Dear linus, I'm KENNY, a budget gaming PC builder in HK, and im always working around with chinese MB, yours was not the most unthinkable chinese MB I've been working with, chinese MB on LGA1151 are much more then you can imagine, and actually the one you're playing with was not meant to work with high end CPU like 8700k, it's meant for budget PC with a i3 8100, g4560, G5400 with ECC REG DDR3 (yes, your board dose support) since they are as cheap as rubbish in China, the reason you can't get the full power out of your CPU is because you haven't run through your BIOS yet, all the power control value has to be config manually to make your cpu turbo up in the right way, if your are not tuning it right, only one of the 6 cores will turbo up to the right speed. thats how you lost your CPU performance, you can make it right in BIOS or through INTEL XTU. And about Intel lied....Actually they do, i'm sure what they've done is just changed the microcode the make your MB unable to recognize older CPUs , the truth is we've found out all 100,200,300 chipsets can support through all 4 generations of 6,7,8 and 9 with a simple bios MOD, not only chinese MB can do that, just add in the microcode of the generation of the cpu you want, even a h110 can perfectly support a 9900k, and a z390 can run a 6700k, and we've also seen some chinese geeks had a breakthrough to run a Xeon E-2186G on a Z170 motherboard. The home gaming ITX rig i'm using myself, is using a i7 9700K engineering sample with a ASUS Z170i PRO GAMING, and it worked just fine with a GTX 1080Ti and DDR4 3000 and even overclockable... because In HK 100 and 200 MB are dirt cheap, like around US$15~US$20 to get a perfect condition 2nd handed ASUS, GIGABYTE, MSI, ASROCK....etc And also because we HK buyer wont have to pay extra transport fee to get those cheap server retired ECC RAM and cheap CPUs form taobao and aliexpress, I3 8100 and i5 8400 on a h110 and b150 MB become one of my best choice besides X79 and Lga 1156 to build budget gaming PCs with. thats why i'm always messing with all those bios adding in the CPU microcode i needed, So I'm pretty sure with this~ you just search online and you can easily find packed microcode module to add into EFI bios, its just as simple as adding a NVMe support to 2~4 gen MB, And BTW, almost every DDR3 MB can do ECC REG support too, also a little mod of the BIOS will do....

kirkb4989 I see what you are saying but just as "they are a buisness", we are the consumers, and although it may be their goal to make more money, it is our duty to make sure we are getting the best quality for the most reasonable price. The moment we start saying "well, of course Intel is charging high prices and deliberately excluding features, they are a *buisness*", it is this moment where we have failed as consumers as we are simply allowing validation to whatever price they charge. It's like saying "well, of course RAM prices are so high, Samsung has to make money somehow! They are, after all, a *buisness*"

@@kirkb4989 Shady business practices is not the way, they could had backward compatibility like AMD does but obviously with a newer chipset that can take advantages of the new CPU you will have an advantage over using your old Motherboard, obviously you will have a little bit less sales and board partners might not be as happy, but the truth is the truth and hiding it does not make it less of a lie. Intel was taking your money for over 10 years, they sat on their arses and did no deliver real improvements since they did not even needed to, there was no competition, their improvements were minimal at best, and it took AMD to come back with an 8 core CPU that kind of sucked for them to start to really improve and be semi-competitive again... and now.... well now they will see what happens when you get stagnant for so long.

Also Linus: breaks apart RED camera in a way that almost certainly ruins it for a video
@megamixa5 жыл бұрын
@Universal Link Bro, you really need to watch more of his videos. He has gone over in multiple videos why they have RED cameras and shoot in such a high resolution, even though youtube limits you to 4k. And most users are watching from mobile devices? Do you have data to back that up? Plus, not everyone is watching from their phone. Should all media be limited to 1440p because people watch it on their phone? That's not how it works. Some of us have 4k displays and watch videos in 4k. That's why the option exist. Same reason ultra settings exist in games. Some people have computers that can handle ultra settings, others cannot. That doesn't mean they game shouldn't have higher quality settings because not everyone can utilize it. That's a poor argument. The higher the resolution your video is, the more flexibility you have when editing the videos. So if you were to shoot a video in 32k resolution, the image quality after processing would be damn near perfect. Anyone who has edited a low resolution video knows how crummy it is to deal with it. The effects look like shit, you can't zoom in, and you can't really tweak any lighting settings or reframe the image without dropping the quality even further down the toilet. This also allows you to zoom in on scenes extremely close without losing image quality. So it may appear that the camera is 5 feet away, but in reality they're 20 feet away.

