenom X4 9150e which they sell there for a whopping...$8.
@TheHangarHobbit6 жыл бұрын
PhilsComputerLab Oh and naturally no HDMI out but it does have VGA as well has a PCIe and PCI slot so copying the rig you just tested should be easy. Like I said might make for a dirt cheap XP retro rig as the old Phenom/Athlon and DDR2/DDR3 as you pointed out is quite cheap.
@philscomputerlab6 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the link, very interesting. Has an IDE port as well :)
@TheHangarHobbit6 жыл бұрын
PhilsComputerLab Huh, didn't even notice. I guess that makes it all the better for a retro build as it'll support older IDE HDDs and with both DDR2 and DDR3 it should be very versatile. I contacted the seller when I first saw it and was told its a Geforce 7 IGP (so well supported in XP and IIRC Win 7) and it does support both kinds of memory which according to him was 4Gb for the DDR2 and 8Gb for the DDR3 and it supports pretty much any AM2/AM3 CPU so it has a huge selection of CPUs you can pair it with that are insanely cheap. Like I said might be a good choice for someone wanting an uber-cheap retro XP box simply because parts for it should be common as dirt. IDK about Win9X, might work with a single core like a Sempron though.

Nice! It would be interesting to see how it compares to the to NOS from ASRock or used boards... Also as a Windows XP / 7 dual boot gaming machine. I will be looking forward for more content!
@philscomputerlab6 жыл бұрын
I'm not sure which Asrock NOS you're referring to, but there are used 1155 boards on AliExpress. You get boards from Asus or Gigabyte, but they are priced about the same, or higher for the better boards.

It is a motherboard with a quality similar to the H61 of the video, but unfortunately this X58 does not work with 8X pci cards, so my RX 560 did not work. Also it is worth noting that it does not have an X58 chipset in fact, but the Tylersburg 5520, which does not make much difference because this is basically the same as the X58. I bought this version with 6 phase for about $ 90, which is a bit overpriced in my opinion. I have not tested if it is possible to overclock (running with Xeon E5520) www.aliexpress.com/item/Brand-New-HUANAN-X58-motherboard-USB3-0-X58-LGA1366-motherboard-for-Xeon-X5670-X5650-DDR3-2/32881482880.html

I'm in the process of going 1155 from AM3, with a used Asus board and 3770 - the H61 chipset apparently supports PCI-E 3.0 on the x16 when used with a 3rd gen (and I take it the board was already BIOSed for 3rd gen) As I understand it, the H61 does not support K overclocking, but the BIOS may have an option to force all core turbo. I've also tried an Asmedia 1061 SATA 3 for my SSD, and while some way short of native chipset SATA 3, it beats the SATA 2 of the H61. The H61 is the "bottom of the barrel" LGA1155 chipset (all the others offer at least one SATA 3). The 6n chipsets are Sandy Bridge and generally support 3rd gen with a BIOS update, while the 7n are Ivy Bridge native

Those boards arrived at my work to replace older PCWare 1155s that died. Those are recognized as ZX-H61CM. They always have trouble with our Markvision DDR3 kit. For some reason they only accept the Celeron G400s the Pentium G2020s and 2030s refuse to POST. Most of the options on the BIOS are broken.
@philscomputerlab6 жыл бұрын
Yea I found that the BIOS has a ton of options, but many are just generic, or dummies like you say.
@GzeeBRII6 жыл бұрын
@@philscomputerlab Maybe they used an universal BIOS. I found H55s and H81s with the same visual and sane flaws.

I’m guessing overclocking is not an option on this. I’ve got an 1155 socket i7 K series CPU and 1155 Z series board are RIDICULOUS. I wonder if they offer any 1155 boards better suited for even mild overclocking.

These no name cheap boards are made with recycled parts, so quality just isn't there. Overclocking these can kill the board and take down others connected to it, permanently.

I really wanted to get one of these since they looked like mini ITX. Fortunately I noticed they are not in fact mini ITX and decided against it since I was determined to build a mini ITX system. So I ended just moving to whole new platform with the ryzen stuff. Bid on a few used mini ITX 1155 boards but I would always get outbid. If only the x16 slot was actually in the first position it would actually fit just about all mini ITX cases since they have the extra space for the dual slot gpu's. Don't know why the did not do that.

Yea it's Mini-DTX apparently. Some off form factor.
