Great video. It actually shows what kind of pain staking process that one goes through in order to trouble shoot a problem. I have a service monitor exactly like yours but not real familiar with it. Thanks for the lessons. Always want to learn something new.

I’ve been able to program similar radios (MaxTrac 100/Radius m120) without a straight DOS computer and a USB FTDI to Motorola RJ45 cable from eBay. I use DOSBox emulation at 191 cycles. Seems to work fine inside of a windows XP VirtualBox run on a mac. Go figure double emulation. Had to do it that way as I couldn’t figure out how to set the baud rate on the FTDI cable on the Mac to run DOSBox directly on the Mac. Windows handles that fine.

I have an m120 m43gmc20a2aa. It has a 16 pin connector on the back. The speaker is muted due to the fact it was programed to only open the speaker when a repeater tone is received. I need to know what 2 pins have to jumped to get the receiver sound to remain on. Also I need how to wire up a cable to program the radio. And where to get software. Can you help me?

I think the radio you are showing is the Motorola sm 50 or 60 two channel radio. I have the Motorola radius SM 120 and it has a backlit screen LCD screen showing channels 1 thru 10 and I can not find any instruction manual for it to figure out how to get it to scan and I don't have the software to program it and do not have the serial? Cable for programming it with DOS. I apparently can not find out what frequency is in each channel unless I had test equipment that could broadcast on many frequencies until the radio received the frequency or I could get a frequency box and transmit from the radio and have the box identify the frequency and the radio you are showing is not the radius SM 120. Usual fault for GM300 models is that crystal 44.645 mhz, nothing else.

Absolutely love your radio videos, always entertaining and interesting to watch. Please keep making them!! Are these radios capable of 2watt TX power? I'm attempting to set up a small company with MURS radios in their service trucks. I'm a Kenwood guy myself, running several for GMRS currently, but I'm having trouble finding 2 watt capable moble radios. I came across an article a while back stating that some GM300s could be 2 watt capable, but again I'm not a Motorola guy, so I'm not familiar with this. I dont need all 5 MURS channels, 2 at the most is just fine.

This one isn't capable of 2W since it's a power range "4". You can't tune the PA down that low because it starts to go a little bonkers that far out of the 25W-40W design range. There was a power range "0" model that was extremely rare that was rated for 1-10W that would be exactly what you want. Very popular for point to point links and as exciters for external PAs for repeaters.

UHF APRS is not a thing in the US?
@KennethFinnegan3 жыл бұрын
Nope. States can't agree on voice simplex channels, let alone a continental APRS channel.
