In all honesty I like that they're one pixel. A while back I replaced a particle in the game with the two-pixel fireflies using a resource pack just to see how they looked, and while the ambience was pretty great, a lot of them in one place started to kind of look lopsided (all black to the left, all glowing to the right, and it would follow you as you turn, which was actually super offputting). One pixel is definitely the way it needed to happen, it looks really good imo. Edit: Phoenix I now see that you've done exactly the same thing lmaooo

Well stuff like Sodium makes the game actually multithreaded and able to better use the cpu, and rewriting the rendering system to make it capable of taking advantage of gpu power. When using it, after chunk generation is complete, you might actually be gpu limited. My 4070 Super peaks out around 1,000fps.

I feel like having the fireflies be particles instead of an actual mob is a better choice. They now give a much more natural look and the bush being a block lets builders control where the fireflies spawn. Additionally, imagine how much lag all those fireflies would cause if they all individually had AI!

I’m extremely disappointed that people are still complaining about this, we got what we wanted, so why complain! The fireflies were a bit too big already and it looked weird with the half black half yellow, the single pixel is better and honestly makes more sense as you would never see the black bodies or the fireflies, just their light. And you really have no need to complain, sure it’s not EXACTLY what you asked for, but it’s good enough, you have no need to just nag on and on, or they will stop even trying to listen, all this community does is beg for stuff then complain about the stuff, it’s time for a change, a change in this community for the better.

One pixel is actually really pretty tbh, hopefully tho they make it where we can maybe catch them in little jars and light up places with them but have to let them go after a certain amount of time or something, or keep them in something to live in idk. I'd maybe like that idk. A little jar of light up fireflies next to the bed lol. :)

@HungryWarden I agree! (although I know you’re being sarcastic). Since Minecraft is a sandbox game, there are lots of different kinds of players. The features in these snapshots are very targeted towards those who like the ambiance. To those players, it *does* add a lot to the experience. For you, it might be a mid update or just completely useless, but that’s ok. There will be more updates, with different kinds of content, and at least some of those should have content geared more towards you and similar players. There will be players who think those updates are unnecessary as well. That’s ok, they weren’t meant for them. For me, this update looks like it will be pleasant, but I’m not particularly hyped for it. I’ll definitely be using the firefly bushes in future builds.

3:34 nooooo, fireflies irl don’t glow so much they give off enough light to light up areas lol, and tbh if they wanted to capture the magic of real fireflies they should make the blinking more common and remove the slow fade. i also really wish you could see them from farther away but i get that’s a technical limitation, but i also can’t complain too much because they’ve already captured the magic of irl fireflies better than 99% of other games/media (esp looking at you, hundreds of minecraft mods that make fireflies big like bees/silverfish/spiders) ALSO they way they sorta jolt around sometimes in the air is a really nice touch, makes them feel more like bugs than generic particles. i just love irl fireflies lol

If anything, that makes it easier to use for a lot of various builds for things like ambient magic particles, fire sparks, etc. Sure, one can use command blocks & stuff to do something similar, but there's lots of people who don't know how to work with that complicated stuff, so this would be a great method for everyone. It being neutral makes it more versatile. (And I can see why they went with such a light yellow; it looks brighter than flat yellow. More of an actual sense of glowing light, as opposed to just a bright color.)

Doubt you'll see this but here's a video idea: Create a custom dimension for each level of parkour civilization and stack them to create the full world with immersive portals. Ive been suspecting for a while that evbo used immersive portals for that series to achieve such a setup but I don't know for sure, would make a lot of sense though since for the scenes where the bottom of the upper area looks like dirt when wearing the wrong boots could easily be evbo using command blocks when swapping boots to swap the upper dimstack to a only filled in dirt bottom for the dimension when not wearing the right boots. The alternative is he swaps dimstack to the dirt bottom and back as needed between scene transitions. The other less impressive option is doing it all in one world with a higher world height, which he could possible get away with without lag issues due to most of the chunks being empty beside the parkours bits but that doesn't easily explain how he swaps the bottom of the upper layer so easily, maybe im missing something since im not too knowledgeable on advanced minecraft commands. To summarize: Recreating parkour civilization in it's entirety is fully possible with immersive portals and im honestly suprised no ones tried yet since it would be like a skyblock survival with extra steps and a lot more jumping lol
