Not exactly true, mate. Any cupola mounted MG (so not the coax) that is attached to the commander, will cease to be available once the commander is KO. The coax is attached to the gunner position (even if the gunner did not actually control the coax IRL).

I agree that normally the tank would need to be "unbuttoned" (i.e. the hatches open) for the commander or other crewman to utilize the cupula MG. Maybe guyjiggles will eventually add this ability/function to the game, where the crewman pops out of the hatch (either as a physical model or as conceptual thing) to man the gun, and if the crewman takes fire, he can be killed or wounded in the same manner as with the M10, Hellcat, etc.

@@jenegrdesfdce There are differences. Playing Germany 4.3 uptiered is fine. Playing Russia 4.3 uptiered is fine. Playing USA uptiered is never fine. I'll update here in a month or so when I get experience with tigers and panthers. T25 feels okay, but jumbo 76 is just abysmal.

I realize I am new to war thunder, only playing a couple weeks, but I do not know how you go flying all around the map and not get killed. It is amazing. I feel like I am always just going over a hill, dead. Look round a corner, dead. Next to a berm, dead. It's incredibly frustrating, since it seems I am matched with people with tons more hours/experience. I wish War Thunder would match people based on play time. In any case, my question: How do you get to good positions? Memorize the maps? It seems like the game is hide and seek, and whoever hides first wins.

There are plenty of guides on YT and other places to help you. Check out the WT wiki too. Suggestions: notice how Phly is constantly panning the camera? If you are on PC, the default key is "c"...use this liberally. Because of 3rd person camera, you can pan around without exposing yourself, especially before you pop over the top of a ridge or around a building. Wear quality headphones or earbuds. You can sometimes hear enemy vehicles before you see them. Occasionally take a look at the minimap to see if you have friendlies nearby...if not, if you hear a tank, it is not your friend. (sometimes the sound is buggy, though). You will eventually be able to distinguish the various types of tanks out there by the sound of their engines (the vacuum cleaner sound of the T-80/T-90, the whistling sound of the Japanese tanks, the put-put sound of a BMP or PT-76...) Also listen to/heed the callouts of your team mates when you hear "Attention to the map" over the coms; a circle will pop up for a few seconds on the minimap. WT is like anything else in life, you need a decent amount of time (repetition) to figure things out and get proficient at it.

Always remember, American tank destroyers were never made for sniping. the doctrine that spawned US TD’s was that of lite and mobile tanks that stayed behind the line and got brought forward when armor was encountered. Due to the fact the TD’s tended to have the same caliber of gun to that of medium tanks maneuver was the primary means of which the US TD’s would counter act the heavy armor of hostiles.

7:09 why would you ignore enemy AA shooting at and potentially shooting down your air support? That would not have been out of your way to kill him. A Crusader can rip up air targets and is fairly protected from the MGs on most fighters. Full down tier as well.

I think the reason is the stock shell. AP. Its post-pen damage is horrible ( Ammo racks won't even detonate ). Many players myself included didin't bother to spade it just because before APHE it's a pain.

The m36 might be having the same issue as the m10 that brought the BR down. Basically being an open top. Any kind of HE (HE, HEAT, arty, tiny bombs) can just kill this thing easily thanks to overpressure. all it needs is a tiny corner or even hitting the 50 cal. Not to mention the ammo rack in the turret is first stage, so yeah it doesn't take much to ammo wreck this thing with AP either. Thank you Gaijin.

Ah yes the m36 jackson... a superb ambush predator and more so than some of the German tanks namesake's. A cusorsy glance at the tank and the conclusion that is just a big gun is common, Tank destroyers had a designed function in doctrine to ambush and blunt enemy offenses and enemy armored spearheads. Chieftain has a great video on TD doctrine that lays it out. It's worth a listen
