Lighting is quite self-explanatory. M.S. used lights positioned further away. Hence the brighter catchlights, the smoother falloff and the overall evenness of the light across the frame. You can't achieve neither by shoving strip-boxes in models face. Choose bigger softboxes, pull them away from the subject, adjust distance to background, add 2 black flags on both sides of the model and you're pretty much there. And BTW, the original catchlights intentionally don't reach across all the iris.

Magic - using light appropriately - happens when you press the button (refer to some comments relating to how Schoeller uses his light sources) and not in post.
