That’s cool that Jonathan grabbing a Clark belt was intentional acting choice. I always thought it was intentional to show how Jonathan would have fighting experience over Clark who just relies on his powers to win fights. Like Jonathan’s character as a protective father farmer who play football back in the day, it would make sense he was in a few brawls back in the day and would be able to beat Clark in a fair fight.

I appreciate how this episode continues the aftermath of Clark's drastic actions in the season 2 finale. Two episodes in Metropolis with Clark on red kryptonite probably would've felt like too much in that setting, but seeing Clark deal with the consequences of making deals with crime-lords in a palpably consequential, intense way is engaging to watch, and the Clark - Jonathan fight was also wonderfully epic, and you can feel the emotion and drama on display due to Jonathan's desperation to get his son back, and Clark's strong desire to pull away from everything he held dear. The Lex aftermath has a nice parallel with the Clark one - They both left their new life in a different setting, and are now dealing with the next events that are being featured in their lives regarding the journey their on.

This episode had everything great drama, action and emotional scenes! The ending scene between Clark & Lana was a great scene. What I loved about it is that I could tell that it wasn't the end of their relationship cause even thought Clark broke up with her, you could tell that they were both in love with each other and that it wasn't the end of their love story. The song "White flag" was perfect for the scene. The fight between Clark and Jonathan was epic so was the scene at the docks with Edge and Lionel. Edge taking the Kent in hostage and forcing Clark to give him his blood was great drama. Loved how Lana and Martha teamed up to beat up the bad guy. The emotional scene between Clark and Lana at the Talon was perfectly acted by Kristin & Tom. Loved Clark and Lex's reunion scene it was wholesome then ended on a dark note with Lex talking about his dark side. "Phoenix" gets 🌹🌹 and half from me, one of my fave episodes from S3!

I have always liked that ending scene between Clark and Lana too, it's one that still remains very memorable. Not only because of the great music choice, but I thought Kristin was amazing with the way she delivered her lines and the complex emotions of that moment. I wish we'd heard more about it from Tom's perspective.

@@jetia7100 I agree. Seemed like Tom wanted to say something about the scene but Michael interrupted him and started talking about music and they moved on after that. @@vbrandy7088 It's a real shame that they don't stop and discuss important scenes in depth, especially when it's a pivotal moment for both characters going forward this season and for the rest of the show. I'd much prefer to have heard what Tom had to say about the scene than a side discussion about Dido. It'd be a good adjustment for them to make going forward.
@vbrandy7088 Жыл бұрын
@@jetia7100 Exactly! I agree. Tom should talk more, sometimes Michael takes over and barely leave room for him to talk. So many scenes haven't been discussed in depth since the beginning of the pod and it's frustrating cause we're missing out. I wish they would ditch the play by play and just give us a quick synopsis then go right into their thoughts and bts stories about the episodes. The whole recap take too much time, don't give us any new info and make them rush their commentaries. Without it they could actually take their time to discuss important scenes in depth.

The scene where Clark and Lex reunite for the first time after their summers of hell is one of my Top moments of the series. There's nothing hidden behind it; they're just happy to see each other. And for Lex, Clark is really the only person he gets that from. I also really loved Lana and Martha fighting back in the barn. And the scene where Clark pulled Morgan Edge out of the car all menacing-like. I didn't see it so much as Clark putting on an act or pretending to be Kal, but more of an "Oh, all that is IN Clark. It's there, and over his lifetime he'll control it, but right now his family is threatened, his secret is at risk of being exposed, and he just gets mad about it." It gives him depth and is part of what makes Superman special. Not that any of that is a new thought, particularly in 2023 when The Boys and Brightburn and Man of Steel exist, but 20 years ago? IDK, it hit different. Loved the fight between Jonathan and Clark - and I noticed the belt hold! It felt really authentic considering Jonathan doesn't years of getting accustomed to super speed and strength. And yet, despite all that, every time this episode ends my first thought is always still "The Kansas docks...wtf, lol."
@jerodast Жыл бұрын
I tend to roll my eyes at the whole Lex/Clark friendship sometimes because of the age difference (and also things like Clark just strolling into the mansion with no notice at any hour haha), but that scene with the two of them reuniting was so pure just like you said, I love it. Also great analysis of what's below the surface with Clark. Look, if all the actual cities/names can be different in the DCU, then why can't the literal geography/hydrology also be different :P

