The cool thing about where you started is that they're starting this Ghost while segueing out of the previous song, which is called AC/DC Bag. So at the very beginning, they're still playing the previous song's chords, which are A-C-D-C-F-A-G. Since both are in A, it's an easy switch from the former to Ghost. You're dead-on right with the F# too...almost all Phish jams over minor chords feature dorian jamming.

So one of the things about Phish that you point out is in this rendition of Ghost, Mike particularly stands out. I don’t know how deep into Phish you are, but their sound kind of morphs over the years and 97-98 are very important years for Mike. The bass/rhythm sound during these years is affectionately referred to as “Cow funk”. I would encourage you to check out Split Open and Melt from November 6, 1998 for what is in my humble opinion one of the best examples of cow funk. Also the SOAM jam has a really cool form where the boys flip the downbeat and the upbeat at the end of every fourth measure thereby jamming four measures on the downbeat and then four measures on the upbeat which makes for some really interesting, spacey, sometimes even dark and menacing sound spaces that they explore. Anywho, always interesting watching somebody else break Phish down. God bless!

Boy, didn't expect to see this in my recommended. I was pretty critical of you back then after it all happened, as I was a big, big fan of the videos you did on Phish (the regular videos; I didn't know about the streams until after everything). Quadrophenia is one of the few Halloween Shows I've missed. And absolutely love The Who. Quad and Tommy are both definitely top 10 albums for me. Tommy probably top5. Saw White Album missed Quad the next freakin Halloween I missed. 🤦 Waiting For Columbus. Another top 10 all-time for me. Last one I was at was Chilling Thrilling Sounds. And not only did I have that album as a kid. Listened to it all the time. And remembered most of the album pretty well. I was blown away with that show more than most were. Haven't been to the last several. Don't tour anymore, pushing 50 years old. And I'm not really too hurt about it. Did suck missing Ziggy. And second biggest regret, not going to Utah after Vegas. I know musically it wasn't the greatest show. But Harpua>Dark Side>Harpua I would have lost my shit. Floyd was my favorite band and as many early shows as I did. I never got a full beginning to end Harpua. Until 3.0 SPAC Harpua>Kissed a Girl. My buddy happened to be looking at me when I heard the Oompaa start. And he said that is happiest I've ever seen you look. And I seriously think you jumped about 5 feet in the air. Biggest Phish regret while I'm babbling. Great Woods '94. Venue is about 20 minutes from my house. I had tickets, but my sister's Graduation Party was that night. And at that time, my family would have killed me for missing it. Of course that was the last Gamehenge. Like everyone else. I've been praying for one ever since. Nowadays my family expects it. Missed my biggest family reunion ever. Only time all my Canadian and all other wayward relatives were all together. Only person not there. I was on tour in '96.

Hey Michael! Awesome to see you back on some Phish. I love the way you’re articulating their style. I’ve never been able to do so myself, but great work man

gordons musicianship is oftenly not appreciate other than "hes dropping bombs" really fun performance everyone grinning ear to ear and thats music :) i just love free flowing in moment music. analysis is spot on as usual and its not easy with all effects to get the science or theory out of it. Great video for phish fan to watch they would learn a lot👏You hear fishman like we do he is so good hes like a clock made by zappa lol. Band cant play like this without him. Thank you mike !!!🙏 People don't break down such improvisatory music you do it quite easily and this wasnt "broad strokes " smoking show. You great enthusiasm and passion for music

I remember that well Mike. I recall responding. As L.L. probably told you, it's not the band, the band authorizes Nugs & others to record, stream, broadcast & charge for that content. Many many dedicated pholks have had to contend with it. I am happy to see you put that experience behind you. Rock on bro. Thanx

The Ghost from 11/17/97 is by far my favorite- some of the best improvisational jamming you’ll ever hear

Welcome back. Phish is a cooperate machine, and it is what it is. Best not fight it, and just try to enjoy it, and you really seemed to. Love it.

God I miss the boomerang loops in Ghost. Added so much to it.
