I for one have experienced the effects of both fire departments responding together. Some time ago I could smell natural gas outside on the south side of my home, the typical rotten egg smell was strong. I called the non emergency number to Phoenix Fire, asking that a truck be sent to investigate the gas smell. In about 3 or 4 minutes, not one, but two fire trucks were headed down my street to my house with lights and sirens going. The two trucks were from Phoenix and Glendale, I live two blocks east of 43rd Avenue, north of Northern Avenue. They too were able to smell the gas and called Southwest Gas to respond. They thoroughly checked my home, following the gas lines and determined the house was safe. Southwest Gas determined there must have been a gas grill at one point in the back side yard and that gas had been trapped underground to surface that day. Both of the Fire crews were very professional and reassuring in their actions. I am very comfortable knowing if I need them to respond I could very well have both city departments at my doorstep. I have seen both departments in action, they are Heroes to me, I am blessed to live in an area where both of these departments cover.
