Vienna - Billy Joel cover :)

Hello hello hello!! I hope you enjoyed that little cover of one of my all-time favorite songs :) Billy Joel is one of my favorite artists and his music just makes me so happy whenever I listen to it. This song is especially moving because it speaks to me on a personal level -- I always seem to find myself stressed out or anxious when I think about things in the future, and this song has always reminded me to slow down, tune out for a while, and just enjoy the now. (Wow that was the most cliche thing I've ever written ahah)
As I said, I left for college the day after this video was filmed & I thought it only fitting to sing the one song that could give me peace before going through such a huge change in my life. I hope it made your day a little better and I'll see you next time!

Wow. Seven years after you first posted this song I'm finding it. As a data point, last night February 4th 2024, Billy performed Turn the Lights Back On at the Grammys. I'm 68 - a piano player - huge Billy fan - and the raw emotion you showed on this video compelled me to respond. Obviously you must be well out of college now and I hope you're still performing (I'll subscribe to your channel after this comment, but your performance dictates responding), as I get ready to launch a solo performing gig of Billy's material. I saw Billy for the 1st time in 1977 at the Mid-Hudson Civic Center in NY and have seen him dozens of times since. He is the cornerstone influence of my piano work since I was 18. You have a gift and I sincerely hope you currently have the opportunity to move that gift forward. Such a great rendition of Vienna. Best wishes and PEACE to you.

I had a friend who performed this song at an event a year or two ago and this video honestly filled me with memories. It sounds so much like her and the singing voice in this video is incredible. Glad to know I’m not the only one who cries to this one. 😍 It just hits me as soon as the first few notes are played, every time. 😭 I get it. And it’s not even fair to say it makes me sad, it’s just a heavy vibe, but also reassuring, just a wave of pure emotion...❤️🌻...comes out as tears, but I think that’s because my body literally does not know how else to respond. what a wonderfully emotional performance-hope college went well and you continue to play. I attended several of my sons' violin and piano recitals-however at his end of year piano recital, about 12-13 years of age, he was paired with a violin professional from the conservatory - they played I Dreamed a Dream from Les Mis (Ruthie Henshall version) it was the most beautiful thing I ever heard and there I was - this grown man crying non-stop in the audience !!!!!!!!!!!!!! but you know what Washington Irving says about tears ????????

This young woman brought a tear to my eyes because she reminded me of my own favorite songs which I have performed live many times and sing with my old acoustic at home occasionally when I think about my deeply missed brother who died Feb 4th 2004 from pancreatic cancer. It was 35 years ago when I took a bunch of my buddies and my girlfriend up to my cottage, and we were there for three weeks. One late evening a dear lifelong friend and I were walking down the secluded dirt road when we heard a car coming which was odd because the only land/cottage owners along several hundred acres of that stretch along Burnt River all belonged to my family and the nearest cottage was my uncle Hector's cottage and he passed a few years prior. When the car came into view we couldn't make out what kind of car or truck it was because the headlights were blinding us! As the car got beside us the window rolled down and it was my brother!! He brought a bunch of friends up also!! LOL! So, we got in his car and just drove around listening to an Eagles tape, and there's always a spooky feeling at night in that neck of the woods, and you always get the weird feeling as though "there's a killer on the road" thanks Morrison, that haunted me for years! LOL! The dash lights were green and cast a green glow throughout the car when "The Last Resort" came on and, being a pro lead vocalist/writer/rhythm guitar player I sang my ass off and my bro and friend sang awesome harmonies!! It was so freaky where the three of us instinctively knew what parts to sing and not sing and we got through the entire song flawless!! We were stunned but then my buddy broke the silence by crop dusting the car!!! Stinky bastard!! LOL! Everytime I try to play that song, and every time I hear it it just tears my heart apart. I've learned to accept things I can't control and just live till I die! Fantastic job young lady! God Bless you! Jack ~'()'~

It's odd to look at when this was released, it was the same year I went off to college. I've liked Billy Joel a long time but Vienna is sadly a very recent discovery. You seemed to be feeling similarly to how I was when I left for school, and this song seems to fit the bill very well. I have always loved this Billy Joel song and I always thought that it never got the recognition that it deserved. I have not heard a better cover version than this.
