pH is affected by temperature since it is a purely a measurement of H+ ions in solution. As temperature increases, pH readings decrease due to a greater number of H+ ions being liberated with the temperature increase. The actual acidity, however, is not increased, as an equal amount of OH- ions are liberated with the temp increase. As an example, the pH of water will decrease by about 0.2 when raising the temp from 0 Celsius to 10 Celsius. Accurate readings from a pH meter require that either the calibration and measurements occur at specific and identical temperatures or that the meter be capable of making a temperature compensated measurement.

y unit started to malfunction. The ph keep rising even during calibration so I bought a new ph probe thinking that was the problem and the issue still persists. Ph still rising during calibration. I was calibrating using the ph 7 solution and when the ph meter started reading the ph 7 solution, the ph kept on rising way above ph 7. What do I do?

Does the monitor stay on until you turn it off or does it have and auto off feature? Also if you turn it off does it have to be recalibrated before using again? I’m looking to have something constantly monitor my aquarium.

Hello! Thank you for your question. It has a power saving mode. The ph monitor updates reading every second in the first 5 mins. Then, it goes into power saving mode and only update the reading every 10 mins to save power. To refresh the readings anytime, press the backlight. While the backlight is on, then the reading updates every second. You can leave the probes in the tank to constantly monitor your aquarium. The meter is pre-calibrated before sending out. You only need to recalibrate it when the utmost accuracy is required or generally, the factory suggests to calibrate the pH probe every 3 months. Hope this helps. All the best!
