Those Xeons are impressive for their age. My i5-4690k is starting to show its age in some newer titles. Stuff like DOOM (2016) and Forza are fine, though. The Vulkan and DX12 APIs seem to push my GPU harder and the 4 core CPU is still good enough @4.1Ghz. Where the 4 cores really struggle are in Ubisoft open-world games like Watchdogs 2. It gets choked on geometry draw-calls. To hit 60fps consistently, I have to lower the geometry settings a notch or two.

Thank you for your review. I am having big pleasure listening you. It is good that your are showing the power consumption, as it is not common for most tech observers. Maybe here also would be good to add few words about the efficiency for your power supply, as final power consumption is very dependent of PSU. Some less experienced viewers could take it wrong thinking that values of power consumption you show is what only CPU and mobo use, missing the fact that PSU itself can consume from 5% to 40% of power. And due to this real CPU`s TDP under max load actually corresponds to official spec. paper.

Hopefully I'll have it up and running by the end of the month. It should be able to play pretty much everything in high/ultra settings at 1080p/60+fps (except maybe PUBG, that game is just horribly unoptimized). And it'll pay for itself in video editing work. Future upgrades for the same computer: -PCIe X16 NVMe adapter and 1TB NVMe SSD(non bootable, but can be defaulted to for all programs to be installed on it, and having the video files being edited on that drive will make everything faster as well) -PCIe X4 USB 3.1 Gen2 adapter (will make getting files from the camera to the computer MUCH faster)

Hello Phil's this is very helpful video which coincides with my current plan to build using a 2420v2 cpu for this platform. I'd also like to ask you that since m2 nvme port is not running at full speed, is it possible to put a normal m2 sata ssd on the port instead? Thank you Phil for your video
@philscomputerlab5 жыл бұрын
Hmm, there might be adaptors, but not sure!
@reyzafany19925 жыл бұрын
@@philscomputerlab I mean there are m2 ssd with sata protocol right? Not all m2 ssd is nvme. So I'm wondering if that m2 sata ssd will be detected, I heard most motherboard with m2 nvme port will detect m2 sata ssd drives but I'm not sure and hoping you'll be willing to check since my motherboard has not yet to come.

I have a question. X5670 looks better thank the xeon 2430V2 so why did you choose 1356?
@philscomputerlab5 жыл бұрын
I'm not familiar with that CPU, tell me more!

PhilsComputerLab you don't know x5670??? It's a west mere 6core Xeon that can overclock really high. 4.5+ ghz. You do bclk overclocking on an x58 motherboard. You can buy those cpus for cheap. X5650-20 bucks max. Sometimes 10 dollars. The problem is you can't find the motherboards for cheap. Incredible deal if you can find a good motherboard.

✌️😏 for Simulation i recommend picking up both: Euro Truck Simulator & American Truck Simulator, its alot easier than a flight simulator if ur a noob 😊 🙂 some people find them relaxing, pickup a load at a shipper and then spend the day in actual time driving Over The Road, just like us real truckers ✌️😎🚛🚛🚛🚛🚛 😏 pickup a CB Radio & Whip Antenna as well if u wana get even more into it ☺️ lol .

Hey Phil, I've just noticed stores like WUSON on AE are selling mobo/processor/memory/cooler/etc bundles very close to some of the systems you've spec'ed out lately. What are your thoughts on these bundles? Are the Chinese RAM kits still a bit dodgy or are these a good value?
@philscomputerlab5 жыл бұрын
If things go to plan, I might be able to review such a bundle soon! With the RAM, so far I bought 4 kits from AE and they all work as advertised, but some RAM was modified, overclocked basically. So yea, a bit sketchy, but in terms of function, you do get working RAM.

Good Video But theres something that i was wondering, is there a way to limit the power consumption of the Sandy Bridge CPU in the bios because i had a few motherboards that have that feature, i know it might hurt boost clocks but i wonder if that is an option thanks.

Do any of these cheap boards do the dual cpu thing? I'm guessing not, but thought I'd ask.
@philscomputerlab5 жыл бұрын
Not that I've seen, for dual Xeon action, there are LGA 2011 boards.

TDP is what your Cooler must handle and how much airflow your case needs etc, it has nothing to do with power consumption at the wall. You CAN trust the rated TDP of a component. That's why you see those power meters for sale in stores, especially in countries with high power prices. You will also notice it's warm in their houses and the heated floor is on in the laundry.

Very nice, this is lovely budget stuff. Ivy Bridge is still good. :) Have the Chinese started making cheap X99 mobos yet by any chance? That platform interests me greatly as we have good supply of those Xeons around here. So far I've been unsucessful finding any decent value on the motherboards, though.

@philscomputerlab just curious. Have you tried two 32GB RAM 🐏 sticks i.e 64GB to see if they are compatible? The board specs are very non specific on various Chinese / Russian sites about this board but the these Xeon’s should support higher ram it all depends if the sockets contain the required address lines...

If I'm not totally wrong with english (I'm not fluent), seemed to me that you compared termal dissipated power with the electrical power draw from PSU which is an error. Am I wrong?
