Yet another example of War Thunder not listening to players. Another battlefield engineer event. Basically the IS-7 all over again. Did I miss anything? EDIT: Don't get me wrong, the tank looks cool, but they could have allowed us to obtain it the good old fashion way (via skill and time rather than gambling luck). EDIT 2: I might have misjudged it being under the belief it was exactly be like the battlefield engineer event, but we shall see how it goes.

SAUBER_KH7, i think you got it all. I just want to add that since they added it at 8.3 and APFSDS can easily pen it. Its supposedly supposed to withstand a nuclear blast yet not capable to withhold a bomb blast or float as its supposedly supposed to. If it was made invincible to bombs it would make a vehicle worth grinding because most of the time its rockets, missiles or high pen shells that are gonna kill this thing.

@@dmytro2500 Indeed. The main thing about the Battlefield engineer style event that gets to me is the fact that it is basically like gambling. Your like "Please give me this part. Please give me this part" and then: "No! I already have enough of that said part (Part A). Give me this part (Part B)! I understand some people don't mind that, I'm not trying to call anyone out over that. But at the same time, most of us would prefer the old style of obtaining a rare vehicle via time and skill rather than luck. Or in some cases such as players that have a day job, allow us to buy the vehicle at a decent price. But that's my 2 cents.

@@albeza6454 actually that's incorrect. It wasn't mass-produced because of the doctrine change in tank warfare. MBT's took over due to the technological advances after WWII in how they produce armor, and heavies became obsolete. This tank went through trials with flying colors before it got locked up in a museum. Maus was a failure, Obj. 279 was a wetdream before the doctrine change.

So they no longer have a purpose for such an expensive vehicle, they did away with all heavy tanks including this one after

I've been watching this thing used in squad play. It's easy enough to hurt it, but it's surprisingly hard to kill it in one shot and frequently ends up getting hits to the gun. Pack a baker's dozen of rounds to minimize ammo racking and go hunt. The gun is easy to hit because if it hits YOU, you probably splattered. And if you get 3-4 of them protecting and repairing for each other, it gets unpleasant, fast.

So after two years without playing, and due to the quarantine in my country I decided to play again just on April 1st, remember what is special about WarThunder and also why I left it. (it was in tier IV in the first 5 nations) WarThunder is amazing, a lot of vehicles, incredible scenarios, mechanics and physics. Really it has a sense of satisfaction in everything you do, from "feel" the power of the cannon of a tank, to glide through the air on a plane. Then there is the frustration of the poor valance, the bad teams, the lack of rewards according to the tier, and the infinite griding (which I have noticed that if it has improved a bit), I played until the 2nd of April. Aerial arcade is a little more fun.

Only getting the fuels for the 3 parts you need for the Obj. 279 you need to be in matches for 40 hours (not in the game, in matches and active) and that's if you get 1 fuel and 1 whatever the other one is from every 10mins stayed in matches. I don't even want to try to count how much you will need other materials (iron, coal, fabric and so on) and how long getting them will take. Gaijin has said that it is possible to get 4 final crafting materials from the event without spending a dime, but I guess that is going to be 24/7 job. Oh, and you must also take into account that it will take 12h to craft the final materials (unless you have spent time and been the #1 in the space fights).

I am currently grinding my M551 and constatly meeting this "thing" is a nightmare. M551 is a light tank but 279 for me seems more mobile and agile than Sheridan, climbs like a mountain goat, has stabilizer so it don't have to stop, shooting it with ATGM destroy one module per rocket meanwhile it one shot me due to hull break mechanic. In most cases it's best to scout it and wait for someone else killing it while praying to not be spoted.