It's funny hearing the difference between actor perspective and viewer perspective on how "abrupt" Helen's exit was haha. "She had 9 episodes, that wasn't too abrupt!" Well yeah, if they just like, dated off and on, even a 1 episode appearance wouldn't have been abrupt Michael. But your characters got MARRIED and she did a complete face-heel turn including multiple plane crashes and deals with crime kingpins in those episodes! Really, that all happened in about THREE episodes! Of course it was abrupt you goofus 😂😂 Actually one of the more unnatural "eh we've run out of things to write for this character" exits I can recall from the show to be honest.
@jerodast Жыл бұрын
...but anyway I agree, their relationship was possibly the most real-feeling one in the whole series aside from Jonathan and Martha, UNTIL the season finale & premiere wrenched it all up, so I always appreciated how grounded and good Helen was as a character, huge props to EV.
@nickhydier1201 Жыл бұрын
@@jerodast Yes, I agree. Very good points. She was introduced slowly over season 2, first meeting Lex in angermanagement, they had several scenes at SVMC. Even dealing with her ex. Then getting engaged, moving in. The wedding, her conspiring with Lionel to crash their plane, stranding Lex. Working with Morgan and finally attempting to kill him. All that certainly wasn't abrupt. I guess actors see things differently since they are working on the scenes/episodes.
@nickhydier1201 Жыл бұрын
@@jerodast Also writers do tend to simply run out of ideas for characters, so they have no choice but to end them or exit them from the show in unnatural, unexplained ways. Can be frustrating for us as viewers because we want answers. But sometimes all you can do is go with it. Again, I would have loved to see more of her. 29:44 - INVISIBILITY is the WRONG choice for a superpower. WHY? Because at precisely the moment of becoming invisible you'd also become blind, as light would no longer have retinas to strike. Ergo, without retinas, no light, and without light there cannot be sight. Think about. Stand in a pitch black room. Even with your eyes wide open, you still won't be able to see anything. This season is fantastic. I think it is the moment that television shows changed forever. Before SMALLVILLE season 3, television was episodic. He'll season one and two were episodic, meaning that the episodes were each self-contained, and the threat was resolved before the credits. Season 3 began the tradition of ending episodes without everything being resolved. That is to say the episodes end with a looming threat that will have to be dealt with at some point in a future episode. Furthermore, they continue without having the pre requisite "To be continued" and the shows stakes get higher from episode to episode.

Another great episode. Talking about Dido's songs and since Michael wore a t-shirt referred to Roswell New Mexico, here's another curiosity: she made the theme song "Here with Me" for the tv series Roswell in the 1999. Damn, it seems like yesterday, but it's been 24 years ago

🤣🤣. Y’all are the best. Glad that the mystery of who really was responsible for the chili prank got resolved. Thanks for being the best part of my day. TGFTVW ❤🙏.

Back in the day, I remember watching "The New Adventures of Superman" with Dean Cane, I did not know that Smallville was a thing. One afternoon I accidentally channel hopped and it landed on Smallville and oh boy did I love it. For a few episodes I was back and fourth between Adventures and Smallville but then I was fully committed to Smallville and got the DvD box sets of Season 1,2,3 so I was up to date with the releases. Loving these Podcasts guys

At 1:29 when Tom said "I know who it's not" I'm pretty sure he was talking about Allison 💀🤣

I wonder if she listen to the podcast. Even in prison. It would actually be kind of awkward if it got out that she does, it would make Michael and Tom conscious about it. I mean they praise her acting and everything, but it would still be weird to be reminded, every time, that "Oh, damn! She's actually hearing all this."
@seanporteous7596 Жыл бұрын
@MattHunX If I'm not mistaken, I think she's fresh out of prison. So she's got some catching up to do if she didn't. But it's still nice to hear Michael and Tom praise her acting every once in a while

Podcasts and conventions aren't affected. The actors/writers just can't work or promote current projects.

Love this podcast and y’all. To me the person who was the most excited to see Lex was Clark. I was surprised to see that Morgan and Lionel were friends. I thought that the fight scene between Jonathan and Clark was epic. Chole had a lot of great lines. To me we need a Flannel King shirt. Clark was definitely on his apology tour. Kind of creepy that Lionel had cameras on his plane. Lex working with Lionel is definitely going to lead Lex to the dark side. Why did Helen do it? I thought the fact that Lex bought the farm because of the compass was powerful. Poor Lana gets broken up with her. Schneider wisdom.

A Flannel King shirt would be awesome!

Haha great compact bullet points :) Flannel King is a good line isn't it... I would say Morgan and Lionel are definitely _frenemies._

I think we need another shirt with Tom's face and the caption: "I don't remember it." Lol

Awesome! Season 3 is my absolute favorite, especially with Lex’s breakdown and the storyline with his father was gold while Clark kept trying to help his friend and get in trouble for it. Anyhow, this first episode of the season did a really great job at setting the vibe, this is when the Superman foundations had already been laid and when everything is about to get darker. Awesome to have Emmanuelle Vaugier too! She was really great in this episode as her character’s secret was out. Keep up the great content!
