Fox2, I also heard, and subsequently fell in love with Phish in my late teenage years... although, I wouldn't go so far as to say that it was the drugs that dragged them down. I was lucky enough to see them 17 or 18 times, including Big Cypress and IT. Certainly the best live music I've ever heard. (Since then Radiohead is the only real challenge) Anyway, I don't think you can pin one reason for the end of such a monumental band.

@Druss1586 i can't beleive you just said the dead "proved no feat that any person who likes the blues and experimented with hallucinogens could not have accomplished." Without the dead we would not have half of the music you listen to and love today, including phish. they were brilliant musicians and easily rank as high as phish in the quality of musicianship from all of the band members.

I always thought our scene was so transparent, that everybody knew everything. ... Once we let our guard down around 1998, the scene started to eat itself and there was a massive loss of perspective."

get a clue. coventry was not the best musically becasue Phish music isn't supposed to be planned or full of expectation. The best Phish gigs wre the ones where nobody showed up in a small no named town. even Jerry admitted that the Dead played horribly when big shows came around. Just becasue it was the last show, doesn't mean it had to be the best musically...have you ever played an instrument? You try and play a tight, flawless show with all that emotion running through you.
