I love this song so much and this is as good as it gets live. But my entry to Phish was oddly enough the Farmhouse album when I was 10 years old, and it throws me off hearing the alternative lyrics during the chorus every time I listen to a live version of this song. I’ve probably seen them play Bug live three or four times and every time the chorus hits I’m just joyfully singing “bug, it doesn’t matter” with a huge smile. And then I realize they’re not singing the same lyrics.

It always boggles my mind that I rarely see other lead guitarists make use of feedback more. If you want massive sustain, using feedback to get it like Trey does is the most effective method. So many guitarists are either afraid of feedback, or they only use it for noise-making like Hendrix. I hear so many players obsess over sustain. If they could learn to make use of feedback instead of fearing it, they would find they have all the sustain in the world.
