the first great version is usually the debut for Phish but in this case it took a long time (3 years) and a lot to learn and tune to make this song epic and Mexico not America got the first great version (rare) look up Wading in the Velvet Sea back of the worm (3-1-03 ALONE gives the worm a run for its money on that epic sad song of tears) Sugar Shack Joy Life Beyond the Dream all best on their debuts and Show of Life was best on its 2nd try 6-19 not 6-11 but that one was close BOAF is a rare example of the exact opposite 2-28-03 the best ever short version and the Eagle finally landed with his friends of a feather in my backyard basically on 6-19-19 long after 1998 and the Portland Pig show known for California Love in Free and perhaps my favorite show of all time but not because of an epic debut of BOAF That came later in 2 forms short and long and I am so glad because I dont want Phish to only play their new songs amazingly the first time but it is a pattern but it is also not a perfect pattern with no exceptions This IAWITW is a classic ex of the rule not always being true and rules are meant to be broken by an experimental jam prog band anyways Look up the first IAWITW in 2016 the show and song were mediocre and so the show and game goes on Will they play it best on debut like I expect or will they shock me like BOAF and Lawn Boy and MFMF in recent years 2023 and 24 especially or will they shoot their load best the first time like Sugar Shack and Joy and the songs are never amazing minus the lyrics to Joy but listen to the extra sauce on those initial versions and be shocked at how bad it is now 6-7-09 and A life beyond a Dream 6-19-19 not even with Alison Krauss in theory or Derek Trucks in reality 2023 SPAC could make the song better than it already was on encore debut at Blossom

Thought so too. Page's vocal's are way off. I would not play this for any of my non-Phish fan friends. Cringing and thought about giving up on this. But I'm glad I kept listening. The jam is crazy good. DDHVL is great!
