Love the studio version versus live performance concept. Look for something where the live version is significantly longer than the studio recording. Or, alternatively, you could get Treys senior thesis album, The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday and start picking your way through Gamehendge. Just sayin.

@KiverChris-jm6oj8 күн бұрын
Maze does rip, and L double E should love it. But only because it’s his first time hearing it. You’ll love it less when you realize that every live performance is pretty much the same except for variables in terms of speed, technical proficiency, and peakiness. The few performances over the years that have diverged from the blueprint (eg. 12/31/94) have not been Phish career highlights. To me, Maze is a bathroom break song. Love these vids! Love Lee’s journey, and I look forward to Saturday mornings because of them! I just want to be real so that Lee knows that when he bumps up against the limits of Phish’s awesomeness, he knows he’s not nuts!

In many ways it’s the originality and musicianship that draw in fans from all walks of musical life.. regardless of where you come from musically , Phish does it for many musicians that can appreciate the complexity and technicality the same way we love prog and metal… and Zappa lol 🤘

The entire Rift album is amazing and I believe the only album of theirs that could be considered a concept album as the entire album explores the rift in a relationship.
@tombadil648 күн бұрын
I would say, you should totally start listening to different versions of tracks whenever you want on your own time. The catalogue is so vast and full of variety, there's really no reason to limit yourself unnecessarily because of the channel. If you got the itch just listen. There's literally 300 other version to pick from. They always brighten my day, so you shouldn't miss out on that for yourself- you've barely scratched the surface. As far as studio albums go, my favorites are rift, billy breathes, and Junta. All three are worth a listen. Hell, the whole catalogue is, but like you said, only so much time.
@FlowerSupply4206 күн бұрын
I agree. Maybe, at minimum, listen to 3 or 4 other top versions of whatever you heard the prior Saturday. So listen to a 93 maze, 12/11/97, etc.

L33, this was awesome. I am just loving every step you take here. Cannot wait for next week. Some info I did not see in the comments - you mentioned The Man Who Stepped Into Yesterday - If I am not mistaken, that is the story of Colonel Forbin finding himself in Gamehenge where the evil King Wilson has captured the Helping Friendly Book and enslaved the land of the Lizards, but they are in the midst of a revolution. He meets several amazing characters as he journeys to find The Great and Knowledgeable Icculus in a quest to find the Helping Friendly Book to defeat Wilson and free the land. This was Trey's thesis in college and it involved some spoken portions and many songs - many really great songs!! It was featured in bits and pieces frequently, the songs are all in rotation throughout the years, some never left, some have come and gone and returned, some are pretty rare to hear. The complete story happened from time to time throughout the mid 90's, then it pretty much came out of the shows for a lot of years, until NYE coming out of 2023 into 2024, where at MSG they not only played the whole thing - but they had dancers and guests assist and it was epic. Definitely worth looking into. As much as we get to enjoy you enjoying this dive into the best kept secret in music, I think we all want to share the nest4ed secrets as much as possible to help you along on this exploration of pure joy. I can’t wait to see what we do next week, man. Love this…

If you decide to start diving into their albums, Rift, Billy Breathes and Story of the Ghost are the Holy Trinity of studio Phish IMO. Rift = closest to live sound. BB & SotG = studio as instrument. All 3 are complete front to back perfectly crafted pieces of sonic art.

@@L33Reacts oh for sure. I always say the studio cuts are like the musically G-rated versions where live goes XXX lol.