False. The power limit of any motherboard can’t be below the cpu’s rated tdp (in this case 95W). Also the 8700K at stock (4.3GHZ all cores) running Cinebench R15 consumes way less power than its rated power of 95W. You only hit 95W when running Prime 95 with AVX2 workload. So, no, the 8700K was not limited by power. There two reasons for the difference in performance. The first is DDR3. The second is that for the Z370 board they had multicore enhancement enabled running the 8700K at 4.7GHz on all cores instead of the stock 4.3GHz. MCE on with DDR4: 1536 (I have seen with MCE on going up to 1583) Stock (MCE off) with DDR4: 1430 Stock with DDR3: 1254-1258

Let's see what intel did the last few years to screw over their costumers: - Intel thermally sabotaged their chips before finally going back to a soldered chip in the 9th gen. Sabotaged because you could get up to 20°C decrease by delidding 8th gen CPUs. - we were soled the same 14nm chip with some minor improvements over the last 4 generations. I'm pretty sure if it wasn't for AMD we would still have 4 Core i5 Chips. - Intel lied to us about compatibility of the 6th-9th gen chips, forcing us to buy new boards. Look at Der8auer's recent video where he checked how much voltage a pin could take. - Intel 9th gen i7 chips have less hyper threads than the 8th gen version only so they could justify the i9 chip at a ridiculous price. - non K version of intel's lineup have a lot of OC potential but they forbid the board manufacturers to unlock it (look for skylake non K OC)

Intel has been using shitty TIM for awhile now, really since ivybridge/3xxx parts. They've also been kings of arbitrary performance paywalls. They got away with it because AMD couldn't compete with bulldozer and now that they're getting bested by Ryzen all over their markets they're having a hard time making anything compelling. Also, Intel's 10nm fabs really suck still, so we're not going to see them best the 7nm Ryzen parts any time soon, which is why we've seen their power density go through the roof with the 8 and 9th gen parts. They have no choice because AMD's 1st gen 7nm parts are already getting more clock per watt and it's only going to get better from here.
@watersnortmoment37345 жыл бұрын

I upgrade my pc at least every 4 years. unless there is some magical tech advancement. I upgrade my case never unless I want a new case. my Dell XPS which came with a core 2 quad lasted me 7 years. I kept the hard drives, PSU, all fans, but had to get another sealed water cooling as it wasn't compatible with the 4th gen i5. I also upgraded the gfx to a gtx 780. was a cheap upgrade. then upgraded to 8th gen i7, the reason for the upgrades isn't because the hardware is obsolete, because it isn't. my girlfriend uses her i5 4670k for gaming and it works perfectly with a gtx 1080. If I was only gaming, then I would have still been on the i5 system but doing spec FX calls for more power to be more productive. also rocking a mac pro 2012 for most video work. if most of my workflow was in 4k I would probably upgrade to a newer Mac. no need to upgrade every year.

How nasty does Intel have to be as a company before people even CONSIDER purchasing AMD products? They have such a long and storied history of patent trolling, antitrust, buying benchmarks etc. They fight technical competition with marketing and lawsuits. Just look at the Athlon64 vs The Pentium 4. The Athlon was technically superior, but Intel won through mindshare and backroom deals. AMD beat Intel to 64 bit, multicore AND the 1ghz barrier, but still couldn't compete with Intel's marketing machine. Shameful. Intel is, and always has been a nasty, anti-technology company that doesn't deserve your money.

@@BikeHelmetMk2 yeah, i bought the ram before the price spike. I think its 85$ equivalent today (4590 pesos) on promo. Jan 2016 I think

@@clou09 Very nice. I got my 32GB for $140 CAD a few years back. (Around $100 USD) Must've been the absolute low point. Haven't seen a similar price since. I like to ride my computers at least 6-8 years if possible though.

Intel sleazed the crap out the period of AMD's irrelevance. They're just having a hard time adapting to not "making sweet love" to their customers without fear of consequence.

I wish that Linus would do a video showing off the BIOS mod for Z170 and Z270 that grants them the Coffee Lake microcodes, enabling those motherboards to run Coffee Lake. Yes, this has actually been done by many people and the steps are well documented!

I've a feeling that the DDR3 wasn't the limitation... 1333 vs 1866 is a pretty huge pump in performance in some games.
