Taming used to take for literal ever. To tame a 120 bronto (was max level at the time) it took 16 hours to tame it. I remember taking 8 hours to tame a level 58 mammoth when level 60 was the wild dino cap. If you died, there was an 80% chance that your backpack either fell through the map or was just "gone" forever. Tamed dino stats used to be absolutely OP and you could tame a mid level raptor and after a few levels you could easily kill max level brontos. Offline tribemates used to gain "shared xp", so I would go crazy making narcotics and everyone would log in the next day wondering why they gained 5 levels over night. I moved our base when everyone was offline and I dragged their offline bodies onto my quetzal platform (when it was the "new" tame) .. as soon as I started flying their bodies ragdolled halfway across the map never to be found again. Eggs used to fall through the map unless they were laid on the sand close to water level. There was a bug where if someone was at 50.0/50.0 no one else on the map could harvest (metal atleast) .. took a while for me to realize my new base location wasn't the best idea. Ocean creatures used to jump out of the water and die instantly. Rafts were able to be put on "follow" for a short period of time. It actually took a very long time to level up ... like a very VERY long time compared to now. Stone used to be extremely hard to mass gather until the doed was put in the game. Pteranodons were so fast that people's large bases would load in around you and you became stuck inside their base.

This was peak Ark. We used this RIGHT when the knowledge about it started to spread. The alphas on our server were so anxious about anybody Quetz farming, they would patrol and scout bases for rapid growth. We had to do our slot-cap metal farms at night and hide our ramp quetzs inside so they wouldn't know we were doing it. But lo-and-behold, they flew over one night and saw we were rapidly catching up to their development, so they gathered the beta tribes and knocked us off the server. About six months later, I found a Reddit post talking about how the alphas on our server got completely gutted out by hackers. Couldn't have been happier. I made a new char and ran back to their base, only to find small remnants of their infrastructure.

Here's 2 more facts from old Ark: 1. Tames use to have unlimited item slots. The only thing limiting how many items a tame could carry was the carry weight. 2. The devs played around with the idea of the players being able to play on procedurally generated maps. The option is still in ASE were you can create a procedural ark. However, the feature wasn't developed past its initial introduction, as far as I'm aware.

Since then, I've forgotten most of these changes since I have literally almost 10,000 hours playing the game. So it's nice to see a video detailing the changes the game has had since it's launch. I keep repeating to myself "Oh yea, I remember that" 😁 Ark is by far one of my favorite games and regardless of how people feel about the devs, I'm going to continue playing Ark many more years from now.

I got Ark in 2015. None of us had a PC that could actually run the game comfortably, it had so many bugs and crashes it was painful, mods didn't really exist yet and all we had was The Island. BUT the game showed complexity and a depth of gameplay, a promise that it could become awesome given enough time and effort. This game is far more complex and in-depth than many modern day MMO's and that's just going to result in issues and problems other games and MMO's won't have.

@@fenner1986 And that was for reason. Early access means they got to release updates easier, as in Steam/Sony/Microsoft process to get your updates in are less strict for Early access stuff vs full released, so trying to add quick hotfix would require them to go trough the process if they were full released meaning they would have to try server side fix/disable the thing causing it, but with ARK having so many community servers and lets say it was rexes causing server crashes when bred, yeah the community aint gonna be happy if they cant breed rexes for potentially days, while in early access they could drop that basically within hour of them figuring it out and thus being less of problem. Pre-Cryopods, I definitely still remember forming up an entire caravan of dinos and crossing the map, because you didn't like where you'd made your base, and needed to relocate. Massive follow-chains, one player at the back to make sure nothing happened there, and 2-3 players up front. 1 to lead the caravan, and the other 1-2 in charge of killing stuff. Moving the base itself was easier, since you could just max an argent's weight out, and then fly back and forth slowly. It took time, but wasn't the level of complexity that moving your dinos was.

But before you could still bring Argies into caves but couldnt fit even a wolf through the tiny crawl space. So we had to bring an Argy egg, carry it into the crawl space, build a warm hatching environment inside the cave and hatch a baby Argy and grow it up to be used in the cave. Then it lived in the cave permanently. Same with wolves. You had a pregnant wolf give birth out front the crawl space, get the newborn to follow crawl into the cave and raise it up inside to be a fighting animal. Good times.

Nowadays, people just cryo a dino and speed run a cave solo. It's not fun anymore. I get that cryopods are useful for certain reasons. I hadn't even thought about how they changed the obelisks. You know how everyone talks about doing mini parkours whilst zoning out having deep covos on Minecraft. That was me on ark, just hopping from each branch of the Ob.

A lot of changes to quetzals too, The fact you used to be able to make turret quetzals (that goes for all that have platform saddles) and having to make a box on a quetzal to trap anothere one to tame it. Also being able to force feed unlimited speeds so you could literally outlast turret damage by just force feeding your dino.

We used to make fun of "beach bobs", the players who logged once a month and never had anything besides thatch and stones We used to play at 8 fps because we were at the tame limit of 400, laying eggs constantly We even had to wait to tame something, because the server was so full that it capped. So you would drop a good dino, and then there was the message "server tame limit reached". I think it was the main reason for them to implement the cryopods And finally, the milk runs, and the giga breeding, before cryopods, owls, pigs and glitches. Dark times.
@JasesAce2 ай бұрын

So many og ark things were missed. 50/50 turret glitch where it would make invisible coppies of structures on platorm saddles. Battle quetzals with turrets running down raptor clause. The good ole days. No snailes or chem bench, so all paste was made in a morter. No tek at all, heavy turrets not being a thing and auto turrets not being fast enough to track most flyers with speed pumped. If i remember right the indi forge also wasnt a thing at first and you needed massive forge rooms. No turret/plant turret cap so some bases would out right crash servers when to many people remdered them and so much more

You missed perhaps the most important change, the optimisation. When the game first came out I had to run it on the lowest settings just to make it playable and for at least a year they kept releasing new dino's with no attention to the core game, so much so that I initially gave up on it. Eventutally though I went back some time later and things had improved and I was able to up the settings that made the game look much better without updating my hardware. After this I really started to enjoy the game and have spent countless hours with it. It still not perfect, windows file compression can almost half the amount of space the game takes up with no impact on performance meaning the code is unoptimised and some things in multiplayer (I mainly play single) such as claiming vast areas by placing posts make some servers unusable after only a few players have claimed the land mass.

Things that you didn’t mention that I think were insanely different back in OG Ark. Harvest, Exp and Taming rates took way longer to get anything. Turrets were hard to get because the angler didn’t harvest pearls and you had to gather them by hand The game didn’t have hit markers for a while so you didn’t know if you were sniping someone or missing Turrets Quetz was the most op thing in the game at one point Not getting shot off of Carbos and people would rocket run with them and turtle bomb with 10+ c4 per turtle Using bodies that had been logged out for (30 days I think) they had no more weight and you could black box them and use them as storage and drag them as if they had no weight. I’m sure I’m missing some crazy ones but that’s the big ones I remember

Out of the ones you mentioned turret quetz's and the rates being way slower were ones i was shocked i didnt mention when going through comments, i remember all the other ones besides the angler being useless, but some of these i didnt mention like black boxing afk bodies and carbo changes because it was more PVE focused. The first tlc was before any of the waves. It was the sabertooth when it got a model update. One of the og quetz taming strat for solo was chasing it with an army while holding a scorpion. The scythe was added because of the player to satisfy players who were asking about the theri release. Bugs weren't breedable till gen 1 with the bloodstalker. Similar case I believe with wyvern becoming breedable and had a size change when crystal wyverns were added in crystal isles.
