Scorched Earth is my go-to biome for finding thylacoleos. MUCH easier to deal with than trying to spot them and avoid getting pounced upon in the Redwoods zone on the Island! They always seem to be prowling around on the ground around the bluffs.

For the boss fight you can also tame a Tek Rexes that have higher level cap then the normal ones (once Wildcard decided to add them back to ARK Ascended).
